quite frankly i wouldnt mind having him on our list, but is it really worth it.
im not really sure about his playing style, but isnt he generally a forward, that plays up the ground and can go back if needed? can somebody please correct me if im wrong.
this will just end up creating even more of a crowded forward line, what with buddy roughy williams and rioli.
so yeah, i dont really see why hawthorn is chasing him, why not spend time in trying to get a quality main defender.

As Clarkson said after their win, they don't think they've skipped ahead of Geelong by anymeans - ie they still need to improve. Getting O'Keefe gives them additional depth, and allows for Roughhead to go back to CHB in some instances. They've got a late first round pick and alerady have so many young kids trying to crack a game next year (Tuck, Bailey, Dowler, Muston etc.) so they can afford to...

Is there any thought that Hawthorn want O'Keefe so they can fill the key defensive slot..........with Roughead? Maybe Franklin, O'Keefe, Williams and Rioli (and potentially Brown) is just as hard to match up on and pwerful overhead, and a little more mobile into the bargain. Ideal with the rolling zone, while releasing a big man who has played in defense before to go back there.

Still have Thorp coming through so O'Keefe's longevity isn't a problem either.

Roughead stays up forward

With more delievery he could potentially kick 100 goals himself (75 goals this season playing as the second string forward)

If anything recruiting O'Keefe allows us to push Brown back to the backline.

If he signs, he'll be vital in terms of adding to our stock of versatile players, ie players who can be effective at either end of the ground.

When you look at what won us the GF, this would be a massive get.

Why would Hawthorn Go After O'Keefe

When they have Mitch Thorp and Beau Dowler at box hill as potential key forwards. Bewildering!

He will fit in nicely in any side, Hawks obviously don't NEED him but they should and do still WANT him. I'm one Carlton supporter that would go all out to have him for the few years, he could be a great asset to making us a premiership team.

No, I think hotdish is right.

Croad is unlikely to have much of a preseason so Roughy is the guy to go back.

If the wage reports are accurate (???) it is a very good get.

exactly, he is a great player and i think every side would love to have him. but he is not a must at hawthorn and that is y clarko wont be offering want okeefe initially wanted.

O'Keefe would mean that Campbell Brown could stay down back.

He is a top player and any team would want him.

Hawks would dearly love a big defender but no team is going to give one up with trades.

Don't need, but would love to have:thumbsu:
Our forward line would almost be like cheating if we got ROK :D

Oh Judd off. We still have Judd envy. let us get over that then post this rediculous comment. As previous poster said, he is ideal for our rolling zone and can play midfield, wing, fwd, back etc. A grader for a steal. If it happens.

Ps: If anyone thinks our list is complete they are kidding themselves and that includes Hawk fans. We're only a couple of key players going down and we may even struggle to make top 8. Ok I may be exaggerating a bit there. But sh#t happens and each year everyone is on level terms. It doesn't take much. Geelong are probably the only shoe in for top 4.

ROK is one of the first chosen each week at the swans. he is a vital part of our team . and still a required player . So the swans need to deal with a team that can provide a decent trade to us .
i think that the Hawks fit that part.
also i think ROK would fit in at the Hawks . He would be a very good addition to the Hawks squad.
i am resigned to ROK leaving the swans, but good luck to him as he has given us great service.
as a swans fan i would prefer the Hawks got him rather than the Carlton or Collingwood.

you don't need him

but he will bolster your versatility

he can really play any position.... and if you place him up forward, you may throw roughie into defence to support croad

He might be a required player but he's also uncontracted, so you may not get as good a deal as you'd hope.

I don't think they really need him, but structurally I think people are getting it wrong when they give the reasons.

He's not really a KPP. He's very strong overhead, but is renowned for his huge leads which will often have him in the area of HB - HF. The Hawks won't need to play him inside 50, so what it will allow is for Roughhead and Franklin to both remain close to goal with O'Keefe as the lead-up HF.

It does give that flexibility to free up Brown or Roughhead for defence too, though I would say Brown up forward is looking quite set with Ellis stepping up a notch and Hodge moving back.

Doesn't mean the Hawks should bank on raping the Swans. Would much rather we got screwed by losing him for nothing to a Carlton or Essendon than bending over backwards so that the Hawks get him for a packet of peanuts. Which is what Hawthorn seem to want to do.

FWIW, O'Keefe shouldn't really be thought of as a forward. He's not going to get in the way of Buddy, Roughhead or Williams. He's really more of a wingman and his value is his ability to get the ball inside the forward 50 quickly and with penetration. He's not great at pinpointing passes but if the ball is moved quickly and the Hawks have Buddy or Roughhead one out against their opponents, he'll give them a dozen chances a game to win a one-on-one marking contest in front of goal.

And he's not just an outside runner either. In the last couple of seasons he's really upped his tackling and ability to get in and win the hard ball too. He's not a Judd, or Ablett or Franklin but he's a pretty complete, hard-running, contested ball winning, strong marking, long kicking gun.

Damn you O'Keefe:mad:

He'd be a great pick up for any of the clubs, however notwithstanding his versatility and flexibility, I'm surprised that Hawthorn's trading officials have targeted him over a developing key position player in the early-to-mid twenties.

Apparently last year Clarkson had to push hard for Stewart Dew because there was a determination to recruit young talent and yet now Pelchen is looking at topping-up the side with experienced quality like O'Keefe.

Additionally, Hawthorn has stated it didn't want to trade its first round pick (16) and yet it would be seemingly virtually impossible to retain pick 16 and also recruit O'Keefe.

They probably don't need him but they've just snagged a flag, it's probably a 'gamble' they can take. It's not like he won't improve them in some way, he's quality, you can never have too many quality players.

O'Keefe would be the cherry on top. He is a fantastic player possibly going to a team right in the middle of their premiership window and he already has a Premiership under his belt. If I were a Hawks supporter I'd want him.

Think of it this way. Who would you rather a spot on your list?

O'Keefe>>>>>>>>>>>Dawson
