Do you speak any languages?

I was wondering whether many people on Bigfooty speak a language other than English. I can speak a little Spanish, but aren't fluent and learnt a bit of French, Latin, and German at school.
I wouldn't mind taking up a language course soon, I'd probably like to learn French better. One day I hope to be able to speak 4 languages probably English, Spanish, French, and Italian.

I only speak Italian, and while I'd say its OK, it isn't really fluent.

I'd love to learn Spanish, Portuguese and Arabic. I love the sounds of all those languages.

Got by in Spain and Argentina due to Italian and Spanish being somewhat similar - wouldnt mind learning Spanish one day!

I can speak french fluently as I have a french mother and also learnt it more at school. Started learning Italian in Melbourne in yr 6 but most of the time it was an italian cooking lesson!

Yeah same my folks are French. I Can understand it, speak it fluently, and read it. My writing isnt that good. But i still get by sending letters to my relatives

I can also speak a little Indonesian. I learnt it in school from Grade 4 through Year 8, so I understand it, even if I have forgotten how to speak it!

I learnt German at High Skool but I also learnt a few words off my Granny, dad and my relies!

I aslo can speak a bit of Polish as I have a Polish Father and most of his side of the fam all speak polish.

BUT I can olny speak basic in both of these Languages!

I speak a smattering of German, about good tourist level. I was chatting up this (v hot) chick a few months ago at the pub and I was talking about going to Europe and you know, which countries I liked, so I said Germany, and one reason being I spoke enough to get me by.

So sure enough she says something to me in German and I have no idea what it is. Like not one word. Get her to repeat it, nothing. So she thinks I'm a complete fraud and was just tryoing to improess her and got sprung--which was not the case at all.

I voted for French because I learnt it for 5 years - although I'm not fluent and can't understand it when it's been spoken very quickly.

As for Chinese, I don't think you could call that a 'language' - the only 2 dialects they speak in China is Mandarin and Cantonese, right?

If you had said that last year, I could have translated it. I learnt French for 5 years at school, but stopped this year (Year11) and my fluency has plummeted. Pretty much all I can remember is comment t'appelles tu? I spose I can remember a bit more

I also speak fluent crap.... but thats just another story!

IMO Languages at school are a bit of a waste of time, I had to do Japanese in Year 7 and all we did was learn how to say hello, goodbye, pets and colours. Whats the point of going to Japan and the only thing you can say is "Hello, I have a blue dog"
