Let me guess 30 odd kicks from the back pocket to the half back flank?

He's not fit to shine Deledio's shoes, and you know it.

He's a midfielder you pleb. You've just proved you have absolutely no idea about football and don't even watch your own games. If you did, you'd know where Stanton played and how badly he smashed your useless team to pieces.

Rd 7: 21 kicks, 15 handballs, 1 goal, 1 goal assist. 3 Brownlow votes.
Rd 22: 16 kicks, 15 handballs, 1 goal 4 points, 1 goal assist. 3 Brownlow votes.

Anyway...

I was surprised to find their stats so similar, both this year and across their entire careers.

Difference is; Deledio has had alot more attention than Stanton. Lids has had the number 1 tag for over 2 years now. That's not taking anything away from Stanton who is a very good player, but I'd rather Lids who is just starting to learn what it takes to play well with a tag.

What difference is that? Stanton also carries the #1 tag.

No he doesn't.

Most teams don't bother tagging Watson because his inside work is almost impossible to stop, and his outside work isn't damaging enough, so the number one tag rotated between Stanton and Lovett, like Cousins and Lids.

I understand that. I have alot of family and friends who support Essendon so I watch alot of their games. I can't remember seeing Stanton copping a heavy tag. Usually Lovett and Watson get the tag from opposition negators.

I'm not taking anything away from Stanton, I just think if he copped the attention Lids does, their respective stats wouldn't be so close.

Wrong. Stanton has been the first player tagged on our side for the last two years. When Lovett's form stepped up at the start of this year, he started getting the number 1 on occassion, but most games it was still Stanton. Just because you can't remember it doesn't mean it isn't true.

Didn't watch either Richmond vs Essendon games? Jackson played him both times and along with Clinton Jones were the only players to successfully tag him. Absolutely killed him the first time.

Yes Jacko tagged him the first time around. Second time Jacko wasn't used as a tagger.

Still played on him, but was used in more of an inside role instead of a stopper. Not that it matters, but I think taggers will be gone within a couple of years.

Are there any other kind?

Seriously, Deledio is a far superior player in all aspects.
Stanton is your run of the mill midfielder who gets a lot of possession but is about as damaging as a wet christmas card and Deledio can seriously play when he pulls his finger out.

Stanton V Hawthorn 2009:

Rd 7:

36 disposals, 1 goal

Rd 22:

31 disposals, 1 goal

Seriously, how much does Essendon have to own Hawthorn before they get it? You will always be poorer then us.

Oh yeah, what a superstar. Definitely fit for the no.5 guernsey. What a champion player.

Is that better?

Deledio every day of the week.

Of the 16 votes for stanton so far, 1 isn't a Essendum supporter.

Now that's ownership.

p.s Our record Memberships and Profit state otherwise, champ.

Now discuss the topic at hand, and stop whining about Hawthorn.

Deledio. has potential to become a top 15playr in the comp. He has good skills, big tank, very good hands. Just needs to get his head right. Would be an out and out champion if he was playing in a good side.
Stanton will never be more than a good, solid player. I know he works hard and can kick. But i just dont see him becoming "elite". He could prove me wrong.
