I realise he was open about his form.. but if he wants to make comments about the SA batsmen, find something else that he doesn't suck at himself first. It would be like Cosgrove laughing at Darren Lehman getting run out because he was fat..

Given he was referring to them making a big deal about minor things happening in their peripheral vision, I think it's fair enough. That's not a problem Warner has.

6 needs to be a test batsmen with technique. Hes not a test batsmen but australi are desperate to replica India with Sehwag. Would never have Warner at 6,

Are we? Says who?

I think he's just the best option at the moment. I'm going to be so happy when he comes out and tonnes up in Adelaide.

He absolutely should drop down the order. ESPECIALLY in the shorter forms, but that's for another time.

Oh shitttttt

He's a potential match-winner as an opener. People saying he can't build an innings have very short memories. What he's got to learn, IMO, is that it's OK to throw the bat at the ball a bit, even early. It's his strength, and even if he gets out for 20-30, he's likely taken a whole lot of shine off the ball. He needs to back his eye and natural talent a bit more. So long as he plays balls along the ground (which he's actually very good at), he'll be great.

I don't mean to toot my own horn, but...

Whether we like it or not, he's our answer to Virender Sehwag, only with a better technique and without the benefit of flat subcontinental decks.

He'll fail often but fire spectacularly at other times. For now, we have to live with it.

I do wish Cowan/Warner was a more cohesive opening partnership, though - they hardly ever score runs at the same time.

I would still honestly prefer him in the middle order but I'm very happy to see him prove me wrong.

I'm still interested in how he will go in England where Sehwag has never had any real success.

Im the same. Yesterday was amazing. and he has the potential to do that on a regular basis.

I still would like to see him a bit lower in the order when it wont hurt as much if he goes cheap.

Slogged a century on a road in the first innings, slogged a 40 and got out stupidly on a slightly more difficult deck in the second innings, when the smart play was to compile an innings at a steady clip, keeping the middle order away from the twilight overs and giving us a good platform to build an unassailable lead by Lunch or Tea tomorrow. Everyone in the ground could see it, except apparently Warner, who tried to hit every single ball over the fence.

It's time to face facts - something the Australian selectors have never been good at - Warner is not a Test batsman. Twenty20 and a ODI opener at most.

Opener makes a hundred and a 40 in a match.

Yes, that does seem the perfect time to come out and label him unworthy of the format.

Cool story, bro. Or are you trolling?

Give the innings the real context and they don't look as good as you seem to think they are. His innings today was disgraceful given the situation.

You sir are a flog. Give the man where credit is due. He was a lot more patient today. Plus that's the way he plays. I would prefer him to be on the offensive as that when he play's his best. Amla is supposed to be the number 2 batsmen in the world what did he do. Warner batted well and went after it when he could.

That was patience?

Sure, that's the way he plays, fine. He can play it somewhere else then, because that's not the way to play as a Test opener, plain and simple. Drop him down the order or out of the side.

Sehwag and Gayle disagree with you. Strongly.

Yes, the Indian with no footwork who can't bat in a second innings and hasn't scored a century away from home in years, and the West Indian with a casual disregard for most things and a Test average of 42.

Stellar examples of short form blasters who frequently let their side down in test matches with reckless aggression and total disregard for the state of play.

Gilchrist and Afridi were better aggressive stroke makers than both of them, and where in the order did they play?

Test openers are Dravid, Smith and Hayden. Strong defense, measured aggression, situational awareness and quality strokeplay.

Did you just say Afridi was a better aggressive stroke maker than Sehwag or Gayle? Lol.

Sehwag and Gayle are great openers who would get a game for our Test side a million times over.

I'm not going to bother arguing with you. Have fun making your case that we should drop somebody coming off a match double of 100+ and 40.

Utterly absurd. If I was given the choice between Dravid and Sehwag to open my team, I'd take Dravid every single time. If the choice was between Sehwag, Gayle or Warner, I'd take Sehwag or Gayle too. Still lots of other players I'd take before any of the three of them to open the batting in a test.

Warner is not a test opener. Basic fact. He has a future in the short game, and maybe a future as a test 5 or 6, but that's all.

He'll fail often but fire spectacularly at other times. For now, we have to live with it.

And this is exactly why.

Not sure what is so wrong with an average of 45 and 3 hundreds in your first 11 tests.

I think (and hope, obviously) that you'll be proven wrong.
