How much did you see of Thommo in his first 2 years to state his fitness was better?

He's also barely seen M.Crouch play live yet is writing off his skills already:rolleyes:.

I've said it before, BOB's skills are not as bad as being inferred here. I saw him live at SANFL level numerous times in 2014 and, like many here, all AO games this year. His kicking, while not a strength or elite by any stretch, isn't that bad. When he kicks within his limitations it's fine and it'll look better at AFL level as he gains more composure and experience. He's kicked very nicely weighted kicks to Tex a couple of times as examples of what he is capable of when composed.

I'd rather us attempt to find someone who's perhaps not quite such an inside beast, but makes up for it with far superior pace and kicking skills.

I think we've already got enough options for guys who could potentially replace Thommo, I also feel we've been running with 1-2 too many inside beasts, which leads to us having a poor spread as they're all fighting for the inside ball, with none waiting on the outside to do something with it, or defend it if the opposition win.

I like the look of Tucker or Hibberd for our pick 13, both look to have genuine inside potential, but with strong outside games as well.
Couldn't agree more

I disagree, last year we took a risk. Taking a risk with a big payoff is a way the club can make up for the lost picks. But the club will obviously do their due diligence. With Burton for example, the club wouldn't take him unless the medical team has given him the thumbs up with no ifs, buts or maybes. The risk they will take is that they haven't seen him play in almost 2 years, but 2 years ago he was touted as a possible pick 1.

If we had not lost any picks the club would have continued on with the same draft process they always have of picking up certainties. But we won't win a premiership playing it safe after losing those 4 picks, playing it safe would ensure we continue to be a 6 - 12 team for the next 10 years.
Oh please! People are talking about knee reconstructions like they are career ending injuries. The success rate of knee reconstructions in recent years is very very good so it is not as big a injury as it was. So many underage players have undergone knee reconstruction and had no issues with the knees through their entire AFL career. Our own Ben Rutten had a knee reco at 16 and hardly missed a game and was regularly amongst league leaders in time on ground.

And how do you classify our pickes in recent years as safe picks is beyond me. Dangerfield over Ebert was not considred a safe pick especially since Dangerfield spent first year in Moggs Creek. Davis at 10 missed a whole season in his draft year but to you that was safe but Lever was risky?

Our approach to draft has not changed despite what you believe. We went for best talent in Lever and rightly so we were not scared off by a knee reco because it's not potentially a career ending injury.

If Burton had a knee reco alone or a broken leg alone, he would be a top 10 pick and wouldn't be available at 9. But fact is his injury is far more serious than Lever's Davis' or Stringer's hence why he is sliding down the draft order significantly. His injury is far more serious. AFC will due their due diligence and will pick him if his leg is a non issue but all the indicators so far are that the leg is a significant issue and as such, I highly doubt its the risk that we will take.

His kicking will improve with fitness , will give him that half second more time to execute

I'm already on board. After what he was able to achieve at the back end of this year with that bad, bad ankle injury losing a whole heap of fitness, amongst very trying times... The stage is set if he completes a full pre-season.
What's his best position long term? I like him too obviously

I really hope Francis makes it through to pick 9. We seriously need marking power in our side. I see him as a Goddard style utility.

Vader - crouch and sloane are contested ball winners , stoppage and clearance players ... They v much are INSIDE players

Sloane has played on a wing as outside mid due to us having enough inside mids in the past and severely lacking in outside mids. He was able to play out there because he runs hard and can follow structures and coaches instructions

Now that danger has gone, sloane will be our key inside mid closely followed by B crouch who is similarly inside contested possession winner if he can get on the park

We also have Thommo for one more season and M Crouch and CEY coming through

We have elite talent inside mids despite the loss of danger and despite our trading we have no proven outside mids but hope that smith , Seedsman , hampton can fill those roles

Ps Sloane 18 th in CP per game in league last year and 12th in 2014. B Crouch 44th in CP per game in an interupted 2014

M Crouch, Sloane and B Crouch are INSIDE MIDS no doubt
Funny how everyone always forgets Douglas, one of our best clearance winners and a great example of an inside/outside mid.

What's his best position long term? I like him too obviously

Probably running up and down the wing all day long, resting as a small forward sometimes too if need be rather than on the bench is what id have him pigeon-holed for

Ive only seen hibberds highlights video and dont know much about him, but yeah he seems alot like smith. Will be a good player imo.

191cm player who has a raking kick on him and is elite for endurance. Seems to be an okay contested mark also. I mean I know we just recruited Seedsman and Hampton, but I wouldn't be opposed to drafting this guy with 13.

Edit - The big knock on him is his injury history. Is 19 this year and an over ager.

Have a look at the OP in the crows stats thread and see how many things knight got in to despite limited games last year.

I'll put my hand up and say he was one I predicted him to be nothing special but it looks like I am going to be eating some serious humble pie on that in the future.

Haha funny you say that. I remember watching him train with the forwards at a few open training sessions in 2014 and you just got that feeling deep down that this kid was going to have an impact at AFL level.

If we can snag Francis and Tucker our possible 2017 team:

Brown Talia Lever
Francis Hartigan Laird
Smith MCrouch Tucker/Seed
Lynch Walker Menzel
Betts Jenkins Cameron
Jacobs Sloane BCrouch

Knight CEY Gore Hampton

QUOTE: Knightmare Phantom Draft
Tucker and several others next update will move up a fair way in my power rankings.

In saying that I don't agree with your evaluation of his talent. His skills are only average and even good I would deem incorrect. No hurt factor, only average reliability. There's nothing freakish there. I'm also not expecting Tucker to be a 200 gamer. It's a possibility. But not my prediction. Even for pace Tucker is good but not special only just being sub 3sec and in game shows good but not freakish acceleration. Endurance excellent so that's good and suggests he can offer run many times in game, which he can do when there is space in front of him.

Overall Tucker still leaves me feeling meh. He can be a component to a team and possibly a productive component to a team by position either off a back flank or maybe a wing. But he is no star to my eyes anyway with way too many quiet games where he just doesn't have an influence

I admit I never got to watch him at preseason training which was a big disadvantage. Was only down in Adel for 2012 and 2013 preseasons. From those I predicted Laird, Lynch, Jenkins and Hartigan to go well and so far those predictions are looking ok.

Only seen Riley Knight in SANFL on TV and didn't see much in him but perhaps I just watched his down games. Though, I can remember nathan bock looking if not mediocre, down right poor in SANFL and then we brought him into the AFL and he went really well. I couldnt believe it. Sometimes people who wont necessarily carve up in reserves level can go well at AFL level.

Would love to get a look at McGovern and Dear this preseason. McGovern looked pretty good from what I could see in SANFL on TV last year. Also ROB. That's a no brainer tho.

I dont think wel let francis get past our first pick.

Very good contested mark , one of his main strengths , can't see why he couldn't develop into a full time mid but v comfortable half back /wing at this stage

If we don't get Francis at 9 I can see us getting him at 13

Maybe long term dougy replacement as an in/out mid with stints resting forward

Could go ok on wing too but maybe not polished enough with his delivery ? And a bit short ? Na he would go well on wing too

Why wont M.Crouch be elite? For a second year player his numbers are elite.

You would have said exactly the same thing about Scott Thompson after 2 years!

Yep, For a 20 year old kid, with a a limited fitness base his numbers look pretty good to me. Excepting the Clanger stat. :) image.png

Oliver and ah chee will be in the top dozen selected bar the academy players.
Oliver will imo go to essendon with curnow.
Ah chee will go to richmond.
Doubt carlton will select weitering and collins with their first 2 picks. Mckay, burton or weideman will be taken with their second pick.
I think the francis/tucker combo is gaining momentum and alot of people seem happy with it. I personally hope its francis and milera.
