Re: Dawson Simpson

thanks for that - good news

crossing fingers Vardy and Menzel get to run and play this year in some capacity too

Menzel is already back on the training track and Scott said through the week he should be back after the bye - so, barring any further injury(touch wood) we will see him again this year, right in the nick of time!! :D

Great news about Simpson too - its making me think perhaps thats why Orren is back this week so we can get the structures sorted for when Dawson is up to speed and can just slot straight in.

Stephenson played a fine game tonight...better than any senior game Simpson has played...to date.

Simpson has played 2 games...2 games! He is not going to be Otto re-incarnate.

People are expecting too much of him.

Wir leben in der Schweiz, so it's just after work etc here. On Simpson is he any use around the ground. i.e. could he sit the hole in front of the opposition's CHF?

Simpson can play. It will take quite a bit of time though to be sure he is right before he gets his tilt. No need to rush. Simpson is about 2013 on. If he comes up quickly this year can realise some of his potential we will be in a position to work our way back in.

Great that Orren showed a bit last night - just game 3.

i'd still rather expand on the 2 games of a 23 year old than the 2 games of a 29 year old. when he's fit, of course

Half a year on; we were so lucky we had Ottens.

The stats showing our lack of contested footy is directly correlated to our taps to advantage. We are losing those stats. Sure, West may get a tap, but, we rarely get a huge advantage from it like a clean break from the contest.

That then forces our midfielders to get dirty. With the class of those left from the retirement of Ling and Ablett's move, age maybe catching up with them. Far too many times the likes of Chapman, J Corey and Bartel go missing for long periods. Whilst they do eventually get going, like last night, the absence of J Corey and Champan early hurt us badly.

I think the value of the contested footy is where the game is won, well against quality opponents. The loss of Ottens has meant that our taps to advantage have slipped and we have to rely heavily upon our midfield to get the contested footy; which isn't the best outcome for our ageing midfield.

Yes of course...but expectations of Daws should be tempered is the point I am making.

IF that is so, how do you explain our domination of those stats in 09 when Ottens played less than a handful of games pre finals?? Of course, it was Blake who fed our mids with precision taps....

l really think Ling's inside work has been underrated and sorely missed. He used to scrap and hold the ball and/or player in. Or at least muddy the waters for the opposition, if not knock and tumble it forwards 5m for us.

He was so strong inside and 80% of it never ended up on a stat sheet.

Add Otto to that:thumbsu:

Yep it is all guess work at this stage with Dawson.

He has the size to be a good first ruckman - he has the attitude as well. Whether these good qualities are combined with real talent is really unknown.

I reckon, based on little, he seems to have something - and I think he may make it. However I do expect him to turn it on this season.

We can dream I suppose - as we need 'something' to happen that will help rejuvenate the side.

Hi David, I think, if my memory is right, 1 of his games was against Sandilands (or was it Cox), and he did ok.

absolutely right Scottland...both in fact. Not knocking the guy...he may turn out to be a fine player...I just think there's a lot expected of him straight up, and with two games under his belt, that's....cough....a tall order!!!! :D

(did you see what I did there? )

Your right. Shouldn't expect Dawson to be the difference with us under performing at moment. Good joke with the tall order.

Am off to vfl today and am pumped. Huge Dawson fan as I have not seen a bug guy with perhaps limited ability try as hard as he has around the contest. Very confident that when he gets match fitness he will start playing consistent senior footy.

How long will it take you to get there from Indonesia GB?

Can you write a report on the players performance? It would be much appreciated. I know Roj will write something but I find that a number of reviews with differing perspectives are helpful.
