He looks injured. It is weird how Buckley uses him forward though, if he's injured then its understandable but I think he did it in the final against Port too.

Think of it this way:

Dane Swan was born in 1984, and the development cycle of a footballer usually goes as follows (using Swan's age as an example):

2003-2008 (19-24 years of age) - Development (Swan actually had an extra year of development, being drafted as a "bottom ager" in 2001)
2009-2013 (25-29 years of age) - In their prime (Swan averaged 31.86 disposals, 1.01 goals and 0.81 goal assists per game over this period, and amassed 121 Brownlow votes as well)
2014-2017 (30-33 years of age) - Past their prime (Swan is contracted until the end of 2016, so pending fitness and form, may retire then)

While he's not spending as much time in the midfield as before (which does affect his numbers and overall output), Swan is simply in decline, commensurate to his age. We saw it with Chris Judd (who is one year older than Swan) last year, and we've seen it with countless others over time as well. Obviously it's not a hard and fast rule - some players peak earlier, some extend their prime later, and so on - but generally, the above is how you can expect the majority of players to develop, peak and decline.

He's not injured. He's always paid his opponent no respect, and he's always had poor footskills. As overrated as they come.

Roaming around aimlessly gathering cheap disposals is no longer an option in todays game and he's been left wanting.

No denying been a wonderful player for Collingwood over the years but he seems the shadow of the player he was only a year ago.

Is he injured or age catching up with him?

His preseason wasn't ideal, and he'll need time to build his endurance... arguably the most important part of his game

Last year, he went through patches where he looked bored/disinterested/injured, but then exploded back to form without warning. He isn't a kid any more, but we'll still get good service out of him once he has put some time into his legs

You're an idiot.

I think that's more than adequate contribution to this thread on my behalf.

Lots of rumours floating around of him nursing a niggling groin injury. If there is any truth to that claim it would explain why he's spent so much time in the forward line. The club has said he isn't playing injured but you never know...

It usually Takes Dane 4-5 weeks before he begins to fire up and perform, he's always been a slow starter.

He grabbed at it in Round 1, but has looked pretty free in bursts. You'd think he have struggled to find that zip in his chase down tackle last night if he was restricted

I agree, I don't think he is injured. I just think he's starting the year off slowly as he usually does. I'd expect him back into heavy midfield rotations by round 5-6.

When did it stop becoming an option? This year?

Because he seemed to go alright for the last 5 years or so...

What garbage. Swan in his prime was one of the most damaging players in the comp and has a brownlow to show for it - and many think he should have another one.

He's just underdone at the moment, in a few weeks he'll be fine.

Isnt Swanny traditionally a slow starter to the season? Strikes me as the type of bloke who probably doesnt mind enjoying himself over the off-season so wouldnt surprise if he is maybe a month behind most. If he is putting out these performances after round 6 i would be concerned.

Didnt look to spend much time in the midfield last night either.

Clearly injured in round 1 ("right in front of me!") and hasn't moved properly since. He shouldn't be resting in the forward line, he should be resting full stop until he's right.

He's always been the same. Poor disposal, no respect for his opponent, hence why he isn't tagged.

Clearly not playing for the coach. Looks disinterested.
You do realise Bucks has been coaching since 2012?

He probably should have been tagged seeing how he has destroyed teams for the past 5 years.

And his disposal actually isn't that bad, just blown out of proportion by the stupid disposal efficiency stat, which doesn't take into account kicks that hit the deck.

You mean by constantly turning the ball over by kicking to the opposition then getting credited with votes based of stats.

It isn't when you include 1..2 handballs or short 20 meter kicks. Anything over 20 meters is generally turned over. Even the most one eyed of Pies supporters would realise this, although they can't seem to admit it.

Gut runner....it ends there though.
