I absolutely agreeCough cough Nor should an 18 year old kid dictate that they are not going to leave Victoria, Perkins sound familiar?
Ummmm.... Pretty sure most draft watchers would currently believe next year has more projected elite players (just not from the Allies or WA).Davo-27
How do you rate the 20-40 bracket in this years draft versus next years draft, after F&S and academy players are taken out?
Looking from a Collingwood perspective we may trade out of this year currently 18 and 28, possibly 24ish and 34ish after bids.
Next years draft looks deeper but with less projected elite players than this years draft IMO.
Thanks,
CC
I think most years are of similar quality(there are the odd superdrafts or low quality drafts but they are 1 in approx 10 years?), this year seems a tiny bit weaker than 2022 and 2024, but not enough to worry about imo, after pick 15 which most years are generally agreed upon it comes down to interviews, character, traits, position ect, so if you have a good recruiting team you're more likely to hit than miss, I don't know Collingwoods list management strategy with contracts ect, but I'm sure they have the next 3 years planned out already.Davo-27

It's not a strong year for midfielders, but maybe at 7 someone like Sanders and 18 maybe Demattia?Davo. Who is there with that blend of ruggedness and leg speed, a dual sided mid, to go around Pick7 to P18.?

One of the biggest cliches in AFL footy isUmmmm.... Pretty sure most draft watchers would currently believe next year has more projected elite players (just not from the Allies or WA).
One of the biggest cliches in AFL footy is
“Next years draft is better”
I swear I’ve heard that every single year for the last decade.
Up there with Credit to the boys as one of the most overused but meaningless phrases in the game.

The next super draft is always only known in hindsight not foresight.Last year everyone was saying that was a weak draft and this year was a potential super draft.
that annoyed me last year, there were a couple of guys really pumping up this year and discounting the 2022 draft, unfortunately some people will get misled by randoms.Last year everyone was saying that was a weak draft and this year was a potential super draft.
the only time i called a draft a super draft was 2018(my first year covering drafts on bigfooty), i was so impressed by the top end of that draft, i think a weak draft was 2020, but we couldnt tell that as there was no junior footy being played that year.(they would be the once in a decade anomalies)The next super draft is always only known in hindsight not foresight.
If you call every draft a super draft you are by the law of averages going to get one right eventually and be hailed a super phantom drafter.
Wasn't having a go at you Davo, love your work, was a general comment on anyone touting a potential super draft.the only time i called a draft a super draft was 2018(my first year covering drafts on bigfooty), i was so impressed by the top end of that draft, i think a weak draft was 2020, but we couldnt tell that as there was no junior footy being played that year.(they would be the once in a decade anomalies)
i was just saying when i have made that claim, i remember Knightmare saying 2018 wasnt a super draft because it wasnt deep enough with talent or something? i liked Knightmare and he did work prior to junior footy being available on the internet, but he made some odd calls at times, the most recent one i can think of was comparing Tom Scully from SA to Nick Riewoldt when he was getting hyped up... sanfl u18 footy has caught a few people out recentlyWasn't having a go at you Davo, love your work, was a general comment on anyone touting a potential super draft.
probably Colby McKercher. he seems to make good decisions most of the time, Nick Watson is also good at decision making in the forward line and half back, most of the top tier would be good decision makers in their positions, but its mostly a midfielder or hbf accumulator skill and as ive said this year isnt as strong with top midfield talent which is why we saw 2024 mids dominate for most teams in the champs, but to answer your question its what most draft watchers look for i think, or at least i do, so most of the 1st round would be good decision makers in most peoples lists.Davo-27 this might be a silly question but who are the best few decision makers in the draft? By that I mean The players that always seem to pick the best option while in possession?
To me it’s one of the most important traits in an elite player and I’m not convinced it can be coached or taught as easily as other skills
U-18's, not anymore.Don't want much do ya!!

The top 2 I have had in and out of my top 40s (Anastasopoulos was great for Geelong, took him awhile to pop off at champs, but has a lot of good qualities imo, goal kicking and as a pressure forw, Smartt had a couple big games for Bendigo and was big in the trials, didn't pop off as much at the champs, but he's a likely type), Wil Dawson seems a likely type too, KPP who kicked 3 goals in the trials game, played well in the champs at KPD and had a few games in ruck in the CTL, so pretty versatile, should be a mid to late draft pick, all 3 have a good chance of being drafted imo.Hey Davo-27 after watching the VM v VC game just now a few players from VC I liked wondered what you think of them as they aren’t in your 40
Tom Anastasopoulus - seems like a natural goal kicker
Oskar Smartt - did some nice things like his surname and good kick
Wil Dawson - likely kpd prospect
Cheers
These are my rankings, not a phantom draft, I think a KPF of Jed Walters quality if not linked to a club would see him taken pick 1, Harley Reid and Colby McKercher I have as the top 3 players with little separating them, last year there was little separating Ashcroft, Wardlaw, Sheezel and Cadman and Cadman went pick 1...Do you think Walter will get a bid at pick 1?
Interesting to have him at 1 seeing as all year Reid has been the "consensus" no.1 pick. Is he overhyped do you think? Or has Walter come on so strongly he's overtaken the guy who was seen as the widely obvious no.1 pick.
Would be great for the Tassie Devils if McKercher and Sanders go to North. Will make the extraction to Hobart in 2028 very easyThese are my rankings, not a phantom draft, I think a KPF of Jed Walters quality if not linked to a club would see him taken pick 1, Harley Reid and Colby McKercher I have as the top 3 players with little separating them, last year there was little separating Ashcroft, Wardlaw, Sheezel and Cadman and Cadman went pick 1...
In saying that, I think WCE will likely take Harley Reid for the press and extra 10k investment package the pick 1 gets, then it's likely North bids on Walter, then takes McKercher if I had to guess...
If Colby McKercher is taken, I wouldn’t mind us looking at Ryley Sanders with our first pick.Davo. Who is there with that blend of ruggedness and leg speed, a dual sided mid, to go around Pick7 to P18.?
Sanders lives in Melbourne. The Tassie team will need to trade for players. It will be like us last year - they will be given a lot of high picks they must use to get mature payers.Would be great for the Tassie Devils if McKercher and Sanders go to North. Nobody really knows what Tasmania will need to do to get players, and there is no certainty that kids previously from Tasmania will want to move back.Sanders lives in Melbourne. I'd rather a tall defender 6'-6" tall type, at our early pick. Go for a mid later 1st Rnd. Unless we get Harley Reid.?If Colby McKercher is taken, I wouldn’t mind us looking at Ryley Sanders with our first pick.
