Did Sydney cheat?

Justin leppitsch accusing Sinclair of tripping over his own feet and getting cramps shows you how amateur this game is sometimes
He was bumped from behind by a lions player which should have been a free kick and for all the world looked as if he had done his knee

c'mon mate its not like Leppa to go off half cocked....

There is little doubt that stopping the play suited Sydney at the time.

In my mind, it is important to know who made the decision to send the stretcher out. If it was a trainer tending to Sinclair, then it is most likely that the trainer was focussed on the injured player's welfare. If the decision was made from the Sydney bench, the motivation is more questionable. They knew Sinclair was down and it would be have been easy to say "get the stretcher out there!"

Finally, some common sense.

No.

A medical call was made on limited information. After review they attempted to get the player off the field in the most expedient manner.

Tin foil hats love anything which involves controversy.

If you are going to Troll at least be vaguely amusing.
Next time Saint Nick goes down injured, well the Saints be cheating if they call for a stretcher?

To be fair Swans definition of what is deemed "in play" or "behind play" has always been muddled. Like how when Barry Hall punched Goose Maguire from behind about 80m off the ball in 06 Elimination Final and they successfully convinced that was "in play" do he wouldn't miss GF... But they're not the AFL's lovechild anymore because of GWS...

Leppa's blow up was pretty funny to watch!

Not much in the incident - albeit a weird decision from the umps to stop play. If the Lions had been in possession and running at goal when play was stopped, it'd be an issue. The ball was sitting a foot from the boundary line and neither side seemed particularly keen to pick it up. A throw in was the most likely next action, so a ball up isn't much different.

I don't think you realize that all 18 players of the Sydney Swans made their way down to the defensive 50 during the time out for the stretcher, something that wouldn't have happened if the time out didn't happen.

I understand you're view but you need to realize you're a supporter of the club that has potentially done the wrong thing here, not saying you aren't entitled to an opinion, but naturally it's going to always favor your side.

What happened here was ridiculous and Leppa had every right to blow up the way he did. Horse would've done the same thing had it happened to the swans.

Someone posted earlier that the umps actually tried to stop the play earlier than it was in the end (when it pretty much looked like the ball was going to be forced out of bounds or balled up - we'll never know though I guess). Honestly, people are drawing a pretty long bow if they think it was a deliberate ploy.

If you've read any of my other posts you'd know I'm not as biassed as some fans.

The ball had been in the Lions F50 for about 30 seconds and the Swans already had about 12 players down there. Whether that ball bounced out for a throw in, was picked up and a tackle applied, or play was farcically stopped - the result was still basically the same. Yes, it was a silly decision by the umpires to stop the game with the ball in play and I think everyone agrees on that.

Leppa should have used that game as an opportunity to praise his side for a superb effort. He was always going to comment about it, but he could at least have done it in a controlled manner and perhaps watched a replay of the Sinclair bump prior to going off like a goose.

Spot on. Umps are normally extremely reluctant to stop play for injuries, no idea why they did so in this case. It's not a question of whether this cost us the game or not- we'll never know that. The fact that there's even the slightest chance that the outcome of the match might have been influenced due to this sort of error is unacceptable.
I think what gets missed in all this is how much Darcy Gardiner is a cheap shot coward but other than that "we was robbed" poor Leppa almost Scott brother worthy.
Seems relevant. Why so angry?

I guess if we're analysing dubious behaviour it's relevant to include Christensen's staged free kick for throwing his head back without a Swans player within arm's length. Won a free and kicked a goal.

I think there's an umpiring board for complaining about these things.

Oh, so the OP is completely wrong then? It was an umpire error?

All you squibs can feel free to apologise for calling us cheats now.

Mods can we get the thread title changed? How about "Sydney call for stretcher for injured player, umpires incorrectly stop play, Leppich makes an idiot of himself by being a whinging little sook and a lot of ignorant BF posters do the same?" :thumbsu:

Well technically this thread is about the umpiring in this particular game.

It's relevant because Gardiner's shepherd (which led to the injury, not Sinclair falling over in the previous play) was a clear push in the back, and probably further than 5m from the ball to boot. If Leppitsch wants to go on about incorrect calls surrounding the stretcher incident, and how things could've been so different if the umps had done the right thing and not stopped play, good on him, I guess.

But if the umpires had done everything right, the ball wouldn't have made its way down the other end of the ground - the Swans would've had a shot directly in front, and probably gone another 6 points up.

Like, I wasn't really upset about the missed call at the time, despite it being such a close game - umpires make mistakes and miss things. But given Leppa and some Brisbane fans are now flying off the handle over the stopped play call with some tenuous sliding doors stuff (let's be honest - the ball McVeigh and Hanley were contesting was a 90% chance to go over the boundary line), Swans fans are well within their rights to whinge about the hit in the back in front of goal that precipitated the whole shemozzle.

Honestly, the way people are carrying on, you'd think Christensen was stopped while he was 5m out streaming into an open goal face.

This thread has really dragged out the cream of the crop from the Sydney board, that's for sure

yanno, minor incidents no one gives a shit about vs something out of the ordinary like this.

Maybe you missed it, but we've got a mainboard thread which really belongs on Bay 13, with the title "Did Sydney cheat?"

I just thought a troll response was the only way i should be posting in such a troll thread? :thumbsu:
