Did Sydney cheat?

He did get a goal from that and he shouldn't have been paid the free.

I thought the umpiring was terrible both ways. 10:2 Sydneys favor at the end of the first quarter with Hewett the beneficiary of 2 frees and 3 goals. 1 was just there from a sloppy Rockliff tackle the other looked a bit soft. Has a very similar style to Christensen from what I saw.

Evened up a bit after that and then stretchergate at the end. Terrible day for the umps in what was a good contested game of footy.

Hewett turned and lowered his body, not once did he bring his arm up to be coat hangered like Christensen does I think the comparison you are looking for is with Selwood and Puopolo for a Swans comparison sometimes McGlynn. I don't blame him for doing it either as it gets him free kicks. Umpires call play on and they all will stop. Watching the play from the boundary line right in front of me the Swans had the play covered and the likely result was going to be a ball up or ball in can't see what all the fuss is about. Will probably never know if someone actually took it upon themselves to use as a tactic. Commentators used to often suggest a team should call for a stretcher just to hold up play then the rules changed so the player couldn't return for 30 mins or something. Obviously that wouldn't have mattered here.

Longmire would have given the journos donuts had it been the other way around. Leppa just came across poorly IMO in the presser.

It's a real shame that the focus is on this moment and not on the game the Lions played as they were terrific.

Caught the bus home full of Lions supporters pretty upbeat as though they had won much like the drawn game a few seasons back. Living in Brisbane I always hope they do well being another team doing it tough in a State heavily dominated by League but the cheap shots in here sheesh.

Apologies to Taylormade for most of the rant was just responding on your Hewett opinion the rest was just thread opinion oh and 3/10 end of last quarter swings and roundabouts

I'm not sure if it's already been mentioned, but Sinclair didn't hurt his knee falling over...
He got up and then he was crunched by a second Lions player when he wasn't looking (possibly Darcy Gardiner?).
To suggest he was faking is a pretty harsh accusation to throw around in AFL. He was pretty ginger coming off.
Also he looked pretty bad immediately after, I doubt calling the stretcher would have been tactical.
I do think there's a grey area in the rules though....

Justin leppitsch accusing Sinclair of tripping over his own feet and getting cramps shows you how amateur this game is sometimes
He was bumped from behind by a lions player which should have been a free kick and for all the world looked as if he had done his knee

If he had gone off on the stretcher and then played next week people would have accused them of cheating aswell so good on him for running off the ground
Apart from a bunch of people sooking and an unfortunate position of the ball can't see much wrong with it

Yes.

Barry Hall should have gotten suspended.
They abused COLA for numerous years and then whinged when it was rightfully removed.
They played with an extra man once.

Oh the stretcher? Just another minor example ;)

Father sons have to actually want to go to the club ;)
Blakey is ours, now.:thumbsu:
True. But, IMHO, players who are eligible for preferential treatment under the father son rule should only have access to that rule. If they don't want to play for that club, they can go to the draft like every other young player.

The academies preferential treatment should be reserved for players that are in non-traditional pathways (the mere fact didn't play in Vic/WA/SA doesnt mean its non-traditional). This can't be said for Blakey or Longmire's kids who were always going to play football.

Blakey's kids are still in our FS Academy - so there is still hope. Horse's are apparently yours.

ETA: Reportedly, Gavin Brown's son is in North's Academy. If, as it is rumoured, he doesn't want to play for collingwood where he is eligible for father son selection, he will go to the draft. Which is absolutely correct because he isn't from a non-traditional football pathway.

Wrong Hewett was dropping at the knees and did it well. He should be called out for it just like Christensen is.

These arguments are pointless. It is an absolute crap rule. A hand accidentally touching a head is not dangerous and shouldn't be called out. It is so easy to abuse and all teams do it (some better than others). Why can't the umps take the intent of the tackler and the severity of the knock into account ffs??

I'm not sure of the rules around stretchers. If the trainer calls for it, play has to stop right?

You'd think if it was deliberate cheating Sinclair would have allowed himself to be carried off rather than jump straight up and jog off.

Strange incident though...
I seem to recall that there was a fine attached if a stretcher was called for but not used (this was in the 90s )

Far worse than Free kick Hawthorn but its Sydney so the AFL will be ok with it.

Except for the part where it didn't change the result of the game. Cool beans bro.

Utterly embarrassing comments from Leppa who clearly also missed that a free kick should have been paid which would have iced the game.

Literally impossible to abuse the COLA payment system - 9.8% loading on every contract. Just childish trolling after a bad week for the Hawks.

Next weeks game day threads should be interesting.

I am expecting to see a welter of fans disgusted in their own side when they claim they "touched the ball" that went through for a goal, or were "pushed in the back" or were "taken high"/"without the ball"/"I didn't drag it in sir".

I wait with bated breath for the sanctimony to flood forth.

Damn I am proud of my team that we are so clever we had a Cheaty McCheater thing no one has ever seen before ready to rock.
