So going by what ive seen and heard over the weekend curnow is who melbourne want at pick 3. Parish should go to essendon at 4. They will then take weideman with 5 if his medical comes back solid. Hopefully gc and melbourne spring a surprise and select somebody like balic, ah chee, tucker, collins or mathieson. Then carlton select mckay, leaving us with a choice of francis, milera, burton and oliver.:D
Melbourne probably need another key defender ? Collins to melb is a chance ....gives them McDonald brothers and Collins

Your posting on selection makes no sense, first it's fine and then it isn't. And those criticising selection have been proven right, we wanted to move away from players like Wright and Mackay and we did and we prospered.

This is my point. You can't be proven right. The selectors can only be proven wrong. There is no real evidence that supports another choice being better, unless your opinion is "they couldn't have been worse", when of course the COULD have been.

That's why I have empathy, even when I disagree. The coaching/selection team has to make the actual call, and their choice is the only one that can be measured. So even when they're wrong, I'm not going to claim that automatically makes me right.

I'm also comfortable with the fact that people who have the responsibility to make 500+ decisions a year are probably only going to get 99% or so of them right.

I think he will be a late bolter into the top dozen. Hes readymade. Not too many kpp are. I also think balic is another one who will climb up the order. Looks like a really smooth mover and hits the scoreboard. Recruiters love this type of player.

There is also not knowing the ins and outs

Maybe m crouch gets dropped because he's not hitting GPS numbers of an afl player so they put him on a 2 week pre season

Or they want Atkins in the side but they want to make sure he has enough conditioning so that when they pick him he doesnt burn out after a few
weeks

Next season we have more players to cover our previous weaknesses so I'll be expecting less gifting of games

We prob start gifiting games to KPFs instead as poor depth there

I can't see them using an early draft pick just to add to KPD depth.

Last year marchbank was being linked to us at 14. Then a couple of days before the draft he rose up the order significantly to gws at pick 6. Lever slid to us mainly because he was coming off a knee reco. Kpp definately hold more weight because their is a lack of them in the draft pool. Clubs like melbourne, carlton, essendon all lack kpp. They all have 2 picks before us and imo they will all take atleast 1 kpp each.

with smith, seed, Hampton, tucker and Francis all being able to go through the midfield or wings, tucker ran a 15.4 beep test so he is a gut runner
get your point..
but will say tucker struggled in the midfield compared to how he went at half back this year at all levels (had a few good mid games)
smith- was the same
hampton - is way short on endurance and repeat efforts for midfield
seedsman- played his best footy at half back for pies
francis- is a gun intercept player with the game in front of him and lacks endurance (at least 2 full pre seasons away from being able to play midfield)

so while they all have potential to play midfield it doesn't mean that they will be successful playing there , I think smith will be but there are plenty of people on this board who think he should stay at half back because he's a gun there and I can understand that logic too

I agree. Both the McDonalds are lockdowns though yeah?
Would they want a third? hence why i think Aaron will go there as the 3rd up zone off type.

I think team selection has been fine.

The problem with armchair critics complaining about selection is there's no downside for them. We'll never know what would have happened if someone did what they wanted, or if things would have been worse. All we know is our selectors made a choice and we didn't win.

This is my point. You can't be proven right. The selectors can only be proven wrong. There is no real evidence that supports another choice being better, unless your opinion is "they couldn't have been worse", when of course the COULD have been.

None of this makes sense. Take Wright for example. We asked for a change to one of the guys in the SANFL who had been in good form to replace him given he was doing nothing. The club defended his continued selection because of a "Non-statistical" role. There was no change in his performance but then he is dropped. Knight who replaces him, does very well and Wright is delisted.

So we know what happened if they did what we wanted. That is pretty clear. We were proven right and the selectors proven wrong.

Then look at Mackay. Many of us said he was a poor choice to play against the Hawks. He was and he was subbed early. Again we were right and they were wrong.

No they can't.

There's no evidence a different team would do better or worse.

Neil Craig can sit there and say "Imagine what we'd look like without them (oldies)" and we're all left to wonder.

Is there any way to see the full combine results? I hate being limited to the top 10 when comparing something like 20m sprint where the top 10 are all between 2.88 and 2.94

Someone running a 2.95 is still very quick.
