I think GWS mainly just wanted to stay in this draft

Eagles might have asked for F1 + 23 for 7 + 16 (or whatever the picks ended up as), which takes the Giants out of taking their guys completely

Agreed GWS likely wanted to stay in this years draft. But if their F1 was genuinely on the table you would think they would have found a third party to broker the deal.

How good have the last couple of days been. First the world cup and now this bloke. It doesn't get any better.
We can rest now: sudden stop to everything. We can all forget about watching the second night of the draft. Maybe come back for the AFLW match. Having cricket every night for 6 weeks has spoilt us.

The whole GWS move just has me shaking my head. All they got was a light upgrade on 17 and a future second.

They then pick a bolter with their first and follow it with moving up 1 pick and give up a future second.

Bizarre, wonder if they were drug tested.
It looks that way, but Twomey pointed out, in justifying his Phantom, that GWS scored exactly the two picks they wanted, just in the opposite order! They were very well separated, but they managed it. So, from that point of view, they lost nothing and got a second next year. Pretty marginal for them, though.

What photos were we holding? :)

Reckon the only reason he looked 'sad' was probably because he was expecting to go to WCE, North or Hawks, so Adelaide was probably a bit left-field.

Reckon Adelaide's probably the best club he could've ended up in regards to his development, tbh. Probably have a similar trajectory to your captain, so would be perfect for him to learn off.

If we wants to develop like our captain he should get drafted to Sydney

They used that second to get up for Leake

But they gave up a future second when they moved up that one pick. They actually achieved nothing.

I think the AFL said "NO!" to the Eagles deal 🤷

we have many elite youngsters already on our list. i just wonder if we now have the MOST elite youngster of all joining the tri-colours last night. so glad about the 3 year contract starting this year and with a team primed for sustained success and buckletloads of cash to re-contract him, unless he is a Mummys boy hopefully he becomes a long termer

I do think he was half expecting Weagles to get him. His face was somewhat Mc Asey like..

Interesting having a flick through the WC draft threads earlier.

Most of the posters there seem to think that Collard (Saints) is the flight risk.

I have not watching him at all and relying on highlighted package. Looking at the highlights the crows posted, I didn't think it was that impressive. A bunch of uncontested marks, decent skills when he has space but clearly a physical specimen.

Other highlights packages are much more informative including the one below:

Much more impressed after watching this as shows great movement in close, cleaners and acceleration. Along with his skills and strength this gives me some confidence be could maybe play midfield.

funny how they also suddenly predict Curtin to project like Brander. They have Mcasey-deep scars from that bloke.

Crows got a bargain here. He will be the best player of the draft. Just a matter of you guys keeping him. He and his family looked as flat as a tack when his name was called
His brother maybe, his parents looked very happy.

I'm guessing they jumped at Gothard at 12 because they knew a couple of others would have taken him at 16-18 before the next pick we traded them rolled in.

Then just traded an excess F2 for the bloke they wanted to get originally at 8 when they held that.

I think GWS played it very well, as I think we did too. I wouldn't say either of us should be upset.

Didn't notice those types of comments on their board re Brander. That seems to have come from somewhere else.

I got the impression they're a little disappointed, but on the whole glad they didn't burn their F1 to land him. And a few hopeful that they can lure him home at some stage.

Quite a bit anger at the gifts North were given, and the absurdity of the concessions allowed to the northern academies in comparison to everyone else

Simply a huge win by the club after a pretty weak trade period, love it.
was it a weak trade period in hindsight? Getting Suns 14 in a trade was integral in getting this deal done as allowed GWS to get both of their desired players at our respective picks (10/14 initially). Without this trade with Suns, we dont have Curtin.

Agree we all wish we got a star FA or inbound trade but again a quality inbound trade would have very likely cost us Curtin

There’s a reason why he was talked about as a potential pick one when there was worry about Reid going home. Honestly think he’s the best talent in this draft after Reid and Walter.
I think 4th or 5th best talent

Mckercher is ahead
