Good old fashioned man on man battle today, will get a hell of a battle against the Tigers next week.

Was a good contest for three & a bit quarters but the Demons are a couple of years advanced in terms of development over Richmond & that showed out in the end!

why is this myth being produced, in 2007 tiges were lower than us, we have had 2007,2008,2009 and 2010 as our development years, so have richmond.

They have been developing their list just as long if not longer than us.

Tigers badly missing an option outside of Reiwoldt.

Was always going to bite them in the arse. It can be akin to Neitz in the 07 year, where even if 10 people were on Neitz we would still stupidly kick to him.

Fair play to Melbourne, they were just a little cleaner with the pill, but I felt Richmond were pretty impressive as well today.

To me there isn't a lot between the two teams.

When you add in Cotchin, Foley, and a promising 200cm injured full forward in Griffiths into the mix I don't reckon we're that far away.

Looking forward to watching these two for next few years.
Do Melbourne fans get the feeling that they'll need a readjustment period should McDonald / Green and to a lesser extent Bruce start to slip in form or fitness?

In a somewhat similar vein to Essendon who assured us that they'd be fine losing Lucas / Lloyd despite lacklustre seasons.

Definately like the form of both these sides however and today was a top game.

With all that said, I hope Melbourne really shake the eight by giving it to Hawthorn next weekend.

No, You are wrong
You guys took the tanking road.
Wallace thought he had the plan to get us in finals - He was wrong and that put us back a couple of years.

McDonald has only just come back into the side after missing several weeks, we've played some of our better footy without him.
Green has 3 or 4 more seasons in him and Bruce has been inconsistent, it's not going to be a major issue.

We were missing Moloney, Grimes & Petterd today, those three are ample replacement. We also have Gysberts, Tapscott, Blease and a couple other kids still developing.

It won't be an issue

We only started turning over our list properly last year. Wallace never committed to a proper rebuild which was clearly needed. Melbourne have been in this process for a few years. We're a year or 2 behind you in terms of development. It's not a myth.

Also on the Dees - great effort by their fans. I know it was their home game today but they had huge support. That + debt demolishion = great work by Melbourne fans.

:thumbsu: to you guys.

I actually thought we were pretty ordinary.

- The dees were much cleaner with the ball and didn't make nearly as much mistakes.
- The dees have a so much better backline.
- Once Riewoldt was shut down we couldn't score.
- No-one from us actually played really well. Frawley, Jurrah, Green and Bruce did.
- Overall we still look like a bottom four side.
- What makes us better prospects than the dees, roos etc. Dees av age is about the same as the tigers I'd think.

The roos and dees will probably overtake us if they haven't already. I realised this when I think it was Connors streaming out of the backline to kick a dribbler 10 meters out on the full.

As a tigger fan I can be excused for being skeptical.

Wallace admitted to not trying to win to ensure Richmond got Cotchin.

Pot.Kettle.Black

No he admitted to letting the players play the last quarter of the game themselves.

We still fielded a strong side and nearly knocked the saints off.

Not tanking, just shit coaching!

Mcdonald was missing for six? weeks and has been poor the last two, we are lucky to have some good inside mids coming through.

Bruce we can cover. Green will be a massive loss but is a few years away from retirement yet I would have thought.

No, he admitted to not trying to win because he wanted to guarantee that Richmond received Cotchin in the draft.

You can sugar coat it anyway you like but those are the facts, he publicly admitted it.

Wallace is a pain in the arse and didnt help okay so maybe a year BUT as Demonheart has mentioned he also tanked (yes i said melbourne tanked ooooh). But people keep saying a couple of years, it just bothers me.

This, Green is young and prob in career best form, Frawley, Garland and Joel Mac and Rivers have been one of the major reasons for us winning not just brucey and mcdonald, jnr in the start yes but not now, we have covered from him amazingly (thought we were going to be in trouble with that one) and we were for around 8 weeks.

dont know about you, but I dont class 29 years old as young.. :D

Was a good effort but we missed that 2nd tall forward who actually knows how to play forward. Griffiths will come back bigger after the preseason and at about 200cm and 100kg he is very similar to Tippett at the same age. Troy Taylor looks an exciting prospect too and is about 190cm. Don't forget Gourdis(194cm) and Post(195cm) who are part of Hardwicks plans too. Cotchin and Foley would have been handy today. We are 12 months behind Melbourne, not 2 years

Wallace said in the last 5 minutes (roughly) he just didn't make any changes and let the game play out.

While it is tanking to a degree, it is nowhere near the same ballpark as the disgraceful effort Melbourne put in last year.

And their rebuild is 12 months ahead of us, as we did our major list cleanout last year, and will do another decent one this year. But we already have a decent core group going forward. So 12 months, not 24 behind.

I think it could prove to be a Geelong St Kilda type rivalry (who has the better young kids). I just hope we end up as strong as these two teams.

2007 was an aberration sandwiched between two 9th places. The rebuild (such as it was) under Wallace was an each-way bet, but 2010 is different.

Youngest teams (average age to R19, last ten years):

Richmond 2007 29th/160
Richmond 2008 54th/160
Richmond 2009 23rd/160
Richmond 2010 .1st/160

Fair play to both teams of a hard fought contest and with respect to the Tigers, a fair result. It's fantastic to have a year where every team is having a crack wherever they are on the ladder, wins and losses are taken as just that and the draft and the "T" word rarely rate a mention. It would nice to think this is the way it stays this way after the expansion loot and pillage years are over, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
