They had a down year in 2017, but they were a much better side than their record suggested. Injuries, veterans traded, bad start to the season. Despite the slide, they had some major scalps and had a really good finish to the season.

After seeing them dismantle Collingwood tonight with that textbook hawthorn crisp ball movement, I'm thinking perhaps Hawthorn is the true sleeper team of 2018.

Perhaps Clarko's system can come through with the goods once more.

I would describe their win over Collingwood tonight as 'clinical'.

    Surgeon-like precision.

Nah their coach is their best player. He’s carrying the side as soon as he goes hawks go down the gutter. #hawksonemanside

All I learnt tonight is that in true Buckley fashion, he handed another 3 votes to Mitchell

Its round 1 and Hawthorn put away a wooden spoon contender

If they beat Geelong in round 2 then a chat might happen (although if they lose to the Demons tomorrow....... Geelong may as well be a 2018 wooden spoon contender as well).

As much as I'm happy about our win tonight. We played Collingwood...a undermanned Collingwood too.

We could easily be 1 and 3 after our next 3 weeks. Geelong, Richmond then Melbourne. We will start underdogs in all 3. Wait until a month or so into the season to get a read on us

Hawthorn along with Sydney were the hottest team after the bye last year.

Very unfortunate in the Geelong and GWS game. In a 6 week span they nearly beat Adelaide, GWS, Geelong and Sydney.

They weren't even that good tonight. Pies were gash.

But they will be more competitive this season.

Beat a bottom 4 side. Hard to read into anything until we play Geelong, Richmond, Melbourne etc

We are well coached and have some elite top end, but Hawks of a few years ago would have won by 75+ tonight. Still very much in a development period this year

They won one football game against a frequently Septemberless team. Let’s take it easy.

Said this before the start of the season but if the hawks don't win the flag this year it'll be one of the biggest chokes of the modern era. Right up there with 2014 Swans.
