Did he fire off a few rounds over the Bolte Bridge? Was he in the back of a car when shots were fired at the cops? Being pissed at the completion of a footy season isn't the most bizzare occurance is it. So evertytime someone has a beer we should cut them from the list?

He should've stayed in bed but didn't. So what. Give him 6 weeks off next year and watch him become an All Australian in 2008.

Delist. Any other time, and I'd have said "slap on the wrist". But now, less than two days from the club's biggest game in over a decade? Incredibly poor move from DJ. Just not on.

Rosso, I normally agree with you BUT assault, abscond and resisting arrest isn't quite what you are describing is it.
If other members of the VFL team can resist celebrating and even train,so should he. Very bad form and example from one of the more senior players.Say bye-bye to DJ. :thumbsd:

Same here! Except with me it was with the radio.. just woken up, put the news on. Almost had a heart attack when they said "Senior Geelong player arrested for drunkenness!!" I don't need that kinda crap first thing in the morning geeze.

Anyway, poor form. Hopefully the players can just forget about it and focus on tomorrow, which is the most important thing. :thumbsu:

what a ****ing ********!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

DELIST HIM NOW!!!!

thats the last thing we need to be worrying about in grand final week.

crazy act, what was he trying to do, put pressure on the coaching staff for not selecting him?? cats got no choice but to show him the door after this.

Source- friend of DJ's

He was out celebrating the Ressies GF win and was copping it by the locals about not being in the seniors. He was drunk, the police arrived, offered him a lift home and he took it.
For some reason or another he returned, continued to cop it, finally retallialted and when the police arrived he resisted arrest and tried to run for it.

Well I guess that is a bit better for him then what we have been hearing. Maybe revisit this thread in a couple of weeks when emotions aren't running as high?

He has not been charged with assault. According to the paper he was hurling verbal abuse only. He has not been charged with assaulting an officer so the resisting arrest was not too severe although it is still resisting arrest.

Sounds like he was drunk swearing his head off and ignoring cops instructions so they tried to cuff him but he still didn't cooperate so they pepper sprayed him.

Not much worse than Mackie's "Want a shot at the title" comment if this is true.

Keep him, he mad e a mistake now lets give him a chance. A fantastic couragous player who is one of my favoourites

We might not need to delist him.
CATS defender David Johnson could face up to five years' jail on each of three separate counts of resisting police, after a wild night of drinking in Geelong ended with his dramatic arrest.

I reckon that's a bit of an exaggeration, like he could get that much time in jail, but is he actually going to? Probably not...
Furthermore, unless the GFC/police released a statement that I'm not aware of then the press have no idea of the severity.
So they're just guessing how many year/months/days/hours he'll get.

Very unlikely to face jail time for resisting police you would think. The five year penalty sounds severe, but it exists to be handed out for the severest of cases, not some minor dismeanours fulled by alcohol by somebody with a clean record (assuming it is clean)

It depends on the charge. Assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest can get a maximum penalty of 5 years. The charge of resisting arrest has a maximum penalty of 6 months jail or $2,500 fine. He will get a small fine and no conviction provided there was no assault. If there was an assault he may get a suspended sentence.

This whole episode has been blown out of proportion. Sure it was a stupid thing to do, however what are the media's role? To try and make the biggest story they can.

Grand Final week, VFL Grand Final player, Geelong player, Drunk, Police.... of course they would be all over it. There was no assault, and he only was subdued because he ran. If it had of been half way through the season would it have been headline news? Sure it would have got attention but at the end of the day he is an AFL footballer who made a mistake whilst letting his hair down.

Once again the media have shown how they will do anything for a big story. In my eyes, Johnson got drunk at the end of the season (something he is rarely able to do) got into trouble and made a very poor decision. Is that worth delisting?

Steve Johnson was in trouble a lot more times than this and got his 6 week rest. A delisting would be way too harsh ... especially a player who constantly backs into packs, never shirks an issue, plays for his teammates not himself and delivers well by hand and foot. The word selfish doesnt come to mind when thinking about David Johnson.
