Is Watson a chance as a leading forward?

He's tall. He's strong. He averages 5 marks a game. A good kick.

SOS was used to devastating effect at FF on occasion...

He has played forward at times for the Cannons and done quite well but I don't think that he will spend much time as a forward in the AFL.

Fox takes a speccy
Law defended the idea of rolling out the top picks from 10 to one, rather than the traditional way of the No. 1 starting proceedings. It is designed to add suspense and stop the picks after No. 1 from losing their impact.

The reverse countdown will work because the top ten will start with the GC and end with the GC.

I can't imagine the suspense waiting for the Suns to take their next free kick.

Getting excited about Thursday night as it edges closer. :o

It feels like we're counting down to Christmas and unwrapping the presents that are already under your tree. I just hope we don't unwrap a bike that needs to assembled by the coaches. Or we need to send Ratten out to buy batteries that weren't included with a dodgy toy.

Thanks. People compare him to Hurley but Hurley has spent time forward too.

I just think Watson won't be the 22 game first year defender some are suggesting. Stints in the forward line may be the way of allowing him to adjust to the intensity and speed of AFL - an option who can kick goals from outside 50.

I agree, he may not play all 22 games if drafted but he certainly has the body shape and strength to do it. He needs to slim down which will take a preseason or two so it will be interesting to see if he gains more agility from that.

Maybe I undersold his ability to play forward but I haven't seen enough of him as a forward to comment. I have only seen him play as a defender and he played a commanding role and geez that left foot is a weapon.

At least he didn't start an utterly pointless and irrelevant thread on the wrong board.

Bad poster is this Thy man.

I'm sensing a void developing between myself and all things Andy Collins.

As for Thursday, I sort of enjoyed the Saturday internet streaming thing or Huddo on SEN. Still, as long as Splendini gets things right we might shortly be the proud owners of a couple of brand new 200 gamers. :thumbsu:

No pressure here Splendini, all we want is a couple of 200 gamers. Deliver or pay the consequences...;)

Mitchell's hard road to draft day
"We focused on a lot of speed and power along with the technique of running. I just tried to put the best people around me and that worked really well," Mitchell said.

"It was pretty tough at stages, but I had a few goals in place that we'd set up and I was pretty adamant that was going to reach them. It took a lot of time, but I didn't really lose much concentration throughout the process."

Mitchell worked extensively with Stawell Gift winner Adrian Mott among others and impressed Cannons regional manager Ian Kyte with his attitude throughout.

"I know [Cannons coach] Martin Allison gave him some tapes of Nick Riewoldt last year and he became very good in that type of role," he said.

"He's a fantastic build now for an 18-year-old lad, but you might find he'll go to an AFL club and be stronger, but lighter. I think he's going to be more of a running, leading forward who gets up the ground like Riewoldt than a pack-smashing power forward like Brown."

Mitchell looks and speaks a bit like Simon or Justin Madden in that interview.

Might slide into the number 25 if we draft him.

Watson into 14 if we get him.
