You couldn't work out that I was indirectly referring to Thomas in particular?

Not when your next statement is actually what you think.

Drew Petrie also missed a shitload of gimme goals too. Even Boomer did. Plenty of room for improvement from everyone.
Nice comparison between a guy kicking 48.41 and winning games while missing a few from 40-50 meters out to a guy kicking 21.36 with 10-15 OOF and at least another 10-15 failures to make an easy distance while regularly missing shots from 15 meters while costing games and in the end finals. But some easy stats in a dead rubber against Richmond is enough to derail 2012 according to the minions of mediocrity board.

Don't know enough about the draftees to name any, but we need midfielders with pace IMO. Probably a tall defender, seeing as we can't seem to keep them. :)
And, as I posted elsewhere, so-called mature recruits would be handy; I'm talking ala Michael Barlow, 20-23.

Personally id love North to find a Gorilla forward. None of this lean leading junk, someone with power and attitude. Screamed to trade McIntosh to snag Hurley, although happy with Atley really wanted Darling 1st pick last year. Would have thrown the house at dawes. Dont care about off feild issues want on feild performance.

But 99.5% of North ppl will say outside mid flanker, blah blah yawn.

Does that mean Fevola?

Unfortunately with a quality football culture comes responsibility. Too much of a sook and key figure to punt on for such a short time. If he was a CHF it could be worth the punt to make North interesting again and less predictable even to North supporters.

McIntosh wouldn't have landed much on the trade table after the year he had, plus Scott would have been reluctant for another under-achieving senior player to perform at another club.

As for needs, after last years draft, this draft was always going to be about a key forward. But it's possible if no decent key forwards are around, bundling any of McIntosh, Hansen even throwing in Thomas to upgrade a pick next year could be an option to land a decent first round forward.

North's defense is interesting, would hardly surprise anyone if that delisted rookie from Hawthorn became North's best defender in a short time. Certainly need another defender with decent disposal and even another with any amount of pace. McMahon, Thompson, Firrito, Hansen certainly doesn't scream premiership and even without Rawlings butchering, the defense is on the flaky side if entering a finals series.

Forward line needs a CHF obviously, a high profile player wouldn't hurt but seems more likely down the track. Astute coaching in 2011 having Lindsay Thomas miss goal after goal and put the season on the skids by half way. Club really is starved of x factor, when they're stuck using xxxx! factor. Can only hope North set a higher standard in 2012 and give themselves a hope of being more than mediocre with a slight chance of a highlight.

Midfield could do with another outsider as Wells, Harvey isn't a heap to hang your hat on (injury, age). Need to balance the deep extraction/average disposal of Swallow, Greenwood with 1 more genuine classy midfielder.

In no particular order, need a Key forward, outside midfielder, quick half back, tough back pocket with good disposal, quality finishing forward pocket.

Until the coaching staff put themselves on the line and take some risks/set a benchmark/expected level the club will remain mediocre. There's not many on the football department that would easily find work elsewhere so there's a fair amount of self preservation going on.

As far as I see, if Thomas continues to butcher opportunities, Hansen does stuff all and the defense keeps plodding and butchering the ball, it's the fault of the weak coaching panel who have over used their own personal scape goats.

Fremantle needs are as follows:

1) Key position defender
2) Key position forward
3) Rebounding small defender
4) Lockdown small defender
5) 2nd dangerous small forward
6) midfielder

Though i think we have a season or two before any of our needs are absolutely essential. In fact i'd be tempted to upgrade the small defender roles to our most pressing need. I'm hoping we can develop them from within but the players which should be successful in this role seem to get bags kicked against them.

We have plenty of ruckman and midfielders, though you can never have too many top quality midfielders.

I remember Essendon were doomed to years down the bottom post Lloyd, Lucas, Fletcher, Mal Michael. They were criticised for drafting smalls when they 'needed' talls. It basically took 2 drafts and their tall stocks look in good order. It's helped by the fact Fletcher lives forever, they even had some high draft pick sgo bust but still look solid the key position talls area.

Fremantle could easily defer recruiting talls for another draft without too much consequence. Preferably i'd like us to go tall with 1-2 of our top 30 picks. I wouldn't be surprised if we've got someone like Zac Dawson lined up for the PSD.

Port needs midfielders, midfielders and midfielders. Wouldn't say no to some midfielders either. Centre square mids, accumulator mids, line-breaking mids, we need 'em all.

But no midfielders who are good at winning the contested ball but crap at everything else (e.g. Waldhunter from what I've heard). We already have enough of them.

Dees are reasonably well balanced with the list, but could go a few more quality Mids, and a small forward or small defender.

We probably won't find quality Mids with pick 36 in this draft so I suspect we'll address that with our 3 first rounders next year.

Maybe a couple of pacy smalls who can tackle and find the goals - plus a late gamble on a project type this year imo.
