is it me or does everyone else think having the boys go hammer and tongs against port in the country is a stupid idea? Was bad enough when they met in the Wizard cup.

Well i will never understand the AFL sometimes!

I think its great for country folks. In fact i think I might go for a drive in the country myself next saturday. Probably no real benefit to the club but country people would love it. Lets not forget they are starved of footy and this is a good opportunity for them to enjoy themselves and watch their favourite sides go head to head on a local oval.

As long as the ground is up to standards I have no problem with it.

I agree about the country ppl - but i am sure they would have been happy to see the crows or powders play a decent interstate team as well.

I think you are forgeting that playing an interstate club in country SA would be a major disadvantage for that interstate club. If say Femantle was to play Crows at Kadina it would put Freo in a disadvantaged situation because they get of the plane in adelaide and get on the bus for a 2 hour drive to Kadina.

This way both teams have same distane to travel and it is basically a home game for both of them.

So you don't have a problem with playing in the country but you have a problem playing Port. Why??????

Well the games against port are really a special game for the fans - well thats how i feel anyway, so really should be for the real thing ONLY.

IMO

I don't think it makes any difference. Port is just like any other AFL side.

i find that an odd statement - so in your view the crows playing the paps is the same to the fans as the crows playing the demons???? Its all about passion. I know the lead up to the showdowns for me are not a normal game. Maybe that makes me a proud fan eh?

Not exactly but personally I think we have a better rivarly with Kangaroos than we do with Port. Over the years Crows and Roos have been involved in some ripper games. Maybe I am in the minority. I know games with Port are bigger than your average game but there is no need to be precious about it. So by your reckoning we also shouldn't play St. Kilda and Roos in pre-season games because we played special games against them in the premiership years.

Is that because Port has had a dominance over the Crows over the past 4 years?

Port and Crows will always be each others biggest rivals until the world blows up. Thats just the way it goes in a two team town, especially with the history of each club and how it got started etc.

Even tho Port havent lost one for a few years, they are still ripper games. The last 4 Showdowns have been pretty close to the 4 best in my view. Especially the two early season games in the last two years....awesome games of football.

I do agree with you tho that this will be great for the country folk to go and see a Showdown when normally they would rarely have a chance to. Just as long as there is no all in brawl and half our team get reported then ill be happy!

You are probably right. I agree they have been ripper games lately, I just wish we win one. But I would also say that our rivarly with Roos over the years has also produced some ripper games. I think with Roos there is a feeling of that mutual respect (Apart from Carey Vs Stevens/Archer game last year) where as with Port it is more of a hate-hate relationship.

I think thats the bottom line. I think country folks have been starved of footy and as you say they probably have no chance of getting to a real showdown. This is a 2nd best thing for them and it should be a good day out.

That's exactly what I was thinking - but in respect of our players of course!! ;)

Can these 2 teams play each other without taking it far too seriously??? I doubt it!!

Even though we struggle to win the Showdown's they're the pinnacle of the home and away season. Always produce top hard footy too!!

We've played Brisbane more often than Adelaide now, so you're not our major rival either :o :D

Stiffy, Port are our major rival - unfortunately we just have a crap record against them! Really not sure how seriously either team would take a nothing game - not the be & end all like a real game. ie. I wouldn't be losing any sleep if we lost, as opposed to if we lose the next showdown I will be majorly ****ed off!

Ok now that gives me more incentive to go:D

If the weather is nice I think it will be a good drive to country SA to watch a bit of footy. I am also strongly considering it:)

I will be playing cricket but wouldn't have gone that far anyway

I went to the one in Victor Harbour which we won which was actually a very good day.

Hopefully there is not too much intensity with two weeks before the season. I doubt there will be.

No I agree Stiffy with have a great rivalry with the Kangaroo's and I think it steems from the 1998 GF but having Carey has just intensified the competitiveness between the two clubs, bring on Rnd 1 it will be a ripper;) :D

Port will always be our greatest rival though, simply because of state pride and bragging rights, which unfourtunately we dont have at the moment, expect when it comes to finals performance;) Finals and Port arent a combination at all;) :D

I will never be a complete happy chappy until we have at least squared the ledger with Port in regards to Showdowns & anyone who thinks they are not our biggest H&A rival in the AFL are not being very honest with themselves.

& well done to Kadina & the York peninsular for putting on the next mini-showdown & hope you all have a great day.

It's only 120 or 130 k's - you'll be there in an hour and a tad. Actually there are several good bakeries around Kadina and Moonta and Wallaroo - I used to live in Maitland just 30 k's down the road.

Then again 130 k's is a long way to go to watch your team get it's @rse kicked :D

Its more like 160 or 170

Its close to a two hour drive

A long way to go to see any team play in a meaningless friendly.
