Once Danger announced he was going to Vic we were always going to be stuffed. People asking for pick 9, their first next year, and Motlop are dreaming. We have very little room to move in this and are relying on Geelong's goodwill to get us something of equal value. Equal value, as Dwayne Russell says is pick 1,2, and 3 for someone of Danger's quality.

Matching an RFA offer is designed to tell the player "we want you to stay" with the hope that they might if a deal to their preferred club doesn't get over the line. Danger wants to go, it's now up to us to get something of value for him. Pick 9 and Murdoch is better than a compo pick. If we can somehow jag their first in 2016 then that's a win for us under the circumstances. This (next year's first), IMO will be what will hold this trade up.

Paul Marsh (AFLPA CEO) was on 5AA tonight. Some interesting comments made.

AFLPA expect Danger to get to Geelong, but support Adelaide matching any contract and then forcing a trade. Now, this blew me away because all I've heard lately is that it's not in the spirit of the rule, waa waa waa, yet here is the players union CEO openly supporting the rule as intended.

They also support compo. He didn't think it's perfect but thinks some form of compensation should be maintained.

Without compo, there's no risk in matching. If we'd finished last we would have just accepted puck 2. But with no compo, we'd match and this shit fight would become the norm.

Come on Crows, Nothing less than at least x 2 first rounders (how ever they come) .....

At least you can on trade the picks for someone like redden, bennel, aish, menzal etc ....and 1 I like Is Jed Anderson who cant get a game at the hawks.

The club also needs to get these picks and target GWS players or other academy based clubs as they need these picks to obtain their academy gems creating even less opportunity for their former top 10 picks.

At the end of the day heck Geelong, heck Danger and stop being a feeder club ... and make a statement.

I disagree with most of this ... but the idea we would make out like bandits once PD leaves is crazy. Improve on pick 14 and it was worth matching.

I believe that Paddy loves Moggs Creek more than Mardi and his parents combined. He wants to lives there more than anything and there's no way he plans on commuting four hours a day to go to training. Geelong is 50 minutes from Moggs, so that's where his playing days from here on in will be at. Anything else he says, like anyone who I don't know from a bar of soap, is taken with a grain of salt.
If he loves it that much hes not going to risk the draft and miss out is he?

So Adelaide have a great hand and Danger will tell Geelong to get it done.

He's engaged to an Adelaide girl.

That aside, what is he like as a player? Seem to recall some early comments from cats fans saying take him, as if he was no good.
Horlin-Smith, you mean? GHS is slow in terms of leg speed and isn't the biggest-bodied mid going around. He's a smart footballer and is generally clean by hand and foot. He doesn't get as many possessions as you'd like for an inside mid, but I guess he still has time if you consider Matt Priddis didn't come on until his mid-20s.

Personally I think GHS's most suited position is as a medium-forward staying close to home. He's played forward pocket previously and has done very well. He can kick a clutch goal as good as anyone. He's no world beater, but IMO he's no spud, either.

In other words he doesn't fit a AFC need

Anyone else find Smithtastic33 reminds them of a certain recently-departed poster?

Not really, but i will admit this Smithtastic33 guy is on fire.

GHS. No thanks.

Two first round picks + a player

OR

A first round, a second round + a good player, if you have any

OR

This year's first round, next year's first round, a good player and you take one of our plethora of inside mids or David Mackay.

It's hard to find a player on your list that suits us. I'd be taking Bews, Blicavs, Gregson, Kolodjashnij, Murdoch or Thurlow.

If we are going to spend cap space convincing a player to come here as part of any trade (likely have to pay overs) I would want to know the upgrade in quality is worth it over the player they would replace in the 22. Sure someone might be better than somebody in our 22 but is it 5%, 15% or 30% better. We need to go after the right players for the most impact, not replace average with just above average.

Next years first interests me more as it could be anything.

So he's Lyon?

Except we'd have to pay for him
