I don't see a thread for this and I think it's a fairly good idea.

I'm in the process of slowly constructing a phantom draft, but I don't want to look like a schmuck by giving teams players they don't need. This thread is to compile information for mock draft writers (and others) on various clubs' drafting strategies for 2011.

What sort of players will your club want to draft? A ready-made player or a project player? Mids or KPPs? Inside or outside?

For example, for West Coast I think we'll be interested in securing a KPD, and a small forward perhaps later in the draft. What we won't be after is a half back, or a ruckman, or an inside mid unless he is a gun. Just throwing it out there. Could people use this thread to give their opinions on their clubs needs? Cheers in advance.

Good idea.

Without knowing anything about the quality of this draft other than reading a few phantom drafts the lions are after KPP's. With Fev and Clark gone and then Brown close to retiring we need key forwards and we also don't have a genuine CHB. We currently have 1 ruck on the list but I think some of that will be sorted out in trade week. The lions last year were considering going for a tall with their last pick instead of Green before it was known Fev and Clark would no longer be on the list so with that in mind, I think we will use 4 picks and it will be 1 midfielder and 3 KPP's.

Personally id love North to find a Gorilla forward. None of this lean leading junk, someone with power and attitude. Screamed to trade McIntosh to snag Hurley, although happy with Atley really wanted Darling 1st pick last year. Would have thrown the house at dawes. Dont care about off feild issues want on feild performance.

But 99.5% of North ppl will say outside mid flanker, blah blah yawn.

Good idea for a thread. You don't need to select on a needs basis but if a player of similar ranking comes along teams go for the player they need more.

High End Attacking Midfielders - Every team needs them and if one is available at 23 Westcoast should pounce.

Offensive Forwards - doesn't matter if they are small/ medium. Forward potency might not have been an issue with our fantastic press but we would have done better if we had more class up forward.

Tall forwards - We having Kennedy but beyond that we have Lynch (average and ageing), Wilson (Undersized and Linear), Darling (is he a KPF, midfielder or third tall?).

Developing KPD - If the right one comes along at 23 Westcoast will consider them. With Glass coming to the end we need to develop another KPD. McKenzie, Brown and Schofield are ready too step up but we will need more depth.

Late/ Rookie ruckmen.

EH would you consider Mitch Grigg a high end attacking midfielder? Seems to be slipping in the latest few phantoms and would like us to pounce on him with 23, perhaps picking up Lockyer with 28?

He is mostly inside but possesses something we lack in the middle - elite footskills.

jesus we'd like abit of everything, however our most pressing issues are

KPP: More desperate for defenders than forwards but we dont have many / any young, quality stock coming through on both fronts

A quick, lock down small defender with good skills

Clean inside midfielder

I'd say the small defender could be sourced through a mature age WAFL / VFL etc player

Do the majority of Docker fans advocate McInness @ 16 then?

Bump. It's starting to get into 'Phantom Draft season' mode so I think we should keep this thread going.

Post trade week strategies and expectations will have changed. For West Coast, another pick in the 20s may allow us to use one pick on the best available and another for a needs based selection (our only two picks that'll be used). Similar to 2009.

For North I would try and draft a quality KPF (A power forward type to replace Petrie). However I doubt there will be one available at 18 given GWS will no doubt load up on talls.

So next best would be a HBF. McKenzie would be my choice at this stage.

blues should go for KPF with 22 and a inside mid with 44 then Buckly with 66

Definietly a project ruckman to add to our depleted ruck stocks - Bolger?
And probably key position forwards as we just lost a couple in trade week - Dobosz?
Possibly a ready made mid that is right to go next year - Ellis?

We (NMFC) have a need to address the successon plan for Petrie over the next 12 months to give us 3-4 years to develop a replacement. I'm not sure what the KPF depth is however, so I'll be happy with best available player regardless of type.

We are pretty well stocked with young KPDs so I'd assume that we'd over look this type unless they were outstanding.

Pies will go with best available given their picks dont kick in until 50 or so. They would surely be keen on a KPF at some stage but the quality ones will be gone by then and they are just as likely to use the Rookie to take one that slips through.

I can't speak for the rest of our followers, but if mciness is best available then yes.

Me personally, I think we need to draft a kid who will be able to develop into a
(Andrew swallow type). Pick 20 , KPP would prefer a forward but defender will do.Pick 29, key forward or back or a small lock down defender.

Would probably go with at least one ruckman, preferably a project and a mature back-up. Key forward, definitely after trade week. And probably an inside mid.

Kersten if hes available for Freo, then Best Inside mid the KPD

If bondy & lloydy deem kersten best available then so be it.
Reading other mock drafts it's looking like best available is gunna be a mid.
Either way the top 30 is considered pretty strong, stoked we have 3 picks in the top 30.

I feel we need KPF's more than KPD's but we do need KPD's so if McInnes was available @ 16 then I think he would be best available and would be very happy if they grabbed him.

We do need players in most areas but with our top 30 picks I think we should get 2 KPP's and the best mid we can find in the top 20.

Our two picks:

- KPD

And

- mid/mid-fwd with pace, run and carry or elite footskills. Not inside. I. Smith, Steven Hill etc.
Or
- small fwd/mid-fwd with pace, roving abilities, marking strength no so important. Betts/Ballantyne etc

Not:
- inside mid
- small/medium defender or mid/def
- ruck
- key forward
- mid sized marking forward
