Yeah ok, my bad.. fair enough. The original post said 2017 mate, doubt he's going to play beyond next year.
Fact 1 you had never seen Thommo play in his first 2 seasons so how you can compare fitness and project outcomes is amusing.Lacks fitness, pace, and poor kicking skills (particularly when trying to kick > 15m).
Individually, none of those are critical. Taken in combination, they're enough to mean that he'll never be elite.
- Fitness will improve with a full pre-season, but will probably never reach elite levels. Thompson's fitness was always better than Crouch's.
- Nothing we can do about his lack of pace.
- Thompson's kicking is poor, and he's been our clanger king for as long as I can remember. Crouch's kicking is worse. Not bad at short rage, but struggles to hit a target beyond that.
Now, I'm not saying that he's a bad footballer, a spud, below AFL standard, or anything like that. He's good enough to have a long and successful AFL career. He just won't reach the elite level, that's all.

We have 3 on our list ...Crouch brothers and Sloane . All can be elite as inside mids
We need a complete mid that can play in/out and also on the flanks
Not many of those available with our picks , parish and mills are the ones that would suit from this draft

The 'problem' I have with Shaw/Otten as KP defenders is they're not the greatest lockdown defenders (both are quite good over the top/help out) and you factor that in with their weight which is often forgotten when talking about KP players and you begin to see the reason why I/others aren't keen on the idea of them being our backup KP defenders (when it's clear their best role is the 3rd tall position). But for now, he is a 196cm player, playing as the 3rd tall, because if everyone is fit then he's either playing that role or he is out of the side. But, Schofield IS a KPD. Its the exact same with Shaw. Shaw spent 2012 manning up on some of the bigger forwards in the comp.
In regards to Otten, he may have been a rebounding defender at one point, but he is no more, which was actually my original point. The ONLY time Otten is going to be playing for us in 2016 (IMHO) is as coverage if one of Talia/Hartigan/Lever goes down, or someone like Jenkins down the other end, who are all KPPs...
2017 teamWhy is everybody writing off scott thompson? If hes fit he will play rd 1.
I really hope Francis makes it through to pick 9. We seriously need marking power in our side. I see him as a Goddard style utility.

Talia: 196cm and 95kg
Hartigan: 193cm and 89kg
Otten: 194cm and 92kg (better than I expected)
Shaw: 194cm and 86kg
Lever: 193cm and 84kg
I'll put up our KP forwards as an example of the size of guys they'd be looking at covering:
Walker: 194cm and 98kg
Jenkins: 199cm and 103kg
Looking at the two Eagles players you've listed in Schofield and McGovern which are considered backup KP/3rd tall types:
Schofield: 196cm and 94kg
McGovern: 190cm and 96kg
So whilst Otten isn't too underweight, someone like Shaw is a good 8-10kg lighter then the equivalent WCE guys and 12-17kg lighter then our key position forwards and probably something similar to what he'd be giving up each week if he had to play that role. Can't really expect him to hold his own in a 1v1 contest like the above WCE guys were who would be much harder to move than Shaw due to their size I'd imagine. Shaw has also been in the system for quite some time now so I'm guessing he's probably not going to put on much more size if he hasn't already.
Due to our lack of depth in the KP area I have no doubt that we'd look to him if Talia/Hartigan were to get injured, I just don't see him doing a great job in the role as his body shape isn't really that of what a KP player should be.
Francis will be gone. But there was never any hope for him anyway. Bombers fan. Lost cause.
Let's just get Milera and then whatever insidish hound dog is left at 13. If the last 5 years have taught us anything whatsoever, and let's not be morons, it's that winning the ball isn't half as important as using it
DARCY Tucker once modelled his game on Stephen Milne.
But when the talented half-back lands at an AFL club, his role will be to stop players in the mould of the ex-Saints forward — not play like them.
“People laugh at that, but I was really small growing up and I played in the forward pocket in junior footy,” Tucker said.
“I probably wasn’t as annoying as him; I just liked to kick sneaky goals.”
Tucker’s role models have since changed. A line-breaking defender, he is no longer the frequent goalkicker he had hoped to one day become.
Instead, he is the rebounder that holds no fear in releasing the shackles and taking the game on whenever he is given the slightest opportunity.
“I’ve got the ability to get the ball and take some grass if I need to,” he says with a smile
Tucker’s long-term goal in the AFL is to become a permanent midfielder.
A 15.3 beep test at the draft combine — the third best overall — and high disposal numbers in both the TAC Cup and national championships suggests he has both the tank and the ability to fulfil that ambition.
RYAN Clarke’s meteoric rise this year has surprised everyone — even himself.
“I’ve always had an inner-belief, but it was kind of always a dream,” Clarke tells Fox Footy. “I had never represented any teams. I was just a decent local footballer.”
But “decent” just doesn’t do Clarke’s TAC Cup season justice. As his Eastern Ranges stormed into the finals, Clarke amassed 45, 42 and 30 disposals — as well as three goals — in the space of three games.
His season was so dominant he finished fifth in the TAC Cup’s best and fairest, the Morrish Medal.
But Clarke says playing a full season of footy surpasses any kind of individual honour, after a hip injury sidelined him for the majority of his 2014 campaign. He only played one game last year and went largely unnoticed by recruiters.
Clarke underwent surgery in September to give himself the best shot at a full pre-season for his final year of school and TAC Cup footy.
And while Clarke says the surgery was necessary, it was also a necessary evil because it derailed his AFL ambitions.
But next year could herald an even bigger transition for Clarke if he gets drafted. Particularly if he is picked up by one of the interstate clubs.
“The family know it’s always been a dream so they’d support me going anywhere, whether that’s going to Gold Coast or GWS,” he says.
Or perhaps even Fremantle? Now that’s a proposition Clarke would fancy, seeing as he models his game on the Dockers’ Michael Barlow and David Mundy, two tough inside midfielders whom he aspires to emulate because of their ability to go forward and kick goals.

Bolter?Ryan Clarke is the Rory Sloane of this draft, elite endurance ,runs both ways, good balance of inside/outside ability, quality accumulator, hits the scoreboard, only a very slight knock on his foot skills but certainly not penetration wise....largely underrated in this draft IMO.
Not really, had a bloody impressive season in the TAC Comp, almost lone handed carried Eastern into the Finals, some of his numbers were simply outstanding....more just underrated than a "bolter" IMO.Bolter?
Yeah most likely, fanfooty just has an easy database to do a quick search - compared to the crappy made telstra site - Did just do a quick look elsewhere and it seems the numbers I posted above are unders for the most part (Talia +2kg, Hartigan +5kg, Otten -1kg, Shaw +4kg, Lever +1kg, Walker +2kg, Jenkins +1kg).He does mention those numbers vary from site to site. But you'd have to think there's a site a bit more reliable than fanfooty.

I didn't think Nathan bock would make the grade... So just saying it's impossible to predict the potential of all players.Fact 1 you had never seen Thommo play in his first 2 seasons so how you can compare fitness and project outcomes is amusing.
Fact 2 you have never seen M.Crouch play live so your opinion means little
Fact 3 I'm pretty sure I have had this exact argument with you before so I'm not going to bother but I will remind you that you stated Jaensch definitely wouldn't make it, Laird would never be more than a fringe player and CEY wouldn't get a contract![]()

Don't care as hardly relevant....who does crows1980 think we will get?

It's not difficult to change your mind & admit you got it badly wrong.![]()
Yeh not saying he isnt worthy and didnt have a great season. He might push up into the top dozen with his starring in the tac compNot really, had a bloody impressive season in the TAC Comp, almost lone handed carried Eastern into the Finals, some of his numbers were simply outstanding....more just underrated than a "bolter" IMO.
