List Mgmt. Draft Watch 2015

That's why we drafted them last year. Don't need to go to the same well two years running.

If they are considered to be a better player you do.

You then cut your losses and play the better player. It's about winning, not being nice.

This is why clubs are stuck with a Farren Ray instead of a Matthew Pavlich or Arron Fiora instead of a buddy Franklin

Unless Weitering slipped to Pick 9 there is absolutely no way we are picking up a KPD with our picks.

However to the AFC we might still be selecting "best available" as our rankings wouldn't place defenders very high in the ranks
This is a good point. The AFC would go off their "best available" list, picking the first player on the list who hadn't already been selected. But the criteria for establishing that list would give KPF and KPD a low priority, so they would be behind the top midfielders on the list.

We also have Otten, who is quite capable of playing as a KPF when needed. He wouldn't be the first one chosen, but he was picked ahead of LJ a few years back. Lowden is also (allegedly) capable of playing as a KPF if required.

Sure, Otten and Lowden could fill in.

However KPFs take 2-3 years to develop properly, so we'd need to pick one up in the next few years (ideally on the tall side) to replace Jenkins in 3-5 years time (and Walker in 4-6 years time).

This year there could be some great KPFs available at our pick, whereas next year that looks unlikely (going one early reports). I'd be perfectly happy if we picked one up this year.

As for Dear and Ramsey (our 'true' KPF replacements) we're talking about completely unproven late and rookie picks. Grabbing a KPF at Pick 9 or 13 has a much greater chance of success.

This. Feels a bit mercenary atm. Felt a bit off in the hawthorn final when Bruce pointed out we had more Victorians than the hawks.

Nothing against Victorians, and you may well get the odd Sloane that falls in love with the state and the club, but I want more Smith and Laird type local boys with passion. Passion can provide that extra 1-2% that can be the difference

i think its a big issue that Nobes and Our recruiters have maybe overlooked for a while, but Reid seems to want to change this.
as ive said before only bring in a non-sa boy if he is much better than an sa boy, given our draft position this draft i doubt there will be much better talent available than the 4 SA boys.

The Fonzzz is back.

That half back line has a combined total of zero experience and would get penetrated unspeakably
If you read my whole post, you'd find that I'm talking a few years down the track. Yeah, that back line is going to get spanked after 3 years of development

In other words.. we go the best available midfielder. We don't need KPFs or KPDs or ruckmen.
We have one of the barest KPF lists in the league

We have 2 good ones thankfully but in 3-4 years time I doubt Jenkins will be playing good AFL football and that's how long it takes to develop an elite KPF prospect so the timing is perfect

If he's a great kid, he plays in his 2nd-3rd year and develops by year 4

Out of interest, do you know how it compares to Barlow's leg break? I recall Barlow's snapping just below the knee which sounds similar to the description of Burton's.

I have no idea the result of whether either were clean breaks or not.

Had a look but haven't been able to determine the exact injury that Barlow suffered beyond a fracture to his lower leg. The main key point is joint involvement as it disrupts the Catilage/Meniscus which help cushion the joints from repetitive stress and whilst bone generally heals pretty well, these other joint structures don't compromising the joints ability to withstand stress.

And McGovern...

The policy has been the same for a while now, and I'm quite happy with the current settings.

If there is no clear difference between the quality of two players, then go for the SA kid. If the non-SA kid is clearly better, then we go for the non-SA kid.

This usually results in our later picks being SA players (R3+ and RD), with non-SA players more likely to be taken with our 1st & 2nd round picks.

i hope so, our club was at its best when the majority were SA boys, dont think we have enough atm.
Francis and Milera would be ideal for me.
1991?

I don't put a lot of weight on the Morrish Medal, Oliver was probably helped in winning it due to not playing in the carnival or having AIS commitments.

When you look at the last few winners.

2014 Alex Carr
2013 Jacob Chisari; Ben Cavarra; George Cameron; Josh Scott
2012 Nick Graham
2011 Alex Benbow
2010 Dyson Heppell; Jackson Sketcher
2009 Anton Woods
2008 Farran Priest; Jarryd Blair
2007 Matthew Kreuzer
2006 Fortunato Caruso
2005 Fortunato Caruso

Not exactly a long history of the TAC Cup B&F going on to have an impact at AFL level.
That's pretty damning.

Not sure if serious? There is more to a list than best current 22. What we got an injury to Tex, Jenkins, Talia or Jacobs?

O'Brien I have some confidence in that he'll be a decent afl player but the coverage (or up and coming talent) to cover Tex, Jenkins or Talia is both poor and shallow.

I'm not saying we must go tall, I'm saying go best available at 9 & 13, but to say our only need is mids? Surely you jest.

Anyone know any good people to follow on Twitter for inside draft knowledge? I've currently got cal twomey, Emma Quayle and Brett Anderson but could always do with more!

Drafting a tall KPF won't change our coverage.. at least not in 2016 it won't.

Our biggest need is high quality A-grade mids. We have plenty of mids. Good depth. We lack quality, particularly now that Dangerfield is gone and Thompson is likely to be gone very soon.

Agreed.
Francis Burton Milera Bonner. All 4 are perfect for our needs, and at least 2 of the 4 will be available. No need to look interstate.
Yea vic clubs would be waiting and licking their lips to see which talented vic kid we will draft and develop so they can pounce in a couple years

Nothing has changed for me.

1. Francis
2. Milera
3. Burton (IF leg ok)
4. Oliver (jumps Burton if doubts on injury)
5. McKay

It's possible all 5 could be gone by pick 13 but would be unlucky. I guess we would then look to Tucker, Hibberd or even B McKay if very keen to rank 'best available' towards height.
