Do Collingwood need to enter a rebuild phase?

Good to see you enjoying this thread mate and we know everyones opinion is wrong and only yours is right but the general feeling amongst us nuetrals is the Pies need to start a rebuild ASAP.
Yeah.

The feeling from the neutrals is that the Pies should have started a rebuild after the 2021 season.

That would have been awesome...

Tell me why Collingwood's 'issue' is so 'serious', when they have contended for a flag in 3 of the past 4 years, and you're simply hypothesising about their future?

It's serious, guys!
I've already gave my reason in here mate, maybe a couple of times.

You keep saying that but Pendlebury was only 34 then and Sidebottom only 31 and Howe only 31, do i need to go on?

Yep you have based around a strong core of now close to the end players.
While this core was there it was seen as an attractive place to join.
Not so much looking forward now.
Close to the end of their careers, you're talking about Pendles Sides and Howe.

Yeah, you're right the cupboard is bare after that, well there's Naicos but that's it. Nothing in between.

Hasn't been anything there since I dunno when. Funny how we won a flag with those wheelchair dwellers and only Naicos, everyone was vfl level at best - even the captain (who's not at the end of his career btw) and beat arguably the best list in it that year. Yeah miracles do happen don't they.

After that we did get one big fish in Houston, dunno why, I mean as you say the place wasn't attractive after we won that flag. What a d/h for coming to the Pies!

"Neutrals"?

Can there be neutrals in a Collingwood thread?

People telling us "no success without the draft" but we have used the draft as intended, to trade as well as recruit.

We've topped up with mature recruits like Hawthorn Geelong and Richmond did. Apparently this is a recipe for failure because Brisbane, but I don't see the draft gluttons making the final 4.

Look I don't hate Collingwood at all really but, this year was really their last chance.

Even if De Goey comes back to life, which he could, I can't see them making Prelim weekend again. They're certainly one of the more organised teams to play against.

Elliot Crisp also nearing the end. Yep you won a flag but as you know the end comes quick.

Selwood and Ling both played great GFs then walked away as they knew it only gets harder.

That’s not the question though is it.
As it is now going forward Collingwood need to somehow get young top end talent in.

Yet they're still performing, the same was said about Pendles and Sides in 21 22 and 23, yet still going strong.

Billy and Crispy still have a coupla years in em yet.

Yeah, it has hasn't it.

You're clutching at straws for reasons for the Pies to fail, I get it, you want us to.

Like 'there's no one but old folks home Pendles and Nick, that's it that's all you got' mantra.

I remember this young bloke called McCreery when he first got the club, absolute spud, then the club developed into a cult hero.

There's probably other examples, and not just at Collingwood.

But that won't happen again because as you know most who make AFL lists are absolute list cloggers most of the time so there's zero chance any of the young Pies come good.

The way you see things is if the young talent isn't world beating potential by the noise then they'll never ever be, particularly Collingwood coz Collingwood.

History is full of players that look ok being 17-22 on a good team.

Wrong, Collingwood's challenge going forward is finding some additional top end AFL quality players to add to the Daicos Bros and crew

Talented Coates league kids are not the only answer (and majority don't make it anyway)

"Now"?

We have been dancing on the cliff edge like an ergot affected mountaineer for 5 seasons.
In 2023 Collingwood were the 4th oldest list in the comp.

Yep talking the last 25 years at least. You need to go back at least 10 years to get a fair look at draft picks and how they turned out. Melbourne's rebuilds since making a GF at the turn of the century have more often been poor then not. A lot of high draft picks for little return until they got a few goodies going between 2009 and 2019. Even lately I'm a little worried that they have gone full North with the rebuild. Never go full North.
I thought Grawn was later then 34 but even so 34 was a 3rd round pick in 2009.

So is half the comp.
You guys will be fine I just didn't understand the dig at Hawthorn which wasn't relevant to the discussion.

If I remember correctly it was a hawks supporter saying something like " in 2026 they will be bottom four". My response was a tongue in cheek response about how the hawks won't be that bad until at least 2028. Just a little banter on my side.

Dont worry lads

Just rebuild and in 8 years time you can be making finals and getting knocked out in straight sets just like Adelaide. It will totally be worth it
Your arguments are the dumbest.

It doesn’t take all teams 8 years to rebuild.

Look at Brisbane, bottomed out in 2017, were playing finals 2 years later.
