In alot of way's I'd prefer someone who's a natural footballer who could kick and handball onto a coin rather than an athlete, though some pace would be nice.

Yeah I agree. Whilst he's still young, a good size and improving, he's still got a lot of work to do.

Carlton would look at guys like Talia and McKernan, and I'd be happy for them to be part of the Sauce trade if the trade was fair and equitable (draft picks required to even the trade out).

We have one or two too many KPP's with good currency and we can afford to offload one IMO.

Forget Talia and McKernan. Seriously, I wouldnt straight swap either of them for Sauce. Im sure Rendell wont either. Last year Rendell rated Mckernan as his greatest ever pick in terms of value.

Billie Smedts came top 10 in kicking test, sprint and agility. don't know anything else about him but thats an interesting mix.

^ Interesting, considering we got Otten.. a runner up rising star, in the 2nd round.
Otten was rated as around the pick 25/26 mark. we got him at pick 27.
My point is that is how high he rates Mckernan.
i think McKernan was overrated in his draft (because of his name) and everyone thought he'd go late first round or early second round. we got him at pick 28, which i think sounds about right. Rory Sloane was our bargain pickup that year at 44.

Jed Lamb has also set a new record in the kicking drill. As a flashy, half-forward with a good kick, he will be closely watched as well.:thumbsu:

Sellar & 3rd is unlikely to satisfy Carlton.

Some people on this board are seriously delusional about Sellar's value, given how little he's shown at the senior level (and yes I'm well aware of the arguments about him being played out of position).

While I agree with the bolded points, Carlton would be nuts to turn that package down in favour of trying to prove a point by letting him walk into the pre-season draft for nothing. Its not unreasonable in the realms of Collingwood trying to screw Port over Stevens or something like that.

Big H says there's about 50 good draft prospects.

Is impressed with the speed of the mids, clubs will walk away from DC with greater hopes in the draft.

Team of 6 at the combine. They're all impressed with the types of kids, good lads. They were having dinner and Neil jumped onto a table with 6 or so kids to just have a chat (they would have been thrilled).

They probe pretty hard with leadership type questions. Neil gets into the questioning. He thinks a small team works well, less opinions from those who haven't watched the kids.

No player this year, as we exited early, players are on vacation.

While the kicking results are nice, they're not fantastic in game representations. You get 5 points per kick, you loose points if you fumble, three on your left, three on your right, short medium and long (longs only about 40.

Things like loopyness etc don't come in, but all the recruiters are aware of it.

This isn't a knock on JEd either, this guy would kick hundreds of footys at the goal after trainings.

NC: Hey guys!

Players whispering: didn't we just finish an interview with this guy....

Other player: yeah, all he did was ****ing 'knock knock' jokes. What's he after now?

NC: You didn't hear them all! Knock Knock! and so on....

i had the exact same thoughts... nice.

i dunno about anyone else, but i always (in the spackler scripts anyway) imagine that neil craig sounds like murray from flight of the conchords...

Assuming the crows keep pick 14 chances of Prestia, Caddy or Lamb still being around? Need endurance but a good kick is better than being able to run all day.

I'd say one or two will be available. I had lamb going later but given his kicking score at the combine he will probably shoot up a little. Prestia has done his chances no harm. Definite first rounder probably in the mid to late teens. Caddy i don't know a heap about tbh.

Caddy's name has been around for a while, same kamakazi style as Danger came right up in the new handball test at the Draft Camp -refuse to call it combine - that's something to harvest wheat.

Lamb sounds like a gun, bet port take him.

Jed Lamb sounds like a perfect option for our 2nd pick if he's still there.

I'd love us to go into the draft with both #14 and the Bock compensation pick.

Edit - hell, I'd love us to also hang on to our second round pick. Let's get hold of three great midfield/small-forward options.

i think it imperative that we hold onto 14 and at least one other... seem to be some good players around that will fill a need for us...

At this stage we have the pick before Port. Whether we get Lamb or not is likely going to be up to us since he'll probably be picked up around 15-20. There are queries over his ability to become a legit AFL midfielder - right now he thrives up forward and plays a leading forward role where his pace and goal sense are on show. If he can take his game and move it onto a wing or in the guts, he'll be a seriously good player. That makes him a slight risk, but what you're getting at the minimum is a very classy forward option. Plus he can kick straight in front of goal, which would be a nice change for our team.

I'd love to have him, but at this stage I still think Prestia is the way to go. I'm confident he will last to 14 and he is a genuine midfielder. His clearance work is some of the best in this draft and though he's small, he has pace and the ability to break lines. He's probably not going to be a star but he's pretty much the exact player we need. Others I wouldn't mind taking would be Caddy and Guthrie, both of whom I rate highly. Brodie Smith could also slide here but I have serious doubts. Even if he did though, it's not really like Rendell to pick the obvious so we would probably end up getting Prestia anyway. :p

Sound thinking. From what I've read, this draft pool-even with Suns ripping the guts out of it is pretty good. Clubs are looking at more mature 21-24 yr olds playing in state leagues that could come in straight away if needed and the wow of Barlow and JPod. That means more chances of getting a quality mid with 14. Caddy ran under 3 seconds for 20 m sprint so for an inside mid he has the jets to get away.

Just keep the 14 pick. Anything else up on the table.
