It's a win-win! She comes with good footy experience and energy and the players seem excited to have her as a coach.....and it means we no longer have to endure that screechy chainsaw voice as commentator - all due respect of course!
I really like her commentary, knows her stuff.

I don't mind her voice certainly better than the screaming James Brayshaw or the piercing Kelli Underwood.

All are better than Basil.

The 180 that this program has done since (because?) of her arrival is unbelievable.

As a coach she seems to be an absolute gem of a pickup.
Obviously knows her stuff and the players have lifted in both approach and play. Looks like she has a truly great relationship with the playing group.

The last time we played GC was the 2023 season before Daisy was coach. They touched us up to the tune of 73pts and almost put 100 on the board themselves.

I know the AFLW teams evolve quickly but that alone is a huge turnaround to now contain them to 20 and go near on doubling their score. We had two goals touched on/after the line called points as well.

Official announcement this morning apparently.

Deserves it own thread. Hugely respected name in football. Should hopefully add some much needed credibility to our women's program
Nailed it
and having someone like this in the building should help uplift the whole organisation
Ah well

More good news after the first win.

As soon as I saw the words 'Lucia Painter is the Round 1 Rising Star nominee' the words that jumped into my head were...
'and so she 'effin should've been.'

That was eye-catching. That 3rd quarter was established star, dominant, mouth-watering stuff.

This club has done a hell of a lot wrong in the past five years but huge credit to them for bringing in Daisy Pearce, which has completely turned around the direction of the women's team. When you watch them play now it's like night and day from the Prior-coached team - there's an actual system in place, the players obviously are happier and fully buying in, and the fitness is much higher. I give the club a lot of credit because they made Pearce by far the highest paid coach in AFLW and let's be honest, they aren't making that money back if the women's team becomes successful. The league is just not a money-maker, at least right now. So it's great that they cared enough to make such a big commitment. The fact that they drafted so well in 2024, including finding a Victoria player (Dalgleish) with one of the last picks in the draft, tells me that they are also dedicating serious resources to scouting.

Another thing is that the timing of signing Pearce as coach could not have been better with AFLW moving to a fully national draft. It would have been a lot harder to use their first two picks in 2023 on non-WA players, and then all four picks this year on non-WA girls, without Pearce. If they were just plodding along as a one or two win club with some generic crappy coach like Prior the go-home factor for non-WA girls would have been really strong. But now all of the girls seem super energised and happy to sign on for longer.

The club certainly treated the Women's team like the redheaded step child for years before Daisy got there. The amount of improvement I've seen from that side in the two year span has been remarkable.

Regarding getting the Interstate kids over because she's here now, you're probably right, though Rentsch ok'd on having to go interstate if needed, her sister and her Aunties family live here so it wouldn't have been too daunting for her, Painter carries herself like one of the most mature 19 year olds I ever heard or seen and wanted to come here pre-draft and got her wish.

Jess Hosking came here as a last chance to revive her career and I'm sure it boosted further knowing that Daisy was here (we see how that unfortunately turned out) and Liz McGrath said on the clubs celebration of Daisy going into the HoF that she wouldn't have even considered coming here if Daisy didn't ask. I hope Daisy can work her magic with a couple more mature players over the next couple years cos the list is still so very young.

Yeah, I think especially if they are able to make finals this year some of the veteran players who are out of contract might see WCE as a club on the way up and decide to make the move across. I suppose there is the question of how long Pearce will be here though. Her contract is up at the end of next season and while I'm sure they'll be offering her an extension, her kids would have just started full time schooling and as far as I know, she and her partner don't have any family support over here which can be tough. She's also 37 and I don't know if they want more kids but if so, they'll have to get a wiggle on. It will be disappointing if she moves back to Melbourne (I've no doubt there will be plenty of head coaching offers if she does want to move back) but at the very least she will have left the women's side in a much better position in terms of talent and culture than the dumpster fire that she inherited.
