how nastier did you want to be? didnt collingwood got back a brownlow medalist who was a big part in their flag??
I mean we didn't go to extreme lenthsl, we did the deal.

Hawthorn had made it clear to Mitchell his time was up, he said so in an interview, so he was steak knives really.

In retrospect a very good deal. But in no way nasty.

We all take our teams sides and want the deal thats suits our side but the list managers that do the deals know what it would cost before they commit to the player and put an offer to him and are prepared to satisfy the players current team.

This is usually the situation unless your team is geelong then you need to adjust your thinking and accept that if the cats are into your player you are getting 50% less in a trade.
Lucky for Pies supporters its the eagles and not geelong as it would be a future 2nd

Feel free to share some of this logic in the Harley Reid thread.

Barrass filled an area of need for a contender. Teams outside the top 8 could've trumped their offer but didn't.

Cameron fills an area of need for a team that will be lucky to break out of the bottom 6 next year, and he's about to turn 30.

Freo aren't going to be interested in another ruckman, so it's WC or bust of he wants to return to Perth. If a contending side with a need for a ruck wants to enter the race that's great, but why not just stay at the Pies in that case? Won't get a better situation football wise than the team he is already a part of that is on top of the ladder.

If I am the list manager I am not putting Hawthorn's first or any other first on the table let alone plus more. It scares me that we are even linked to him at this juncture given our willingness to do stupid trades. The only players on our list Cameron's age or older are Cripps, McGovern, Yeo, Kelly, Sheed and Hunt. Sheed will sadly retire or be delisted and there are question marks over Hunt (I think he's an OK role player). Just does not fit the timeline. If he was 26/27 and you're talking about 3-4 years then seeing what hte 30s bring sure, but he's 31 next year.
That your team is crap doesn’t mean you trade in players more cheaply than contending teams. Bizarre logic.

We did all tell them it would cost a 1st rounder but they all thought F2 was more his value
didnt listen.

Cameron will be worth more than Barrass and the Hawks 1st rounder at a bare min
Hawks first will push out to 20+ this year in a weak draft and likely be eaten by a McGuane bid anyway.

To trade out our sole ruckman in the top handful of rucks in the comp effectively for points is terrible business for the Pies.

Given he’s contracted, only way I see us letting it happen is if it somehow opens the door to a Rowell or Reid acquisition.

Pointless while in the window otherwise. Would just be shooting ourselves in the foot for no net gain.

Agreed its crazy that the eagles supporters believe they can get this done on the cheap cheap

Yeah effectively closing our flag window for ‘points’ we don’t particularly need and some spud vfl player would be terrible business for the Pies.

it’s wishful thinking.

Maybe they should aim for Soldo

Mini , Graham , Baker ,McCarthy , Clarke and with Soldo
they would have our assistant coach 3 x premiership players and our VFL player

Cameron is not a better player than Barrass nor is he worth more. He is however more of a need for the pies than Barrass was for the eagles.
Way better and effective than Barrass. Also plays a position that assists a midfield as well as defenders.

Importantly, he has leadership, which the Eagles don’t have.

Was 2nd in our B&F last season and tracking again to be in the top 5.

Eagles would be over the moon if they were able to get him.

And he would be great for them.

I hope the eagles draft CDT , forget about Cameron, if a cheaper option thats better than our current ruck stocks turns up then sure grab them.
Otherwise let BWilliams and the others be cannon fodder for a couple more years

Its almost like they are entitled to help from other clubs

**** you guys are dumb.

You can argue Cameron is with pick 10, two pick 10s, 3 first rounders - whatever. The fact remains that WC should not pay that for a 30 year old ruckman.

And you yes you are calling us dumb :D :D :D
Its not US thats talking to and trying to get Cameron to come to the eagles - Thats on your club

We are just telling you that you WILL pay through the nose if you do get him

That your club is targeting a player you think they shouldn’t does not mean you get a discount on said player for some reason. Fairly simple.

For the 100th time I am not arguing for a discount.

Every club enquires about dozens of players every year.
But when you enquire about a contracted player especially a player that is vital to his sides premiership hopes with no backup you are prepared to pay the asking price and that will be extremely high in Camerons and Collingwood's case
You dont go looking at cars that are worth $50k when you only want to spend $10k
but our of curiosity what are you expecting to pay in the trade for cameron if it happens
