Yep. The kid is starting to realise that not only does he belong but he has the ability to be better than most others on the field.
Yeah that's the most noticeable. It was almost like a switch a few weeks ago. Gone are the timid moments where he looked lost, replaced by moments where he is virtually daring opponents to try and go with him.

No, that’s Hamish, not Curtin, surprised you didn’t know that
Good read EC

Bit moreto recruiting draftees than what meets the eye.

Joined by Curtin’s parents, his manager TLA’s Jason Dover and Adelaide’s CEO Tim Silvers, they dissected what had been a whirlwind 24 hours and outlined what the next week, month and year would look like.

The only one missing from the meeting was the man who had watched more of Curtin playing than any of them – Ogilvie, who spent time with Curtin and his family the night before, but had hit the road first thing Tuesday morning to drive to Bendigo to greet Adelaide’s second selection in the draft Charlie Edwards.

To have Curtin in Crows colours was the culmination of years of scouting, and three days of talks with rival clubs including the key piece of the puzzle – GWS.

So many of Adelaide’s recruiting and coaching staff had had a touchpoint with Curtin over the journey. In addition to Ogilvie, Reid and Edwards, others like Richard Taylor, Phil Harper, on the ground team Fraser McInnes and Jimmy Parsons had been watching him play, Katrina Gill had spoken to his school, Senior Coach Matthew Nicks and Senior Assistant Coach Scott Burns had reviewed footage, while data scientist Dean Dagan had all analytics in order.

His football attributes were obvious, but they also knew he was into basketball, kite surfing and learnt some jiu jitsu, that he’d grown 10cm between Year 10-11, and had started university in 2023.

No doubt they put a lot of work in, that’s what makes it puzzling when they get it so wrong. Thankfully he’s recent years have been better than that awful patch when he blew numerous first rounders

I guess it shows you that its not an exact science.

Most if not all clubs would be doing the amount of work we do, yet you just dont know how each player reacts when they get to the big league.

I think it would take an injury to Ashcroft for him not to win it from here. Has been solid all year where Curtin started off slowly but has been improving each week. Curtin should definitely be top 3 though.
Harvey Langford is in front of Ashcroft, as Champion data suggests Langford is the only 1st year player rated in the top 100 players in the comp (Curtin is the only other one rising star eligible player rated top 100 but obviously in his 2nd year)

That's an indication that Nank is not fine. If he's as good as you're indicating, he would be ahead of Laird/Smith seeing he's now in his 3rd year on the list.
It sounds like you’re basing Nank’s strife on form/talent, which is irrelevant to Curtin’s arrival.
Remember, we don't play senior players for experience, we play them because they're seen as the best we have, and a seriously talented kid goes past them quickly.

Really at this point, Nank is in a serious amount of strife, list wise, as is anyone who is 3+ years in and do not hold a best 22 slot.
I think this is a big assumption to make. I’m not convinced the (very meh) performances of Smith and Murphy on the weekend definitively tell us we aren’t biased to experience. Curtin is a seriously talented kid, and it took him weeks to upgrade from seventh fiddle in the forward line to displacing the experienced Sholl. Sid Draper is a seriously talented kid but we’re preferring Murphy in an almost like-for-like role. Everything about Charlie Edwards’ SANFL form suggests we should at least find out if he’s a serious talent and we prefer Smith.

If they were really justifying their spot in the side, different story. But they’re the 22nd and 23rd players picked in our squad. Viewing their inclusions as the fault of our young talent rather than a continuation of selection biased to experience that was present last year is a dangerous precedent.

Clarko will be especially pissed, he really wanted Curtin but the recruiters went with their strategy and talent order.
It could have been Curtin for north, but instead it might be curtains if they keep going the way they are.

Also appears to be having a good time out there. I enjoyed seeing how stoked he was when he kicked that goal on the siren.

Just an interesting thought, how many young guys sign a contract extension, then comes out the following week and play their best game, get 10 coaches votes and potentially win 3 Brownlow votes?
That would have to be an extremely rare occurrence, surely?!
