Clubs will steer clear of Livingstone early imo. There's too much risk attached to him re his ability to move.

Freo may take him earlier, but not east coast teams, just my opinion.

Sadly, for many West Coast and Fremantle fans, Livingstone, like Ginbey last year will start to move up the national rankings during and after the 18's championships. (Can't hope to hide a player away forever)

Either way, he's getting drafted, whether that be around 40 or closing in around the 10-25 mark.

But having said that, I don't think an observer/writer should rate a player based on reputation. It's only fair that he/she needs to see the evidence with their own eyes.

He’s shown a fair bit more as a ruck forward this season, than Xavier Walsh. Is a legitimate 200cm+ athletic player.
Have not liked what I have seen from him in a few games, same with Will Elliot from last year, I'm curious if they can perform at championship level....whereas the half dozen times I've seen Xavier Walsh I have liked what I have seen, simple as that really, I'm not here to convince you either way, but I have a good record.

Do you think Harvey Johnston, Harry Demattia and Tarkyn O’Leary are all possible draftees from the Mordialloc region ?

Hey mate. Josh docking for sandy is a saints nga boy. Been playing good footy and was good for metro in the young guns game. Havnt seen him in any rankings, where do you see him at this stage of the season?

I like those 3 players, Harvey Johnston has played mid and flank early in the season, good movement on field, knows how to find it when in midfield role, bit of class about how he plays and has an athletic agile style about him, Demattia is an aggressive beast in mid and forward, I love how he impacts games and I think he is what clubs were hoping Humphrey's was last year imo, O'Leary has been good also, I'm less sure on him, but those Sandy guys have a knack of getting drafted.

Docking is a good player for Sandy and if they win a premiership again as expected then he will have extra opportunities to impress recruiters, both he and O'Leary are a sneaky chance to make the Metro Team which will also help their profile I would guess.

If you're curious in the previous Page I detailed who the best players were for each team in the CTL (old NAB League)

Logan Morris - Western Jets, looked really good on the weekend playing for Werribee in their easy win over Footscray Bulldogs in the VFL, looked like he hurt his knee, but came back on to finish the game, looked good at the level as a 17/18 yr old, draft stocks improved.

100% agree. But I have rated him pretty highly since seeing him play last year. Morris and Caddy up fwd for VM will provide a couple of strong targets.

Hey Davo,
Just wondering if young Wil Elliott is still on Hawthorns radar and if you rate him?
Also is he the type of player you see we need?

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app
I have never been a fan of Will Elliot, I think some people got interested based on his cricketing dad, but he isn't on my radar as a serious option, he is ruckman height and hasn't done much in 2 years

Hey Davo ,
Just wondering if you still see Will McCabe going around the Mid 30’s in this years Draft ?

On iPhone using BigFooty.com mobile app
I had him going around 30 after seeing the u16s last year, since then he has performed at sanfl u18s and against NSW also last year kicking bags of goals in private school footy so has raised his draft capital imo.

My recent rankings in the previous page has him at 21, I commented on the Hawks FS thread that he seems to be a late 1st round option atm (approx range 15-25)

Where do you see Jake Rogers being bid on now or in pure power ranking after his recent performances?
I had him at 11 in my most recent rankings in the previous page, I think his height might keep him out of top 10, but he has been huge in both AFL Academy games and I was a fan of how he dominated GCS A games in the CTL although being in a poor performing team, which all the northern academies were this season.

i thought i would add another 10 to the May list as i liked a few more than i had for my top 50, so heres my updated May Rankings

i guess its controversial, but i rate Delean ahead of Moir in SA, i think he performs in big games better, i really think Rogers for GCS has taken it up a level this year, i rated a lot of talls high because i know how valuable AFL clubs rate them, Curtin, Walter and A.Reid, Freijah had a huge game showing what his ceiling could be, McCabe has had some excellent games in the u18s in SA, C.O'Sullivan is a decent player, but at his height and the way he moves i think he would be a valuable prospect so i raised his rank because of that, Philactides has the potential of last year, but i have not liked his form this year so far, Xavier Walsh was very impressive in his debut WAFL Colts game(was very good in u16s champs), Clay Hall is playing well in the WAFL and Logan Evans is playing well in the SANFL, Caleb May is a good mark around the ground, Darcy Weeks has been impressive since returning from injury, even though Sanders is averaging high poss, i have not been a fan of how he is playing this year so far.

Hey Davo-27 in shifters 78 there were a few key position players that looked interesting. You have O’Sullivan have you seen either or both of Wil Dawson and Ollie Murphy? Seem like decent prospects wondered from an expert what you think as I am only going on the write up. Cheers

Ollie Murphy is one I remember liking from earlier in the year, but I'm not too familiar with Wil Dawson tbh, is he a ruckman? 17 year old rucks are so hit or miss tbh.

WIL DAWSON

Club: Gippsland Power/Leongatha FC/Leongatha SC
Height: 200 cm
Weight: 86 kg
DOB: 20/12/05
A tall forward or ruckman who presents very well on the lead as a marking target, Dawson was eye-catching when he booted three goals and took four marks in the first Vic Country trial. He has had a significant growth spurt of 20cm in the past two years, but has maintained that aggression and intensity of attacking ground balls which are usually associated with smaller players. One of the younger players in this year’s draft pool, Dawson does not turn 18 until late December, indicating plenty of upside to come. He has averaged 13.3 disposals and 3.7 marks in a strong start to the season for the Power.

He is a top 20 Smokey, hopefully plays more forward for Country as he has played a fair bit of ruck for Gippy.

So far this season I think there has been many who have stabilised their reputation or draft value from my PoV, but there have been as many who are rising in value and a handful dropping in value, so I thought I would comment on players I think are rising/dropping in value so far this year and a reason why.

Players dropping in value from the public's favourites:

Ashton Moir: he was talked about as a very high pick, I had seen him in a few games last year and he wasn't great, except 1 game where things went his way and he kicked I think 4 goals(he also has an impressive u18s record, so I gave him the benefit of the doubt) he seems like a slow and laconic forward with beautiful skills, has dominated in the open spaces and lack of pressure that Is the SANFL U18s, but in reserves or for the AFL Academy and the VM game last year he struggles to get the ball to show off his skills, I wouldn't use a top 10 pick on a guy who struggles to get the footy in pressure games, he needs a big champs series imo, similar to Cam Taheny or Curtis Taylor from North

Zane Duursma: an amazing talent as a medium forward, but at AFL level, medium forwards aren't as dominant, he is a decent midfielder, mostly his movement is elite, but struggles to win the ball enough or have enough impact as a mid with poss, meaning a club is likely going to have to play him forward 80/20 at the next level, but his movement and deadeye accuracy at goal and being a nice height gives him traits that will see him in good stead at the top level.

Will Lorenz: has good movement in the midfield, but has dropped away big this season, playing mostly forward for Oakleigh and not stamping any authority on any game so far this year, going through the motions and needs to show more than a couple of top tier games last year, there are rumours he is playing injured, but there's no excuse for weak effort imo, for both Oakleigh and the AFL Academy he wasn't performing to expectations, so we'll see what he does at the champs.

Nathan Philactides: his games last year were fantastic, strong, intercepting gun, run and carry and good disposal, this year nearly every aspect of his game has got worse, idk what it is, he has been in really bad form for Oakleigh, but has lifted and played well for the AFL Academy so I'm not sure yet and I'm waiting for the champs with this guy, because there are worrying signs and positive signs, so hopefully he puts the concerns to bed with some great games at the champs.

Next Post I will discuss my thoughts on the dozen kids who have raised their drafting profiles imo

I don’t think it’s very fair to start sh*ting on these kids. They each might have their own reason as to why they aren’t performing each week. As long as there are putting in effort it’s all you can ask for.

WTF. Far be it for me to defend Davo, I'm sure he can deal with it himself but I can't see where Davo is shi^ing on anybody. He has pointed out why in his OPINION the draftees in question have dropped in draft value. There's nothing there that a hundred others will not say or have not said. If one of the kids is your son and you are not able to deal with opinions that may injure your sensitivities I'd suggest do not come to read here on the draft board, because you will sure as day follows night read much worse things being said than what Davo has written.

How someone could define my last post as shitting on kids is hilarious to me.

Anyway enough of that nonsense and now to the players rising in value this year

Jake Rogers: his form the last 2 years has been strong, but the 2 efforts for the AFL Academy v men were unexpected, he highlighted his pace and ability to find clean attacking space at the stoppage and centre bounces, his disposal has been solid too and the way he tackles men in these games also makes me think he has what it takes, for me he has gone from around that 20 pick mark to a top 10 chance, probably the form player out of everyone in the draft pool atm

Colby McKercher: another whose game has developed to another level, just oozes class this year, has put on display his talents as a midfielder and not just a winger, I think because he can play both roles at a good level, it has risen his value and he is now a top 10 prospect with potential to go top 5

Jack Delean: in my view he has improved his value, he might not have the raw numbers at sanfl u18s, but he seems to play better in big games, also can play him hff and mid to good levels, so isn't just pigeon holed as a forw, in 2021 people were comparing him to Isaac Heeney and potentially pick 1, but everyone forgot his potential in 2022, but I think he has a lot of talent and it shines through the tougher the opponent

Darcy Wilson: another who I think because of his scoring power and ability to find space on a wing has improved his ranking, he wasn't so good in games I saw of him last season, but plenty were talking him up including CT, but I can see where they were coming from in various games so far this season for Murray and AFL Academy, although he does make more errors than I personally like, he does have special moments as well

Harry Demattia: a player I was told to keep an eye out for last year, talk about strong explosive talent, in Dandenong games this year he has exploded onto the ball and has kicked some ripper goals, I love how he plays, he has a bit of Jai Newcombe about him, strong, aggressive, bull of a player, I didn't know much about him prior to the season, but I have loved what he has produced so far this season and Dandenong are a delight to watch again, they are creating a good program down there in the last few years and have some rippers for next year

Mitch Edwards: a player I have rated around 20-30 previously, I think he may have pushed himself into 1st round contention, I don't like over rating 17 yr old ruckman because their development takes so long compared to average sized talent who are immediately ready to go and kpp who take approx 2-3 years to get going, rucks can take 3-5 years to start showing their best at the top level, but Edwards has shown an ability to not only win taps but also win a fair share of disposal around the ground and also importantly an ability to take contested pack marks on a fairly regular basis, which has been exciting to watch in various competitions

I will talk about another 6 players I think are rising in value prior to the champs in the next post
