List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

Wingard was pretty open about the fact that he didn't want to go interstate...actually was blunt about it. Always wonder why we don't encourage more of the SA boys to do it

The young player would have to be 100% sure he was going to be picked up by one of the 2 x SA teams though.

Much easier to muck your club interviews with interstate clubs when there are 10 that may take you.

Hey Bicks have you seen much of young Ryan Clarke from eastern play this year? If you have could you give us your opinion of him as a midfielder.
I like him a lot, I believe he is the Rory Sloane of this draft, elite endurance, inside/outside blend, runs both ways, heavy accumulator, hits the scoreboard, only very slight knock is his kicking but definitely not penetration wise. No way I'd be disappointed if we drafted him, he's in my top 10 excluding Academy guys easily.

Good to hear. I like him a lot also. Could be a good chance for our second pick.

Matt crouch will be in and out of the side and used as injury cover?? HAHA please....

Also you could not be more wrong on Wigg. I know for a fact the club is quietly bullish on his prospects. The problem is that we have a few small defenders in front of him, but if he did ever get the call up, they have confidence in him.

I think that Grigg/Lyons could be the ones in trouble with the new interchange cap. They may struggle to have a serious impact with their average tanks.

If we draft Francis, I'm a little worried for Kelly. No doubt I like what he did this year, but he's just at that awkward size and unless he can emulate someone like Ben Stratton, then he may find himself without a spot on the list.
Grigg average tank...consistently in the top 5 of all preseason runs. +14 in the beep in his draft year. Lacks pace yes, but never a query on endurance

I'm settling on Milera and Hibberd now. Milera could be very special, and seems a Crow through and through. Hibberd would be a wonderful get - has so many traits that we need.

had a quick read of the emma quayle stuff in FB, predictions are still all over the place for top 15.
Oliver going potentially top 5 was the most interesting thing i read.

Paige has GC taking H McKay in her third PD. Good Dixon replacement I guess.

They don't need a Dixon replacement, they got one last year in Peter Wright, he's the reason GC low-balled Dixon on his next contract making him want to leave.

Is that one of the list management meetings where we moved out our best outside mid in order to trade in another inside mid even though we had almost no quality outside mids and had a stack of inside mids?
Was he part of that?

I think that was the meeting where we traded out one of our chronic underachieving midfielders for a pick that got us one of our midfielders of the future, as compared to the young mids we actually had at the time who weren't going to amount to much.

yes I do realise he was gifted that position. Yes I also realise it is appalling the AFL would hand him the keys to the best juniors in the country given his background...

It's almost like a club with a massive pharmaceutically delivered peptide scandal issue still hanging over their heads handing the keys over to a former pharmacist with a history of running teams that have a significant drug culture...

So - they hired a young coach who had a decade-long history in very successful programs, and who had recently coached at the highest level (including a preliminary final appearance). Is that what happened?

Sorry - why is that appalling? Who with a better CV than Sanderson was available?

What are his other incidents at the crows?

Plenty worse in the afl including Hodge if you count *injunction
Got drunk a week before the 2007 draft, as a result of which he wasn't drafted until the Rookie Draft in 2009. I don't have an article to link for this one, but you can read about it in his player profile in the Locker Room. From memory he was also sacked from the U18 State team for alcohol related issues.
EDIT: His U18 alcohol history is mentioned in this article:
http://www.afc.com.au/news/2010-05-18/crows-explain-trios-sanctions
Jaensch cost himself a chance of being drafted as an 18-year old when he was dumped from the South Australian U18 squad for drinking too much at a club function.

He received a club suspension for having a big night out on the town with Vince in 2010.

In 2011 he was involved in another alcohol-related incident, in which he was punched in the head. The man who punched him was found guilty of assault, and was subsequently sued for $30k in damages. The assailant alleged that he punched Jaensch because Jaensch was drunk, aggressive and had sexually assaulted a young woman.

Then in 2015 he was busted for DUI:
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...g/news-story/95e273b36a916c1b0eb69d153f1edb9b

There are probably more incidents as well, but those were the ones which sprang immediately to mind. Vince was not offered a new contract and was traded to Melbourne as a result of repeated alcohol fuelled incidents. Do not be surprised of Jaensch suffers a similar fate.

Individually, none of those are hanging offences. Taken collectively, they present a picture of a player with significant behavioural problems when under the influence of alcohol. The DUI incident may well turn out to be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

Very few players have a longer rap sheet. Harley Bennell is one of the few who spring to mind. This behaviour would have been completely acceptable and par-for-the-course in the 1970s and 1980s. Times have changed. It's unacceptable for an AFL player in the 2010s.

Is he? That's news to me, and wouldn't have thought so. He still seems to struggle to put in a 4 quarter performance.

But if so, then he better get his act together this year because he could be a very handy inside midfielder I think. Strong tackler with good intensity at the contest.
