Does Cyril Play?

Sorry, but not playing Cyril on Saturday is unfathomable. The man is more than fit to play; don't be fooled by what the club is saying and how his hair looks. Look at his body: what does it tell you? It tells me he hasn't been fishing in the NT or playing Grand Theft Auto V these past three months.

The club has given his hamstring more than ample time to heal (and hopefully calcify), while designing a training regimen to preserve his strength and fitness base.

Sitting on top of all of this is the pain he would still feel over his performance in the 2012 GF. The 2013 flag was only partial atonement for him and his teammates. This is one of those rare opportunities for redemption, and Rioli is one of those rare players who has the power to just go out there and grab it.

I'm firmly in the yes camp. And sub is fine with me as well. Cyril is much more dangerous sitting on the bench waiting to be let loose than he is sitting in the stands. If he comes on late in the 3rd/early 4th and breaks down that is manageable.

Just get him doing run throughs past the swans bench all day ought to scare the crap out of them.

Strategically it is an interesting proposition as well. If Cyril is sub Smith goes to Bruest. What happens if Bruest gets hold or Smith again and then you introduce Cyril as well? What happens if Bruest is quiet, Cyril comes on, Smith moves and Bruest is let loose. Lots and lots of permutations

No.

You can't take unfit players into a final.

Stevie J wasn't fit against us.

Hodge wasn't fit for the 2012 Grannie.

My head says no, heart says yes and GFs are won with both!

Without all the medical/fitness info in front of us its too hard, but I think we would have all liked to see more from him last week going 100% repeatedly.
Anyway I think Clarko will make the right call with all info at his disposal and will trust that.

Whilst I'm leaning towards hoping he plays, I think if you "looked at his body" on the bench (and during the Phil Cleary interview just after he came off), he looked pretty out of breath and not overly match-fit. I think that's what people are concerned about.

Anyways, I'm putting my faith in Clarko & the Match Committee - let's see what happens, eh?

I CAN'T ****ING WAIT!!!!

I think the main problem with Cyril is that he himself doesn't trust his hammy. After watching most of training today, I'm less convinced than I was that he can play. During the game simulation work, he seemed to be at 85% effort at best when required to run. Very tough call, still think taking the pressure off Breust might be worth the risk of playing him as a permanent forward, but he seemed to be designated as a mid in the game practice today. My concern with him in the forward line is that if the opposition works out he is unwilling or unable to run at full pace, they'll be able to exploit it, and generate run out of defense via Cyril's direct opponent. Obviously the selection people have a lot more details on his condition than we do, so I'll be happy with any decision they make.

Stevie J was injured. Cyril is not injured. There is a massive difference.

Sure Cyril is not match fit, but reality is we have no idea how fit he is. He has been training for weeks. What intensity we do not know. He might be cherry right and they have been holding him back for this game all along. He might be 75% after a number of setbacks we do not know about.

For mine the risk is not abut his fitness, the risk is about his hamstring blowing up again.

If they want to run off Cyril go for it :D

I still think play him and let him run riot in the f50. Cyril at 85% will still catch most of the Swans defenders and put pressure on them. Forward pressure will play a huge part in this game in my view -
a. Sydney defenders are not great one on one, but they operate extremely well as a unit when they can organise and use each other in defense. Pressure the kick out, intercept and bang it back in quickly will leave them isolated far more often than they would like. Locking the ball in to our forward half puts pressure on them but it also slows their play out of defense if they revert to a marking game out of the d50, very big benefit for us.
b. Cyril in will free up Breust. He is a maestro at manufacturing goals for himself but also for others. If he is free, Sydney are in trouble. Smith would have to go to Rioli if he played, Smith has a great record on him.

Hopefully he is fit enough to pressure the hell out of the defenders, if he is anything we get offensively is a huge bonus.

Yes and no, I see what you mean but Sydney generate their attack through Mal and Shaw so we don't want that happening with ease. We will be in a bad way if those 2 can link up out of defense. Bigger trouble than they would be in with a turn over I think.

I really want to see some of Cyril's tackles in the GF... hard, fast and tough! smashes in and freaks everyone out!

Manic pressure like last years GF! we will win if we can do that again!

Yesiree bob. A few big Cyril tackles early will make a difference. Who goes out though is still a tough one. I don't want to go with Simpkin out, he is too good as a sub

Just saw Cyril at training and he did nothing special. Like all his team mates he went at three quarter pace.
I assume his hard-at-it training occurred behind closed doors earlier today.

I'll give it that he is a good sub, but I don't think he did enough in the Prelim. Yes he had 8 possessions... but were they any good?? didn't help stop their momentum at all.

It is sacrilegious to suggest the Chosen One should be left out.

We've waited long enough. Surely we shouldn't have to wait another six months before we see Cyril in action again.

My heart says he should play. And my head is inclined to think the same way.

In terms of hard luck stories, Simpkin out would be a lot easier to digest given the fact that he plucked a flag from nowhere in 2012. Ceglar would have good reason to be gutted as would Spangher.
