Usually try to end up doing one each year, and here's my effort for this season.

1. MELBOURNE
Jack Watts

Local boy, Melbourne are desperate for a key forward who they can build around for the next decade, and Watts’ mix of size and speed off the mark make him a perfect fit.

2. WEST COAST EAGLES
Nicolas Naitanui

Impressive package for a ruckman, will be able to take over from Cox, 3-4 years down the line, and it’s the perfect situation for him to develop.

3. FREMANTLE
Stephen Hill

Some may think it’s a surprise over Rich, but with Subiaco being a big ground and all, Hill’s speed and aerobic capacity make it a good fit. Will be a good run and carry midfielder, even though some people think his kicking is suspect.

4. PORT ADELAIDE
Tyrone Vickery

They’ll overlook Rich and go for Vickery on a need basis, because Brogan and Lade are getting up there, and there’s really no-one behind them currently besides Lobbe who could possibly replace them down the line.

5. ESSENDON
Daniel Rich

Essendon will be stoked to get Rich at 5. Will be a 200 game midfielder, and they probably need another good clearance midfielder besides Watson in there. Exactly the type of player, with Rich’s kicking ability that the Bombers need. Add him and Prismall to their midfield, and suddenly it looks a lot better.

6. CARLTON
Michael Hurley

Carlton will go for Hurley to give them a key defender to use against the power forwards down the line and to add to their spine. Questions about his speed off the mark, but he can work at that.

7. BRISBANE LIONS
Tom Swift

Risky pick, but Swift could be anything. Comparable midfielder to Joel Corey IMHO, and Voss rated him enormously back at the Academy and will mandate the selection here. Could be another Selwood v 2.0.

8. RICHMOND
Shaun McKernan

Simmonds is getting older, Pattison is iffy to take over as the #1 ruckman, and McKernan will give Wallace that tall player he can use as a ruckman / forward to create matchup problems. Possible replacement for Richo down the line.

9. NORTH MELBOURNE
Hamish Hartlett

Gives the Kangaroos an outside midfielder with good foot skills, which is something they probably need more of. Will fit in nicely here.

10. ADELAIDE
Lewis Johnstone

Neil Craig has said they’ll be targeting key position players, and Johnstone being a local boy and all, is probably the best choice for them here.

11. COLLINGWOOD
Chris Yarren

Has the bit of X-Factor about him, could play anywhere really, and Collingwood have shown a liking to these type of players in the past (e.g Chris Egan).

12. SYDNEY
Jack Ziebell

They’ll probably be after a KPP, but Ziebell falling down here is too good to pass up. Can play most positions which should appeal to Roos.

13. ST KILDA
Ashley Smith

A surprise selection perhaps, but the Saints have been trying to keep getting more leg speed into their midfield for a while, and will continue with that here.

14. WESTERN BULLDOGS
Ayce Cordy – F/S

Long – term prospect, who should make for a good ruckman / forward down the line.

15. GEELONG
Jackson Trengrove

Will Egan most likely retiring, and Taylor probably going to end up as a 2nd or 3rd tall defender, Geelong will want a defender who can take over for Scarlett and play on the power forwards. Trengrove should fit the bill, and Geelong have taken players with queries over injuries before (Selwood and Varcoe).

16. HAWTHORN
Steele Sidebottom

Excellent get here for the Hawks. They keep adding to their powerful midfield, and his big performance in the TAC Cup will really appeal to the Hawks as a player who can play well on the big day.

PRIORITY

17. MELBOURNE
Jordan Lisle

Key position player who can play forward or back, and should fit in well for the Dees. Probably a 1st rounder in value, but these priority picks will come in handy.

18. WEST COAST EAGLES
Aaron Cornelius

A lot of drafts have him slipping, and he’s not exactly flavor of the month, but he’s one of the best markers in this draft, and that’s exactly what the Eagles need in their forward line.

ROUND 2

19. MELBOURNE
Mitch Robinson

Could go anywhere from late 1st to the 2nd, and the Dees will probably be after at least 1 good midfield prospect with their 3 picks.

20. WEST COAST EAGLES
Sam Blease

Will offer some dash and excitement as a small defender / midfield prospect. Again same as Melbourne, they’ll probably be after at least 1 midfielder with their 3 early picks.

21. FREMANTLE
Michael Walters

They’ll need a small forward with the retirement of Farmer, and eventually Walters could move in the midfield. Being a local boy and all, it’s a excellent fit, if the Eagles don’t take him at 20.

22. PORT ADELAIDE
Nick Suban

Inside midfielder, which the Power probably needing more of. Should be good at the clearances.

23. ESSENDON
Jordan Roughead

Ruckman prospect, as I just don’t think Knights and co. rate Laycock much to be honest. Will take over for Hille down the line.

24. FREMANTLE
Ryan Schoenmarkers

Key forward talent, and the Dockers will need somebody to take over from Pavlich one day. Bottom aged, so he’ll have plenty of time to develop.

25. BRISBANE LIONS
Rhys O’Keefe

Left footed midfielder / half forward who uses the ball well and will add to the Lions’ midfield options.

26. RICHMOND
Matthew Broadbent

Defender / midfielder who’s a pretty good get round this area. Could contribute straight away if he’s up to speed.

27. NORTH MELBOURNE
Neville Jetta

They’ve got Campbell and Thomas, but the Roos have had major success with those small type of midfield / forward options, and with Harvey getting older, I’d think they’d want to keep adding to those options here.

28. ADELAIDE
Tom Lynch

Key defender prospect who could end up forward. Athletic enough to be a good rebounding defender, and you know Craig loves those type of players.

29. COLLINGWOOD
David Zahrakis

Inside midfielder who’ll add a bit of grunt for the Pies, and they’ll need that with the retirement of Burns.

30. SYDNEY
Jayden Post

KP prospect who’s rising on a lot of draft boards. Sydney will take at least 1 tall, and Post will fit the bill here.

31. WESTERN BULLDOGS
Tom Rockliff

Plays taller than what he is, and the Dogs are always looking for key forwards and hoping that they’ll actually find a good one, one day.

32. WESTERN BULLDOGS
Matthew DeBoer

Midfield prospect who could turn into a quality tagger, and probably the type of defensive midfielder that the Dogs need with all of the quality offensive midfielders that they have (besides Boyd).

33. GEELONG
Dan Hanneberry

Bottom aged midfielder, and the Cats will be able to give him 3 years to develop and see what type of midfielder he is.

34. HAWTHORN
Nick Heyne

Not like they need anymore forwards, but he can play midfield / half forward and probably compared to Ryan O’Keefe a little, who they were after.

ROUND 3

35. MELBOURNE
James Strauss

Midfield prospect who’s probably ready to go. Doesn’t have as much upside as other players, but the Dees will probably want to show at least something good from their draft straight away next season, and Strauss could fit the ball.

36. WEST COAST EAGLES
Hayden Ballantyne

They’ll take the local player who could go into their midfield from day 1 if needed. Could be another Priddis if he applies himself.

37. FREMANTLE
Clancee Pearce

Good small to medium defender and will learn under a good one in Roger Hayden. Good reader of the play.

38. PORT ADELAIDE
Mitch Brown

Maybe a surprise, but the Power could do with a key forward with White gone, and Tredrea not what he was. Needs to add more to his game, but he’ll give the Power a target to kick to.

39. GEELONG
Paul Cahill

Key defender / forward who’ll take some time to develop, but looks like a pretty good prospect, and the Cats will need to find some more KPP’s fast.

40. CARLTON
Luke Stanton

Utlity type of midfielder who’s a jack of all trades. Good run and carry midfielder, and he’ll fit in well with the Blues.

41. BRISBANE LIONS
Steven Gaertner

Very inconsistent, but his best is very good. Atheltic KPB, who could end up anywhere on the ground.

42. PORT ADELAIDE
Chris Hall

Quick midfielder who needs to put on some weight, but in this day and age of football, you need a footballer who can get around the ground.

43. NORTH MELBOURNE
Sam Wright

Half forward type of player who needs to work on the defensive parts of his games, but could end up being an excellent player around goals.

44. ADELAIDE
Luke Shiels

Runs hard to receive, and has been compared to Clinton Young. Adelaide could probably use a midfielder in his mould.

45. COLLINGWOOD
Zach Clarke

Pies will take at least 1 ruckman I think for long – term purposes. Clarke is a decent enough choice at this spot.

46. COLLINGWOOD
Todd Banfield

Quick midfielder who has good toughness, 2 qualities that the Pies need in their midfield.

47. ST KILDA
Jarred Redden

Also think the Saints will take 1 project ruckman as Ross Lyon loves them, and Gardiner and King may not both be around in 2010. Redden and McEvoy could end up being a good young ruck duo.

48. ST.KILDA
Rory Sloane

Small defender who sticks to a task and reminds me a little of Jayden Attard. The type of accountable player Lyon likes.

49. GEELONG
Jamie Sheehan

Interesting prospect, but has quite a bit to his game as a midfielder pushing forward. Actually reminds me of Chapman a little.

50. HAWTHORN
Phil Davis

A key defender, and the Hawks will want to hit on at least one (with Croad’s foot injury), so they’ll keep their options open. Could go earlier, but I have him slipping here.

Great effort mate. I like where you have Ash Smith and i'm surprised so many people have him so low in their drafts. I just think with his kick and his draft camp results he is going to sky-rocket, possibly into the top 10.

That's a great effort. Another detailed one.

If your top 10 is on the money, i'd really hope we would take Ziebell or Sidebottom with our pick 11 than Yarran.

I know he is an amazing player...but Chris Egan just springs to mind (and you mentioned him as well). I think our need is desparately an inside mind. We have said we will go best available with pick 11...but i reckon Ziebell would be best available.

Plus we have Brad Dick coming off a knee op and i know we have extremely high hopes for him to become an Aaron Davey like player.

I also couldnt see Dayne Beams in your draft....do you think he'll be passed up.

I agree with you on Richmond's pick

Not sure that draft is what the Bulldogs need - we have a number of tougher inside mids who can play the role (Cross, Boyd, Addison, Reid, Callan who currently plays BP). A key back or ruck would be nice

If we have a choice between Hartlett and Ziebell at nine I will be extremely happy.

If we then pass up both I'll kill someone.

Well the Dogs are taking a ruckman in Cordy with their 1st pick.

Cross and Boyd are the 2 obvious inside midfielders, but I think Rocket would like 1 more as a replacement for West.

Callan's more a small defender, and Addison still has a way to go.

Yeah, dunno about taking Jetta or Wright though. Prefer Heyne and Davis with those picks.

not too bad an effort
good with the explanation
I'd rather Ziebell, Trengove or Sidebottom over Johnston
Would be happy with a Key Position player in the second round, and a tall backman would be good
Seeing as how Davis makes it to our 3rd round pick, i wouldn't bee too disappointed with Lynch at 28, though it's probably better if we don't tempt fait and just take him there
Also would be happy with Heyne at 28
If Davis is there at our 3rd round pick, i can't see him being missed and wouldn't be happy if we did
If we get Ziebell/Sidebottom, Lynch and Davis in this draft I will be very happy

Addison would have played 22 games this year, injury is all that kept him out.

Usually try to end up doing one each year, and here's my effort for this season.

Concerned that you have copied info from other drafts. Seems a little suspect that your evaluations on a number of players are exactly the same as mine.

Pearce, Smith. Hartlett, Deboer... Struck a little too close to home IMO.

Being overseas and all, I haven't been able to follow the prospects first hand this year, as I usually try to do.

So I have looked at a lot of different sources on the prospects, and apologies if you think I've copied the same evaluations, but I haven't tried to intentionally do that.

I think everyone does a bit of that though (looking at others, and then looking at the clubs' strengths and weaknesses and trying to find a match from there).

Chris Egan *shudders*. Yarran is good but don't want him. Egan is enough to put me off any guy.

Debour and Tom Hill(Bottom Age) would be a win

Good thing someone told me that, because I wouldn't have known exactly what the Bulldog recruiters were hoping for next Saturday.

Thanks for the insight.:)
