Who do you think will win it this year?
If the vote was taken now i think Steven Dodd would be well ahead but because he is injured i think he might only be top 5. Due to this i think Roger Hayden will win it and Grover will be a close 2nd with Bell in the 3rd.

Pavlich has been our best player and will win it in a canter.

Expect Hayden, Headland and Solomon to finish highly and Bell, Tarrant and Grover will be in the top 10 as well.

Very true but the best player doesn't always win the Best and Fairest, for example Glass won it last year at WCE when Kerr and Judd almost won the brownlow

What about Solomon - the only player who shows no fear every week. Except maybe for Bell. Whether that counts for any votes I don't know, but I do know that if there were more players with that commitment and courage, we wouldn't be in the position we are now.

Agreed... how good is Solly? And to think fans wanted him dropped earlier in the season

I think Johnno was third place? (too many drinks!) there was a heap of fourth finishes including Josh Carr, Solly and Belly.

Peter Bell DID NOT announce his retirement. *fingers crossed*

The club announce the creation of the Con Reagan award. This award was given certain criteria and will not necessarily be presented every year as the criteria is pretty strict.

The inaugural winner was Chris Connolly! Brilliant choice IMO.

I do like the way the voting system works. I'm so used to seeing a 5-4-3-2-1 system no matter what happened during the game.

Not sure if it has been mentioned here before but the Doig voting is

4 - Outstanding effort
3 - Excellent effort
2 - Very good effort
1 - Good effort

At the end of a game there could be 10 1's and a couple of 2's etc. There were very few 4's and that's the be expected after our finish this year.

News
Fremantle Captain Matthew Pavlich has claimed his fourth Doig Medal as the club’s best and fairest in season in 2007 with 29 votes finishing five votes clear of Antoni Grover with Luke McPharlin finishing in third place on 22 votes.

Pavlich capped off another outstanding year that saw him earn his fifth All Australian selection after booting a club season record 72 goals at an average of 3.4 per game. Pavlich kicked his 300th career goal in round 19 against Essendon. His 22 games in 2007 continued his consecutive games streak to 144, having not missed a game since round 15, 2001, and his career tally to 175 games. This season Pavlich led the AFL in marks with 203 at an average of 9.2 per game and collected 381 disposals at an average of 17.3 per game.

It was another outstanding season for Pavlich, his first as captain of the club. His win in the 2007 Doig Medal is his fourth medal having won in 2002, 2005 and 2006. He becomes the record holder for most Doig Medals having shared the record previously with Peter Bell who won in 2001, 2003 and 2004. Pavlich also received the runner-up medal in 2003 and finished in third place in 2004.

Runner Up
Defender Antoni Grover was rewarded for his outstanding season receiving his first Doig Medal as runner-up to Matthew Pavlich, his first top three finish in the Doig Medal reflecting a consistent year in the club’s defence, failing to poll a vote in only six of his 21 games this season. Promoted from the club’s Rookie List, Grover made his AFL debut in round 21 1999 against Sydney at the W.A.C.A ground. He has gone on to play 129 games for the club. This year Grover averaged 13.5 possessions and 4.6 marks per game. Grover earned his first WA State of Origin selection in 2007.

Third Place
Fullback Luke McPharlin also claimed his first Doig Medal in 2007 finishing in third place with 22 votes.
McPharlin played 21 games in season 2007 to take his tally to 101 games for Fremantle and 113 AFL games in total. He averaged 14.1 disposals and 7.2 marks per game and despite playing most of the season at fullback, again showed his versatility when moved forward in the round 21 match against Melbourne, his 100th game for Fremantle, kicking 5 goals to take his career tally to 68. McPharlin was selected in the 2007 WA State of Origin side, his third selection after also being selected in 2004 and 2005.

First Place Matthew Pavlich 29 votes
Second Place Antoni Grover 24 votes
Third Place Luke McPharlin 22 votes
Fourth Place Peter Bell 21 votes
Roger Hayden 21 votes

2007 Beacon Award Winner – Robert Warnock

The annual Beacon Award is presented to the club’s best new talent. To be eligible, a player must be under the age of 21 years on or before 31 December of the previous year and have played less than 10 games at the start of the season.

2007 Best Clubman Award – Heath Black

2007 WAFL Recognition Award – Andrew Foster

Leading Goalkicker – Matthew Pavlich

Past Players and Officials Award – Robert Haddrill

Doig Medal Voting System
Votes are awarded by the Match Committee at the conclusion of each game based on the following scale:

4 Votes - Outstanding
3 Votes - Excellent
2 Votes – Very Good
1 Vote – Good

Votes are awarded on each player’s individual performance in a game. As a result every player is able to receive votes if their performance is assessed by the match committee as being good, very good, excellent or outstanding. That is, in any round, more than one player may receive one, two, three and four votes.

Oh what a hack, good effort from Dessy to finish in the top 10 in a B&F for the first time in his career. Has he not missed those 4 games would have most likely finished 2nd so shows how good his season was. :thumbsu:

Good work DJ, keep it going in 2008 and beyond.

Past players and officials award??? Whats that all about. Obviously from the title its awarded by officials and past players. But what is it recognising?

I assume it's awarded TO past players and officials for service to the club. Like the old gold watch when you retire.

I guess it's an indication Haddrill won't be on our list next year?

Please say it's not true

"I read on fridgeland that the club have introduced a new award in honor of the great man Con Regan. The Con Regan Medal will be periodically awarded to non-playing individuals whose contribution to the Fremantle Football Club has been significant, has added to the club culture, has had an impact on the wider community above and beyond their duties, enhanced the FFC's reputation..............fair enough you will say. "

Inaugural winner Chris Connolly!!

Fits all the critera by any standards. Well deserved IMO.

Agree 100%.

Dragged this club up from the mire by the scruff of its neck, sold it to the punters, raised membership from 25,000 (ish) to 43,000... changed supporters expectations from "I hope we win a couple this year" (2002) to "We expect finals" (2004 onwards) to "We demand success" (2006) to "anything less than a GF is not good enough" (2007)...

His efforts in changing the face of this club and the expectations of the supporters unfortunately were what contributed directly to his downfall.

And then in the end, he fell on his own sword to minimise the disruption to the club, to allow the club to move forward - and he did it so that his dignity, and that of the club, was left in tact.

Class individual who did more for this club than any other individual in the club's history, and I think he deserved the award well and truly.
