would be more the other way around wouldn't it? i thought the ruck rover was the bigger bodied bloke while the rover was the little quick runner? i could be wrong, the terms pretty much went out late 90's and i was till a teen.

It's kinda funny how the terms have lived on in suburban footy. playing down in melbourne our coach used to call each position the centre, ruck rover and rover... was always thinking "its been years so those positions existed in their literal meanings'

One is the term "rover", haven't heard it been used for years ....

I know, I coached junior footy for a few years about 10 years back and would show the kids who were the ruck-rovers on the magnetic board and it was like Chinese to them and their parents (except the Chinese family). Conversely I was asked what KPPs were (which I could answer) and what on-ballers were (which I couldn't and still can't).
