Hey fellas...hope you dont mind me intruding on your board, but I went today and thought id give you a bit of a review on how your boys played.

You looked very good. Especially across the midfield. Your midfield was extremely strong and easily defeated ours (altho ours was undermanned). You always had 3-4 small guys seemingly at every contest and pretty much every time easily ran away with the ball. You looked very confident. Brown domianted up forward - mainly against Kane Cornes. It shows, if anything, that Kane Cornes is not the sort of player to play as the main small defender as Brown was regularly 2-3 metres ahead of him on the lead.

Ill give a bit of a player review...not sure how accurate it is as i wasnt overly concentrating on the bulldogs players that much.

Alvey - did some nice things and had a reasonable amount of the ball

Bandy - played ok in the ruck and reasonable up forward

Bassett - spent time on the bench, but played in defence mainly when on the ground. Did ok, altho the ball didnt reach him very often

Birss - a very impressive first half

Bowden - spent the majority of the match on the bench

Brown - 7 goals. He kicked 5 on Cornes in the first half....went out of the game, and popped up for 2 goals in a minute late in the last quarter.

Darcy - played very well in the ruck.

Dimattina - looked alright. Got a fair bit of the ball

Eagleton - had heaps of the ball...gave it up a lot, kicked a magical poster. Same old eago really.

Faulkner - looked impressive. Seems to know what hes doing. Had all up about 25 minutes on the ground

Grant - dominated at half back

Harris - big lad. spent some time in defence.

Johnson - one of the dogs best i thought. probably 2nd behind brown

Murphy - played a very good defensive game

Smith - had his usual controlling the play type game backwards of centre. Ran forward a few times and had a few shots on goal

Wiggins - had a few nice marks but kicks awfully. Had about 3 or 4 shots from about 35-40m out and each kick was a shocking helicopter wobbly thing that went about 25 metres.

I'm not too worried about Wiggy's kicking, it's usually pretty good (refer his goal from the boundary, 50 out last week). I'm excited that he is actually getting the thing.

sounds like our boys played pretty good, and helped each other out. If only they had of done that last week. But oh well, hopefully we will be playing in melbourne next week.

many thanks Macca19

I only hope we can repeat the dose on you in the real stuff.

Good luck in 2003 and I look forward to a pre-game discussion on the merits of why our teams will win when that time comes.

Chris Grant’s dominance at centre half-back and Nathan Brown’s seven goals from a forward pocket have lifted the Western Bulldogs to a 35-point win against Port Adelaide in a Wizard Regional Challenge Series match at Nuriootpa’s Centennial Park on Saturday.

The Dogs set up their 15.14 (104) to 10.9 (69) victory thanks to a five-goal spurt with the blustery wind late in the second quarter.

Grant had much the better of former Kangaroo Stuart Cochrane and Brown beat off two opponents – Kane Cornes and Jared Poulton.

Centre half-back Matthew Bishop and forward-midfielder Stuart Dew (three goals) were Port’s best.

The Dogs were without Simon Garlick, Scott West, Jordan McMahon and Steven Kretiuk from their regular side, while Port was severely depleted without Matthew Primus, Darryl Wakelin, Brett Montgomery, Damien Hardwick, Adam Kingsley and ace forwards Warren Tredrea and Chad Cornes.

Bulldogs coach Peter Rohde described the win as “a good step in the right direction.”

"We’ve had a very good pre-season and we really expected to play well last week, and we didn’t – we were disappointing,” he said. “Given the circumstances – and they certainly had quite a few out – we probably did as much as we could have on the day.”

“It was a step down the right path but we’ve got a few more steps to take before the season starts.”

Port coach Mark Williams described his team’s first-half as “pathetic.”

“We certainly didn’t give value for money for the people who came. I thought the second half, we did OK,” he said.

Williams was critical of the AFL’s decision to revert the Wizard Home Loans Cup from a round-robin to a knock-out system this year.

“When you’re knocked out and (have) to play three more games, it’s a joke,” he said.

“I found it pretty hard to get players up for today’s event.”

“We know the next two games will be pretty serious about establishing your position and showing you’re right for the first game.”

The Bulldogs play Essendon in Bendigo next Saturday while Port will tackle Fremantle at Subiaco Oval. The Power will then be back at Subiaco against West Coast on 29 March in the opening round of the home and away season.

Williams described it as a “taxing ask”.

“In the scheme of things, our club has travelled to Perth twice in the last four years and to not have to do it in the home and away season (this year) we thought, well, there’s been some consideration given to us,” he said.

But it’s two out of four weeks we have to go to Perth and that’s a bit strange.”

“The ideal situation would be to have a round-robin. I’m sure if the coaches were asked, they would have said exactly that.”

I wish i was there! it sounded really good.

It's good that (according to the bulldogs pathetic site) Chris did well. i hope he can keep it going during the season!

Browny...well you all know what i think!

Robbo...good to see he's got some confidence since that bloody collarbone.

I hope we do better in rd 1 than we did last weekend v the cats!

I pick Robbins to have a top five finish this year in the Charles Sutton Medal.

Good to have a win, though. It seems we played well.

Who do we have next week, folks?

Damn straight.
Looking forward to the game.
Hopefully (being two Victorian sides) the game is close to home.
