We will see how it goes.

Its obviously not a straight swap for the 1st.

You guys have come to late for the firesales though.

He's only played 30/49 games for the Giants in the last 2 years. Ongoing injury concerns would have to lower his value. He's a good player - I'd value him around pick 20 - but he's also uncontracted and you'll probably have to take any reasonable offer for him.

From what I've read, Smith prioritised Essendon for more midfield time and better rehabilitation facilities.
Not sure how hard GWS will want to defend their position given talk of salary cap pressure.
Only talk of cap pressure is on here.

Theres been no surprises etc.

Lots of clubs are interested though. He goes nowhere without the Giants signing it off, except to the draft. If it gets silly we can take a hit. I dont think it will, but the faux tough guy thing isn't likely from your negotiators either.

Good get by the Bombers. Stringer, Smith and Saad will add some quality, speed and x factor to complement their list. This kind of trading is necessary when you are on the cusp of pushing into the top 4.

If we land Smith, he could replace the solid bodies in the middle we are loosing...needs a little silica dust in his diet though

Feels good that we are a destination club again the last 5 years have been tough. also people seem to forget we lost quite a few good players over the last few years so it's great to get some back.

Even a Datsun needs to go to the mechanic occasionally.

Pick 11 won't be on the table, at least not for this trade as we will need some or all of that pick's value for Stringer. At this point, I'd offer our second rounder and 2018 third rounder or two second rounders with something back, albeit not much.

Can't imagine our 2018 first rounder will be involved at all, and can't see any players being involved in this one.

This deal will be the quickest finished of our three easily.

Will need to see how we turnover the 22.
Kelly and Watson already out
I imagine Bags, Colyer and Green miss out to Saad, Smith and Stringer
I reckon Francis is a monty for rd1 too.

That's 6 starting 22 players out.
We turned that amount over this year with Heppell, Hurley, Myers, Hooker, Colyer and Watson coming back in.

We will have pace that will be hard for teams to beat.
But we will also need to instil a bit of hardness around the ball.

Wouldn't mind seeing the likes of Zaka, Heppell, Parish, Myers & Goddard take to some boxing to harden the bodies and get a bit of want for body contact in their game.

What do Essendon fans think of trading picks 11 & 28 for BL picks 18 & 19? Assuming pick 19 is what we get for Rocky compensation.
Then use picks 18 and 19 for Stringer & Smith.
This is most likely
I think fair

Seeing as we need to get Saad as well I don't see how this helps us too much as our 3rd rounder won't be enough for him.

Why would the Bulldogs or GWS be happy to settle for 18 & 19 when they know you have 11 now?

Particularly in Stringers case, as he is contracted.

Dogs screwed their position on Stringer by publically bagging him (deserved or not)

contracted and publicly humiliated
bulldogs slit their own throats 18 is as good as they will get I guess but who knows?
Connors will not tolerate stringer going back to dogs after this especially when jake can get three years on more coin elsewhere

They screwed their position on him seeing out his career at the Bulldogs, but not in regards to what they see as fair compensation.

I'm just inviting people to see this from the other angle.

Pick 11 would probably be fair for Stringer and the clubs know it is currently available, so why would the Bulldogs be interested in stepping 7 places back in the draft just so the bombres could appease a Smith/GWS deal?

Of course, they wouldn't.

They wouldnt.
But clubs after stringer know he is in an untenable position at the Dogs. Weakens their position (we know, Hi Sunshine)

What doggies see as a fair deal will differ from what we see as a fair deal.

No doubt it will get sorted soon though.

I'll take this to the Stringer thread

Third rounder and next year's second for saad...finished 8th last year...youd expect to improve on that with these 3 players so pick would only be around 30.

Net result:

Out: pick 11, 28, 45ish and next year's second rounder (around 30)

In: stringer, Smith, saad

If you can do this I think you'd consider it a good off-season and reasonably fair for everyone.

It's not immaterial to the extent that it's existence can be denied.
It doesn't matter. It doesn't need to be denied. The idea that the Bulldogs would or should have any say on how the Bombers manage their own pick trading is ludicrous. The deal lives or dies on what's offered, not what is there now

Yep. Perhaps your mob will be the ones that walk away? Who knows.
