We're not drafting another tall defender surely?

Dangerfield gone, Thompson on his last legs, doubts over B Crouch's durability.

Surely to goodness we're taking the two best midfielders we can.

Fair call this

Hard to see what the 2 most likely mids will be when its our turn

Harry McKay 200cm would be a tall very hard to pass up if he slides but carton will take him at pick 10.

Even with danger out, Thompson on dinosaur level & B.crouch injury worries, drafting 2mids isn't a must or the answer- we may rookie draft a matured mid?

Anything could happen this draft

With Dangerfield gone, Thompson going, and Brad Crouch perpetually injured, we're going to be long on quantity and desperately short on quality. Hence the need to draft 2 mids with 9 & 13. Drafting a "mature mid" in the rookie draft adds further to the quantity, but does nothing to help with the lack of quality.

Sloane, Matt Crouch and Douglas are all good in the midfield (Sloane is much better than good).. but we're still looking at a massive hole in the midfield, created by the players departing or constantly MIA. We need quality mids - and the only place to get them is with our 1st round selections.

Agreed. Closely followed by Mackay and Matheson for mine

For me it's not even a close contest.

The one type of player that will be available at our picks that we desperately DON'T need is a key position defender.

Inside mids, outside mids, half forwards, half backs, key forwards are all types of players I'd be fine with us drafting. Just not key defenders.

You obviously have shitloads of faith in Hartigan to be a very decent 2nd fiddle - that's ok, that's your opinion :thumbsu:

We should of traded for this not draft...
Drafting to build unknown AFL quality to fill these needs is not a fix IMO

Half Backs/small backs, rucks and small forwards are the areas I'd be most disappointed if we drafted. It's the areas where I feel we have both quantity and quality.
Ruck, quality and quantity. Jacobs, O'Brien, with Jenkins and Lowden is enough. And there's no one really worth getting.
Small forwards, quality and quantity. Betts, Cameron and Menzel, with Knight and Hampton.
Half backs/small backs, quality and quantity. Smith, Jaensch, Laird, Wigg, Seedsman, Brown, Kelly, Henderson, VanBerlo. Absolute bottom of the pile need.
Tall forwards, quality, but not quantity. Walker, Jenkins, Lynch, then McGovern, Dear and Greenwood as maybes. Could use one more. McKay, Curnow or Burton.
Inside mids, quality and quantity both fairly catered for. Crouchx2, Sloane, Thompson, Douglas, CEY, Grigg, Lyons, Gore. Wouldn't be against another 1, but that's a reasonably handy list. Hibberd being my preference, unless one of the top 8 somehow falls to us.
Key backs, quality, not quantity. Talia, Hartigan, Lever. It's the 'if Talia gets injured' scenario I'm worried about. Collins could help that scenario.
Outside mids, some quantity, not much proven quality. Seedsman, Menzel, Mackay, Knight, Atkins. Ah Chee or Milera could fill this hole in quality.
Medium backs, quantity, not quality. Otten, Shaw, Cheney, Lever. Collins also helps this group, as Lever can stay as a 3rd tall.

Amazing ...simply amazing ....one article & everyone jumps ship from previous wants and go 180degrees in the opposite direction

Don't worry about list management, best available ......press says ....so let it be
I'm not saying collins is one of our first options but all I'm saying is

1. We will be drafting a 191cm + player if we can help it ( h mckay , weid, b mckay , burton, collins , himmelberg)

2. We have done a whole lot of contingency planning for an unpredictable draft hence about 8 kids think they are a chance to reach us at 13

Your a lot more likely to draft successfully for a midfielder than a speculative 200cm forward.

And a lot easier to trade for a good midfielder than a b grade 200cm forward

My point is, free agency has changed from drafting for needs to drafting for (trade)currency unless your in rebuild mode

I get the feeling that Collins is a bit underrated on this board. A very good key defender who doesn't get beaten. Similar type of player to Talia. We could do a hell of anlot worse than Collins.

I for one would be pretty happy with Collins-Talia-Lever tall defensive trio. That gives us all sorts of flexibility and coverage in the defensive 50.

Sure he is not a sexy pick but neither was Talia at 13.
He reminds me more of ben rutten than Talia , bulky and strong around the trunk, slightly shorter but tall enough and gets the body in the right positions to make it hard for forwards to get a clear run at it

Makes up for being a little slow, lacking agility with body use and smarts

Gets involved in defensive transition more than Talia and at least as much as rutten used to ......screams modern day ben rutten

Not first choice but if we get a mid/ utility at 9 definitely someone I'd be happy with at 13 .....the defence would be set for 10 yrs with talia, lever, collins, brown and laird as core .....and still aren't writing off Hartigan who I think is capable as well
