On natural physical talent I think they are even if not Deledio ahead...however Dale Thomas's work ethic puts him well ahead.

Deledio has all the tools to be a top 5-10 player imo but doesn't seem to have the desire like Thomas who will gut run all day..

However I think Deledio will still get better and better as he has never played in a good side. Hopefully in the next 5 years sometime we see the Tigers in the top 4 and I think it will make Deledio look very very good!

However he is his own worst enemy imo as it is between the ears...

Edit: I think the start of this thread also highlights the point about how much better a player looks as the side gets better....Dale has gotten better as the pies have.

When Deledio has played two blinders in consecutive grand finals we can talk.;) I'm not sure whether Deledio has ever been called the best player in the AFL by an opposition coach either.

He hasn't. But Dale Thomas has never been the best player in the AFL either. We all know it was Ross just trying to blow smoke up his arse before they played them.

Anyhow Deledio is a wasted talent at Richmond. I can't see that side improving and being a serious contender in the next 5 years whilst Lids is in his prime, so he will probably never reach his full potential if he stays there. He should probably request a trade asap imo, as I think he would really flourish at a good club.

Deledio is probably a more talented footballer than Thomas in the raw ability stakes, but Thomas has been the better player.

When Ross made those comments he wasn't far off the mark IMO, Thomas was fisting teams on a weekly basis and his work ethic was making Swan look like a dole bludger, he was kicking goals, defensive pressure was huge, taking hangers, winning hard ball and his attack on the footy was second to none IMO, has been super consistant this year and wouldve been right up there in brownlow betting had he not been rubbed out and missed 3 games all up.

Different players. Different development curves.

Thomas has always had the most upside IMO

Players of his type take 4-5 seasons before they start gunning it every week.
