I would be interested in one player only.

He is Paddy Steinfort.

22 years old,198cm,98kg.
Played junior footy in the Glen Waverley area, and Oakleigh under 18`s. Pick 16 in the 1996 Draft as a 17 year old.

At Richmond has had a shocking run with injuries.

Currently training at Essendon.

I would take these players into consideration.

1. Martyn - our defence is paper thin, one more year would be of benefit to the club, and let a club legend bow out with dignity.
2. Collins - mid-sized running backman, reasonable overhead, decent skills. Bit of a concern that now two clubs have seen him as dispensable for whatever reason.
3. Cox - a question on his hardness/application but height, run and accurate disposal make him a workable talent.
4. Houlihan - good small/medium forward who like his brother Ryan can kick goals early in games, and kick goals in bursts. Good skilss, so wiith experience may even become a midfield option.
5. Poulton - running defender with reasonable skills, but doesn't look overly quick. Tagger maybe? His drafting could partially cover the move of Pickett to the forward line.
6. Knowles - engine room midfielder who gets a lot of the ball when he is in there. Has been used sporadically by all his coaches at St.Kilda - is there a fitness or attitude problem maybe?
7. Harwood - mid-sized marking target who probably doesn't get as much of the ball as he should. Also looks to have been under-used at his club. Too small to play FF/CHF so better as a third forward option, the way Barker or Dixon bob up for Hawthorn. His inclusion may prove one too many forwards for defences to cover.
8. Robbins - can get the ball but questionable disposable (although nowhere near as bad as Shane Clayton). Has a bit of a dip.

Talented but slow as a glacier. No attitude problems.

Lord will probably nominate for the pre-season draft in December.

Thats a relief, I thought for a minute we wouldn't have the opportunity to draft someone of his calibre.

What's the point of picking up Cox, Poulton, Harwood or Collins when we have already picked up Bourke & waste another pick especially if we're going to re-draft Martyn. That means we might only select 3 young players in a deep draft & what a rediculous situation that would be.

I don't think we are really that far away from being a finals side at the moment, so there is no situation that calls for a full re-building with youth, with matured talent being ignored because of age. Martyn aside, the players mentioned above are all relatively young (Cox is the oldest at 24 and 10 months) and can give their new club 7 or 8 years, and 150 games of service WITHOUT the 3 years or so that most kids take to step up to regular senior footy.

I know we can only go into the draft with a finite number of picks, but if you're lamenting the draft pick that got away, don't look at one of these guys being a waste - look no further than David Bourke.

There is a difference between being a finals side & a serious premiership contender. We MAY have a team that MIGHT make the finals but definately not a team that will win the flag, therefore, I don't believe that we can waste another pick on a recycled. Cox, who people suggest we should pick up, was on the doggies list for years & is the type of player (tallish backman) that they've been searching for years. Stick with the kids. BTW I would prefer Cox to Bourke anyday.

Just on Cox, wasn't the perception that the Dogs backline too small and suddenly we are advocating picking him up in the draft. How is picking him up, apart for the experience he can bring, going to help our backline which isn't overly big itself. Has he grown a few inches over summer or something? How tall is the lad?

What is wrong with Ben Robbins?

He was first emergency for this years Premiers in the GF.

He is tough, hard at it and is by all reports a fantastic club man.

Cheers
