Why are so many people infatuated with picking up other clubs sloppy seconds. If they were any good, they wouldn't be delisted, especially from crap clubs like carltank.

Re: Carl Peterson

this smells alot like jeff kennett's influence on the playing list. from a premiership to a laughing stock in 2 years. new world record?

hmm

won a premiership 3 years ago, made the finals this year....

us on the other hand

I know what memories i'd rather have of the last two years

Don't forget, we finished 11th this year and should be lauding praise upon Neil Craig for getting us in such an enviable position.

Re: Carl Peterson

New South Wales Scholarships. ;):thumbsu:

Will you be placing them on your senior list, or taking them in the rookie draft? If it's the latter, they don't fill any of your vacant spots, they're effectively "free" extra players.

Unless you feel they're likely to play next year, surely you'd take them in the rookie draft, where they don't count towards your maximum list number. I know that pick 120 or so is not a very desirable pick, but surely it's still better to make that pick and place a scholarship kid on the rookie list than to take the scholarship kid and not have the guy at pick 120?

The only justification I can think of for doing that is to save on salary payments, or, as I said before, if you expect the scholarship kids to play next year.

All 4 of them have fairly big wraps on them. None may get senior listed, but expect 2 to play at some point in the season.

My point was, even if we do just rookie them, we may use those latter picks in the draft on a Myles Sewell or a delisted player.

Here's a couple of links of him from the U18s a couple of years ago...

ex South Australian, out for most of last season with a hip injury
good kick and has nice speed about him...
def worth a rookie spot i reckon!

I heard Jordy Mcmahon talking on 5AA earlier in the week, and he stated that he'd moved back here. Is hoping to get drafted by one of the SA clubs, any interest for a rookie list spot?

I hope that was a joke if not ...

Card BACCS.

It's astounding that Richmond paid a top 20 pick IIRC for Jordan Mcmahon. Hopefully Port pick him up, would be great news for us. But a SANFL club is more likely IMO

His Bulldogs career wasn't that bad. The way he performed at Richmond (which wasn't bad for the first year or so either) seems to gloss over that. Ever noticed how many players careers go down shit creek when they arrive there......

I probably wouldn't take McMahon but I reckon it's a decent idea to take a more 'experienced', mature age player with AFL experience as a rookie. Our list isn't exactly filled with a heap of hardened bodies with AFL experience- we lost well over 1000 games of AFL games from retirements this year... that is a bloody shitload! I think Dogga is now our most experienced player with 180 odd games? I think it'd be smart of us to take a guy in the rookie draft who could fill in and do a solid job if needed who has had previous AFL experience.

Leigh Brown has thrived in his third club... he's really started to actually show why he was a first round draft pick. I'm not saying McMahon might do the same thing but I think we need a guy who can step straight in and fill in a few holes if we get a few injuries.

It is a massive slice of experience gone from the club but I hope we don't try to fill the hole with a stop-gap measure. I would rather we accepted that 2011 was going to be a frustrating, inconsistent season with some younger players filling roles they aren't quite ready or mature enough for. But 2011 should form a solid grounding for 2012-14 when (hopefully) we can push deep into finals.

Its as if im seeing chris knights when he first came to the club.
Wouldnt mind another chris knights on our ist.
If we can get him on rookie would be great.
20 year old, coming back home.:thumbsu:

Completely agree. I thought the exact same thing when i saw those highlights on youtube.

Here is one worth thinking about, former basketballer Joshua Jenkins
Mainly played as a ruckman since giving away the hoops, spent time with Townsville Crocs. Blitzed the state screening.

20m: 2.91
Stand Vertical: 75cm
Run Vertical: 93cm
Beep: 13.3

All that and he is 198cm, not 200cm according to this video

Worth a rookie spot at least, maybe even late in the National???

I doubt Adelaide will be drafting any ruckmen in 2010, certainly not in the ND and almost certainly not in the RD.

We just traded for Jacobs. We also have Maric, Moran, McKernan, Sellar, Craig and Tippett who can all ruck (though Tippett's preferred position is at FF). We have no need for another ruckman at all.

That said, there are plenty of clubs out there who do need one...

If we drafted McMahon before Pauly Pup I would be seriously pissed off.
If we draft McMahon at all I would be seriously pissed off.

McMahon may well be playing in SA next year.. but it would be in the SANFL, not on an AFL list.

I really don't understand the obsession with a mature player this year. They fail just as often and as hard as younger recruits. Often there is a good reason why they weren't picked up in the first place. And whilst we can get excited about prospects like Pods, Barlow & Palmer they are exceptions to the rule. In many cases they are often over-rated as well, simply because they make an immediate impact. I remember the excitement around Jake King a couple years back. Pods faded hard this year. And need I raise the names Nick Gill & Bryce Campbell?
