...your headlights?

Back in the day it was normal to flash your headlights like a mad man when you saw a speed camera. Now it seems to be something of the past. I still do it but rarely get an acknowledgment. If someone does give me a flash I will acknowledge it with the customary one, I repeat, one finger off the wheel wave.

However I will not flash a driver if he is flying through traffic at a ridiculous speed, generally I will just have a chuckle at myself.

Bring back the flash I say, bugger the revenue raisers, they do not need the cash.

Yes, I did just recently get done for speeding ;)

Yep always flash. I'm surprised how many people no longer give you the wave when you let them in front of you.

To not be accused of taking it off topic :p – I flash my headlights as well.

How do you do this at night? Because when you have your head lights on you don’t want to flash your high beams as that blinding

I'd rather be blinded then cop a fine, or in my case loss of license.

Pet hate
( one good turn.... )

Remember my old boy telling me a story where he flashed the beams for oncoming traffic.....and got pinged by an unmarked :(

Let's just say the copper let him off with a warning....a STERN warning

Yeah I flash, but agree seems a thing of the past now to flash other drivers, I think they are sneaky pricks so the less revenue they get the better, the roads we drive on for all the fuel taxes, rego and fines are deadset shocking:thumbsdown:

IMO theres a difference between speeding and getting caught doing 65 in a 60 zone.

A person doing 65 in a 60 zone, sure they maybe technically over the limit, but I don't think their purpose is to kill people.

I'm sure people doing 160 in 60 zone aren't intending to kill people either (most IMO have the childish attitude of 'It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt').

Most people know these days if they go past a safety/speed camera doing 65 in a 60 zone, they're gonna get caught. Therefore, the logical thing to do is just stick to the speed limit. If you choose to go over, no matter by how much, then you get what you deserve.

Some speed limits are ridiculously low. At Golden Grove going down the hill to Salisbury you have to ride the brake the entire way down. Speed cameras are always placed at the bottom of hills or places where they can gain maximum revenue not stop accidents. If the were used more wisely and we had realistic speed limits I would agree with you. But as it stands it is blatant revenue raising and I am proud to be a flasher.

Agreed - I spot a ridiculous amount of cameras stationed at the base of hills. Shits me greatly.
Try to flash whenever I can, and always reply with the finger wave.

To go off topic, I am sick and tired of the amount of scumbags who have no idea how to merge, or just completely lack any courtesy in doing so. It's a ****ing basic skill. Why the hell does there constantly seem to be a 35 year old trophy wife in a brand new mercedes right on my flank until the very last ****ing second, when I'm clearly in front, have got miles of space behind me and signs everywhere warning of the oncoming merge? Seriously - I can do it without almost pushing the guy in front of me off the road or into oncoming traffic. Why can't you? All it takes is a little bit of awareness and a little bit of courtesy and we're all happy. I'm very close to becoming Michael Douglas in Falling Down over this sometimes.

Valid point there - some speed limits on some roads are ridiculously low eg Commercial Rd in Salisbury being 60 km/h where there's a school and shopping centre, yet lowers to 50 km/h when there's a couple of worshops and nothing.

Though sometimes I also wonder why a speed camera is placed on a major road during peak hour when everyone's doing 35 km/h in a 60 zone anyway due to the traffic.

We can agree to disagree on the flashing thing though :)

Amen to that - or when you're in front and you merge in front (as you're legally entitled to), and you get fingers or a horn blast (I've found the best way to deal with that is ignore them - I do the same to tailgaters and 95% stop tailgating for some reason - it's funny watching people get worked up over their silly mistakes while I travel along relaxed and peacefully).
