BULLDOGS
Well its our turn to go on the hardest trip in afl, to the gabba.I think we will put up a good fight, and if we win then it would be a fantastis effort from the boys, considering how many injuries we have.
Hopefully it will be a good game to watch, and not just a one sided game.
With alves, and robbo out, id bring in gilbs, and harris.
Anyway hope its a good game, and lets just hope we dont get anymore injuries from this game.

B: Hargrave Croft (Lynch) Harris (Bradshaw)
HB: Smith Bandy (Brown) McGuinness (Notting)
C: Murphy West Johnson
HF: Giansiracusa Darcy Bowden
F: Skipper Brown Garlick
R: Bruton Hahn (Voss) Cross (Black)
I: Dimattina Gilbee McMahon Bassett

If Kretiuk is fit, he should come in for Bassett.

Bruton will ruck less than a half unless he is doing particually well, otherwise is off the ground. Darcy goes into the ruck, Bandy back to CHF, Harris to Brown and Bassett to Bradshaw.

Dimma to give Mitch a cop out on Voss.

Agree Jim except for a few match ups.
Bandy is not strong enough for Brown, not many players in the comp are. I would put Croft on him,Harris on Lynch,Hargrave on Bradshaw,Hargrave is actually taller than Bradshaw.
IN BRUTON HARRIS GILBEE
OUT POWER ROBBINS ALVEY

I just want the guys to take another step forward this week against a team that will go down in history as one of the great sides. Apart from 15 minutes in the third quarter and ten minutes in the second they did OK.
Don't let the media and Sheedy cloud the situation by saying Essendon had 10 players who have played less than 50 games and that they were the underdogs. We had 12 players who have under 50 games and this week if Kritta doesn't return ww will have more.
Rohde and the boys have to go to the Gabba with the intention of winning the game. It will be tough but they can't afford to concede the game and look to future games.
The club should also promote Boyd to the senior list now that Alvey is gone and Robbins' injury is more serious than first thought.

Why drop Bassett? If you sore the preseason game v Brisbane Bassett did a great job on Lynch!
If we could only play Kruitter on some his size, he wouldn't get injured as much and can shut them down.

Again what has Bruton done to deserve a game? If we wanted someone with size Wiggins is the better option.

With Cross's size he will get slaughted agaisnt Brisbane's midfield!

Your backline looks top heavy Jim. Can Garlick play BP?

Changes for me

Harris, Boyd(subject to promotion if not Picken), Kritter, Gilbee
Alvey, Robbins, Power, Hargrave

All valid questions and I have my own concerns about them, but we're running out of options.

I've not been impressed with Bassett at all. To me he seems to short and not strong enough for a KP and too slow for a smaller opponent. I can't see how we could play both Bassett and Krusher together and I would choose Krusher every time. Bradshaw is one bloke Bassett could play on, but will Brisbane even bring him back after Brennan's debut?

Bruton would be getting a game under false pretences but if he could hold his own against McDonald, Darcy could do some damage up forward.

Cross is light but could run with Black. Remember Romero learnt how to find the ball by running with good players. I like Cross because he goes hard at it.

Garlick is worth a try in the back pocket. I went with Hargrave because of a good job he did on Farmer last year. He is capable but I agree not playing as well as he has. If Robbo was fit I would have dropped Hargrave.

Basset never gives in, competes in every contest until the ball is won, he is a good key position backman for us, and with the injuries we have, how can ya even suggest to drop him.

I am feeling stupidly optimistic about this game, and wouldn't at all be suprised if we came away with the 4 points and a 5 goal win...

Me to!!! go doggies :)

The jury is out on basset. he showed a bit of grit and backed himself more against essendon. remember, every AFL game the guy plays is significant experience on the 15 he came to us with. He is almost a raw recruit! We cant afford not to have tallish mature bodied player on the bench at least.

How well we do against brisbane depends on which team comes to play. the richmond/melbourne team or the geelong/essendon team.

I would play croft on Lynch because he still needs more fitness and Mr CFS wont be leaving the goal square much.

I would play harris on brown. just shadow the guy wherever he goes and call it a win if they both get 3 touches each.

We will miss Robbos drive (and kicking) out of defence and I dont know who to replace him with. Most of our harder nuts have poor disposal. Gilbee is our next good kick from the smalls, but we might need him on the wing.

Again it is the midfield we really have to worry about. Tag Voss with Dimma. Let Westy and Black go head to head. Would tagging Ackermanis with MacMahon be out of the question? he has the acceleration to keep up with acker. Hahn, guido and Johno need to pull out big games, and Murph needs to dominate his wing. Darce needs to assert his superiority.

out: robbo, power, cross, alves
in: harris, kritter, gilbee, wiggins

Someone mentioned Garlo as a BP. Thats got something going for it. Hes a fair judge of the flight of the ball in a marking contest, and doesnt shirk.

disposal is a worry.

Heres my changes:

Outs: Alvey, Robbins, Hargrave, Cross

Ins: Gilbee, Kritters, Wiggins, Boyd

That is a good point stefoid, Bassett hasn't played many games...it is easy to forget.

Jim440...are you serious...play Cross on Black, a brownlow medallist...i don't think so!!!! Someone in another thread suggest playing Eagleton in the back pocket. What has gotten into you people??? I know with all our injuries, things are getting a little desperate but geez

Kretiuk, Gilbee in
Robbins Alvey out

I'm not sure its time to drop Power or Hargrave just yet.

Does anyone know when Harro will come back from injury?

Harrison should be right this week and it is a Sunday game so he has an extra day just to make sure. Its all hands on deck against Brisbane so if he is right he should be considered.
I must admit in the last few hours reading people's posts I have warmed to the idea of Boyd being promoted to the senior list and straight into the side.
If Kritta is fit he is a guaranteed inclusion, Gilbee has to come in, Harrison for insurance just in case our defence is getting smashed. Brian Harris?
My main match ups
HARGRAVE V BRADSHAW
HARRIS/KRETIUK V SNOOZY DRUG CHEAT LYNCH
CROFT V BROWN
GARLICK V L.POWER
SMITH V NOTTING
HAHN V VOSS
MURPHY V AKERMANIS
DIMMA V BLACK
GIA V LAPPIN

Our Forward Line

F BROWN MCGUINNESS SKIPPER
HF JOHNSON BANDY/DARCY GILBEE

Brown,Johnson,Gilbee all have to do their time in the midfield so plenty of rotating this Sunday.

I agree with someone...

Crossy on Black. And why not. To be the best you need to beat the best, and the only way he's going to do that is to play on the best.

He would get belted...good way to lose confidence. You need a little experience at least. Cross may have played a few games but his total game time would not be much at all. Murphy now has some experience and now has the confidence to play on the likes of Yze and Hird. The same happened with Gia, after he'd had some experience he got jobs on a few of the good players in the comp.

How can you judge someone if you haven't seen them.

You've seen Crossy, but have you seen him on Black? How do you know he'd get belted? Where does this presumption come from? Just because he's young doesn't mean he couldn't beat him.

It is possible, but unlikely. I guess where i am coming from is that experience is a valuable thing to have, as is confidence and i think you need both to beat the best players in the competition.

And how does one gain th experience of playing on and beat more highly fancied opponents if he plays on spuds his whole life?
