I think that Murphy will end up the better player. But Swan is clearly ahead now. The man is a star.

LOL this is going to be a one-sided poll methinks ...

Murphy by a street, Dane Swan is an overrated big girls blouse ...

I notice it's all Carlton supporters voting Murphy. Funny that. Not sure how he could be considered ahead at this stage? On potential, definitely. But not on performance.

What does Swan do better than Murph?

He's better when he swings forward, much better over his head. They accumulate pretty much the same number of disposals despite Swan getting the number 1 tag, compared to Murphy being behind Judd (and possibly Stevens at times). They both butcher the ball at times, but both can look great with disposal at times, so their disposal is on par. Both seem to have underrated pace, not sure who has the edge there. Both are good in contested situations, I'd argue that Swan is better at the clearances, though it's debatable. Not only this, but Swan averages 75% time on ground, against Murphy's 86%.

So in summary: Swan gets the number 1 tag, Murphy does not. Murphy is on the ground 11% match time more. Yet they average an identical number of disposals, Murphy has a very slight advantage in efficiency (but I'd call them on par), Swan kicks more goals, is better over his head, lays more tackles. Murphy has more inside 50s though. What exactly does Murphy do better than Swan?

Single-handedly win games for his FC and wn B&Fs, does Smurf do that?

Um yes, i tape alot of carlton games so i can lend you round 11 vs port, the second collingwood game, mabey even our game against the bulldogs if you would like.

and as for bnf's he lost to the man considered one of the players of the decade whilst beating someone who kicked 99 goals.

First paragraph... NAAHHHHHHH. Murphy has yet to single-handedly win AFL games on his own, lets not kid ourselves. Dane Swan has single-handedly lifted the Magpies and won games off his own boot, not a bad feat for a midfielder, ay?

As for your last paragraph, I wasn't asking for reasons why he HASN'T won any, I was asking if he HAS. Dane Swan has won a B&F, and it was a B&F for a top 8 side. Also, check how many Brownlow votes he has had in recent years, that'll tell you how well he is rated as a footballer.

Dane Swan is an established elite mid in the competition, and Murphy is an up-and-coming on-baller with some improvement left in him. At this stage it's pretty stupid to have a poll on it as Swan is clearly better, but in a few years a rethink may be in order.

Pretty interesting you raise that....IMO Swan as at the end of 2008 was a better player. No doubt he has a greater impact when swinging forward, something Murphy is working on at the moment.

However it's interesting to note that Murphy led Carlton's midfield in 2007 (his 2nd afl season, after coming off a shoulder injury in 2006) so copping the number 1 tag he beats Swan in disposals ( in his 2nd year) by 4.75 disposals a game, as well as contributing more on the scoreboard.
