But like mark of the year hey.The rising star is so open to a Betting rort.
You could get $4 for Mcgrath last year the day before it was awarded. There is no official voting critera, just a bunch of ex players saying "I think this bloke".
It has also been plagued with a number of contentious winners that do not necessarily reflect the public opinion.

Doedee not a rookie because he wasn’t drafted this year.Ben Simmons
Think Witherden will be overlooked as he made his debut last year.
Rising Stars won by club:
Brisbane Bears/Lions: 4*
Collingwood: 0
Hmmm
Or lewis taylor better then BontShould have an asterisk next to it, no way in hell was Chris Scott a better player than Corey McKernan!
You say that but Collingwood has more players nominated for the award than any other club but has never had someone go on to win it. So the fact a Collingwood player has been nominated is hardly a certaintyStepehenson plays for Collingwood, big vic team, it’s in the bag.
He certainly does get a lot of the ball.Witherden with a lazy 31 touches today. Keeping himself in the running. Although its Stephensen out on front for mine.
Maybe a bit one eyed but surely the fact Stephenson is in his 1st year and Doedee is in his 3rd year comes into discussion. Yes he may not have played a game but thats still 3 pre seasons v 1 + just being in the system for 3 years is an advantage. Doedee is a fantastic player already no doubt but obviously my vote goes to Stephenson![]()
He certainly does get a lot of the ball.
Relies heavily on his ability to get it on the outside (only 2 contested possessions yesterday) but decent young player nonetheless.
How many contested?25 of the 31 touches in the second half
How many contested?
In first year players, I'm looking for things that excite me long term, so week to week consistency is not as important to me as potential ceiling.Just quietly, Ronke is just as good as Stephenson...
Those big hauls were also in games both under 10 points. Adds much needed pace and pressure to a slow Sydney side. No doubt both will be exceptional players but Ronke will be a superstar. Just so quick, and his defensive pressure is what is outstandingIn first year players, I'm looking for things that excite me long term, so week to week consistency is not as important to me as potential ceiling.
Ronke has two match winning hauls of 7 and 5 goals already, and it's not just the amount of goals, it's the quality of those goals. Ronke is every bit as exciting as Stephenson for the future. I could see Ronke becoming what Shaun Higgins could have been if injuries didn't stall him during his 20s.
If I had to take one over the other, I'd draft Ronke based only on what I've seen so far.
