Don't smoke myself, but the way some people bang on about smokers makes it sound like they've ****ing r*ped and murdered enormous amounts of people. FFS give it a rest people, who gives a shit if someone wants to smoke.

First year of uni I smoked socially for about three months, then jumped in the pool and had to stop to get my breath after two laps.

Never again.

Although, I do think smoking is really cool and wish it wasnt so bad for you because I'd definitely take it up. Love having something to do with my hands when surfing the net, writing or drinking.

because 15, 20, 25 years ago everyone did it.

like drink driving in the 80s, it was a done thing and societally acceptable.

Nowdays, with all that we know about smoking, why do young people (those born from the mid-'80s onwards, who grew up with anti-smoking campaigns, graphic Quit ads, etc.) still take it up? What positive benefits does it have for them? May as well burn a $20 note every time you buy a packet of cigarettes, as you're not gettng anything good out of it IMO.

smoking is disgusting can never understand why anyone would do it

This. I don't get it. It's an extremely dangerous habit with absolutely zero benefit to those who do it. If you're going to kill yourself, at least do it with alcohol or weed where you get to have a bit of fun first.

You could take that analogy further and say that after you've burned the $20, you start to burn a hole in your side.

lolz i have once..... but can't say it turned me onto it-more like the opposite. I had the cool idea to talk to the dudes who hang round the back gate of the school, to cut a long story short, they were telling me how fun it is to smoke and i wanted to shut them up so i did it. it made me feel sick, I then walked to the bathroom, induced some vomiting and bought a lemonade to make me feel better. yeh, don't think smoking is my thing.

Nah, pointless. you pay $15 for stuff that will kill you.

Don't know how people get addicted to that shit.

This is pretty much me.

First few months of uni would see me smoke fairly regularly whilst drinking, but after one night when a few of us decided it'd be a good idea to share a packet between us (hardcore, I know), it put me off for life.

Just like dem aidz! Why are young people still having da sechs pre-marriage?

Fools, they may as well just burn their pen0rz

I shouldn't bite, and I don't want to derail the thread, but I have to nip this in the bud - Please quote the post where I said that people shouldn't have sex before marriage (an institution I don't even believe in, by the way), or shut up about it.

Never had one and would like it to stay that way. Although, I don't go around displaying my disgust or questioning those who do.

Filthy habit. I watched my grandad die of cancer / emphysemia. A very tortured death. Directly related to his smoking. My mum was with him when he drew his last breath.

It wasnt that he couldnt breathe in, he just didnt have the lung capacity to breath enough air out, so he kept on getting shorter and shorter of breath.

I've got good mates that smoke, i tell them the same thing.

I will add that my grandad was a world war 2 veteren. Other than his lungs his body was very fit and wirey, very strong. He tried riding a pushbike when he was 60 odd, his lungs wouldnt let him.

If he didnt smoke, im dead certain he'd be alive today with all his facultys, doting over my daughters.
