I have a friend who follows the Corws so I've seen a number of your games this year and it appears especially of late you guys are really missing a multiple goalkicker.

This leads me to my question - do you guys miss Scott Welsh?

The guy can kick goals and has been suprisingly durable this year and looks like he would of fitted in nicely in the Crows forward line this year. Also, it appears the Crows are really missing a true goalkicker (especially since the Birdman went down).

I wonder if Craig had his time again he'd sign him to a 2 year deal.

Anyway, food for thought.

No, don't miss him, bit sporadic with his form and getting on in years. Very much glad he left, as it will help us in the future.

What he has done for you this year he would have done for us just the same, but we need to turn over our forward line instead of relying on a couple of 30 year olds.

Yes and no. He's a great player, but horribly inconsistent. He would have some great games, but then others you wouldn't even know he was there. By the sounds he's having his most consistent season yet which is great for him. Thing is, is that his leaving has allowed us to blood some other youngsters, who whilst may not be as good as him now, will actually take our club into the future, something Scott wasn't going to do.

We miss him when we lose ...most notably in the first round heartbreaker against the Bulldogs.

He and Hudson are in for a house of pain from their former fans in a few weeks time :)

It seems it's more of a short term pain, long term gain line of thought. I agree, if your team isn't seriously going to contest the GF, you might as well blood youngsters and off load older players (where necessary). Just thought he may of been handy given the injury to Birdman and your lack of goalkicking forwards.

hehe...actually, I think you guys miss him more since the Birdman went down. But the last game of the H&W season should be a cracker. :thumbsu:

Would have been handy no doubt, make no mistake, we have missed him this year, but as you say, for us this was a rebuilding kinda year and making the finals were not the only goal. Next year, when some of our young forwards start getting some games, he will just be a distant memory.

Kind of hoping you guys are sending over your second 18 since you are assured of 2nd or 3rd anyway. Any chance?

If we played you next week or the week after maybe as Rocket has said he wants to rest some of the 'sore' older players. But the last game of the H&W season I doubt he'll be resting anyone . Either way, it should be a good game.

My thoughts exactly 'junktime king'

Did kick a lot of these types of goals, but did also kick some crunch time ones like in the EF last year, last quarter he nailed a shot from outside 50 with maybe 10 mins to go to put us in front I think. There was also a couple of time last year when he kicked goals in the final quarter to either put us in front or at least steady us for a 2 or 3 goal win.

Must admit he hasn't kicked too many 'junk time' goals for the Bullies this year. He has performed better than I expected.

Welsh was a junk time specialist at the crows...he may have kicked other important goals, but the first is what he'll be remembered for.
funnily enough, he used to be one of my favourite players (back in the Vardy days), and Ben Hudson also used to be my favourite player, but i don't miss players that want to leave. i move on, just like the club has.
...i miss Mattner's hard tackling, but that's about all i miss from past crows.

Miss Ben Hudson a lot bloody more than Welsh!!!!!!! :(:(

Has genuine talent and finishing skills, something sadly missing on the crows forward line for the most part this year. I miss him, but would not have missed him as much if we were going to give a young player a go in his spot, like Walker.

not at all he will go on holidays come Sept

Only if he performs again next year. I cant deny he would have been handy up forward but who knows. I still think next year will see a return to a similar pattern of his career. Not that it was bad, but a little more consistency would have been nice.

Its probably to simple to say we could have done with him.. He was good for us but he would have taken up someone else's possie in the forward line. He wouldn't have been the difference between us beating Geelong or not this year and I guess thats all that matters for now..

No one else is going to win it and yet we get to be competitive (ish) while we rebuild and develop a new forward line.

Next year will be awesome, potentially Walker, Sellar (I still have hope), Porps (fully fit), Hentchel and Tippett.. There are others too but i think that is enough to keep us smiling for a while.

I think it was the right decision to let Hudson and Welsh leave, as our list was getting way too old.
Just dissapointed we didnt get a better draft pick for both.

what a silly question.

we have no forwards, at all, and you ask if we miss a 50 goal lead up forward?

of course do, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
