List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

Reading between the lines I'd think we'd be getting Burton at 9 if he's available.
Just look at Jesse Stringer in 2012 or Selwood in 06, even Lever last year.

Hopefully Burton's knee holds up okay, I trust our medical staff, this guy could become a total gun for us as we start to push for a flag in 2018+, could be the next fyfe.
For the record, it's not his knee, it's the bones in his leg that needed repairing.

I have a feeling wel be going after a midfielder and a forward in the draft. If francis is still somehow there at 9 wel grab him and put him into a goddard type role.
To get Francis we needed to do pick upgrades, probably all the way to pick 3 given Essendon have 4…but in the end we will get 2 pretty good players.

My guess is or players will come from this group: Milera (prob be gone though), McKay, Burton, Oliver…maybe Hibberd and Tucker though we've traded for those positions reasonably well.

Whether they would be willing to move to Adelaide is largely irrelevant, more importantly ask them if they already have a girlfriend!

Or whether they are a hillbilly.

Seriously we should be giving these guys a girlfriend when we present them with their jumper

FB: Brown Talia Cheney
HB: Francis Lever Laird
C: Douglas Thompson Smith
HF: Lynch Walker Menzel
FF: Betts Jenkins Cameron
Ruck: Jacobs B. Crouch Sloane
Int: Hampton M. Crouch Burton Knight
I'm more talking about down the track, our next premiership push, so I'm not counting Douglas and Thompson.

B: Brown, Talia, Laird
HB: Francis, Lever, Smith
C: Menzel, Sloane, Knight
HF: Burton, Walker, Lynch
F: Betts, Jenkins, Cameron
R: Jacobs, BCrouch, MCrouch
I/C: Hampton, CEY, O'Brien, Gore

Very forward-heavy, IMO

That defence would include four first rounders; not exactly light on especially given our relatively slim pickings at the top end of the draft.

Or are you more concerned about a lack of class in the middle?

(Douglas is younger than Betts too)

I'm keen on Oliver, he has a great mix of strength, speed, lateral agility, decent skills and hardness.

Burton sounds brilliant but all depends on his leg; James' analysis on the last page doesn't sound promising.

It looks to me that melbourne have identified the player they wanted and hence their decision to get pick 3 and leapfrog essendon who probably were going to take their desired choice before their original pick 6. With weitering and schache locks for picks 1 and 2 melbourne will take parish, weideman or francis with pick 3. I also think essendon will go tall with picks 4,5. If you look at their list they have lost carlisle and fletcher, and last year drafted laverde(mid) and langford(mid/def) with their 2 top picks. maybe theyl throw a spanner in the works and select collins to sure up their defence.

Just see too many risks with Burton's injury , even if he is ready to go now how long until his knee becomes degenerative ? Could be done by 23

Massive risk for 1st rounder , high reward if he is ok

Reckon the docs will have the call more than the recruiters

Serious .....so Sydney at pick 33 goes on stage if top 10 bid?

That's farcical ......and reeks of Northern states promotion over promoting the game

Well to be fair if we pick them at 9 they are the 9th best player in the draft. Just because GWS match doesn't change that fact. Maybe they'll have a top 12 or 13 on stage this year. I'll bug Cal Twomey on twitter.

Looking at various phantom drafts alot have mathieson inside the top 10. Collins around the mark too. Also dont think gc will select milera at 6. Balic has shot up into contention too.

Hes a smooth mover i can see melbourne or carlton snapping him up inside the top 10.
I mentioned in a post a few days ago that I'd luv for us to pick him with our first pick.....purely because we don't have his type of silk in our midfield atm. Having said that I'm not sure if he is high on our list of needs

Thats what we need.

A few players to jump up, puhing a few current top 10 players down. Hopefully Francis is one of them and Burton is another to 13.
Balic, mathieson and even collins will push up into the top 10 imo. Carlton under sos will be going for a solid defence this draft. Weitering and collins with a ball winning mid like mathieson. Melbourne, gold coast and essendon are the problems.

Surely Carlton need to take a forward at some point though, can't be relying on Liam Jones for goals.

We have taken two big recent punts on injury, Menzel and Lever...
I think it is time to play safe at 9 and 13... Best available at both picks and give Burton a miss for mine.
Not overly fussed what position as long as they can kick a ball..
We are in a situation where we don't desperately need a player in a certain position but we could also use an extra player in every position

Burton's dad Craig played a lot of games for North & Westies and even worked/coached at the club ? another F/Son opportunity not qualified ?
