How so? Don't port and geelong have picks starting in the 50s or so?
If you make an academy team make an early bid on a player, they have to combine later picks together to build up enough points to match the pick. So an academy team taking one player could see them lose multiple picks later down the order, moving everyone behind those picks up places. Brisbane currently have picks 38,39,40,41 & 42 if they have to give them all up to combine into 1 pick, it turns Port Adelaide's pick 49 into pick 45 and a kid or kids Brisbane would have taken with those picks if they had some left over would slip through.

Whether you are religious or not, some obviously are and what you wrote was highly offensive and in pretty poor taste.

So I've offended all our monotheastics? If you're deeply offended I'll delete it because I like you. But the world would be a better place if people didn't get offended over comments about things that don't exist

It's a lottery after about pick 25. Plus, it's a shallow draft. Bleed them. Why make it easier for an opposition at the pointy end of the draft on the chance that some other opposition wins the lottery?

It's not an off chance, if you are taking something from one team, you are giving what they are losing to another team. The same kids will end up getting drafted somewhere. If you take picks away from Brisbane they don't disappear and no one can take what would have been taken by those picks, they just go to the next team. So why screw Brisbane, a team as low as you can get, to help the next team?

Parella no good?

Who knows, has zero impact around the ground presently, perhaps rookie him in a couple of years when he has developed his game more?
Tim Sullivan from SA is higher rated and a better prospect in my opinion but he's coming off a serious injury [ACL]??

Ruckmen are usually long term projects with Sullivan superior to Parella by a fair stretch.

You're seriously worried about port moving from 49 to 45? Look, when we get an academy every arseh*le is going to bid against us to make life difficult. This is sport. Brisbane are down. Keep them down. No free hits

The point that I and others are making is that we should only bid on academy kids if there is a clear benefit in us doing so.

Making Brisbane cough up an extra pick or two in the 40's and 50's just seems vindictive to me.

Bidding on mills and hopper early have clear benefits for us (assuming no one else does).

I disagree. If you consider their kid to be the best prospect at your pick, you damn well should call out his name because you never are 100% certain that the team will match. In most cases they do but it is not a given. For example if Carlton bid pick 1 for Hipwood would Brisbane match? I suspect not.

This is no different to the father son bidding. Kangaroos had to pony up pick 8 for McDonald the other year and we put in a bid for Freeman from Brisbane. Teams would be mad not to place bids on players that they think are worth it at their pick.

If as is suspected we are into Harry McKay then we must put in a bid for Hipwood because he's definitely superior to McKay on disclosed form, clearly the 3rd best tall in this draft with oodles of upside.

So.. you were given an article which flatly contradicted your position. Otten named at CHB. Your argument now becomes "but he never really played that role". Talk about shifting the goal posts.

The reality is that Otten has played as a KPD in the past and the decision to give him a 2-year contract was clearly based on his ability to play that role.
Did you watch the 2012 Preliminary Final? I suspect you didn't. In all seriousness, I strongly suspect you don't watch games. Otherwise, how could you come up with garbage like 'Otten is a KPD' as well as so much other crap.

My argument never changed. Your proxy went to enormous lengths to find an obscure article on a general sports website. I could probably find a team sheet where Betts is named at FF. Does that mean he's a KPF?

Let it go or PM me. No-one else needs to read this. It's got very boring.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. There wasn't exactly a long queue forming to sign Harley Bennell - and Bennell is 10x the player that Jaensch is.

Players with Jaensch's record (alcohol related behavioural problems) are not in high demand at the best of times.
Seriously? This is the AFL. The vast majority have alcohol related behavioural problems.

Hasn't done Luke Hodge's reputation much damage.

If we don't bid on them when they deserve to be taken the next club probably will. Meaning Brisbane or whoever will lose around the same picks and Power will move up maybe one less spot.

The new bidding system is great in that players get taken where they deserve to and clubs pay the price.

It would also be bit of a bragging right to the selectors in 10 years time if Hipwood is dominate the comp to say "we bidded on him". I know this won't benefit us.

Port was an example, the point is you are not just spooling brisbanes party and stopping them getting a bonus. Anything you take from Brisbane goes to a club further up the ladder, so why help a club that is in a better position to spite Brisbane, when we gain nothing. If Brisbane can't afford the bid you will get a player who will resent you for stealing him away from his family because he had been told he had a free pass to stay.

teams never line up as they are named FFS.

Luke Thompson played CHB in that game

Fanfooty lists Rutten on Franklin, Thompson on Roughead, and Otten on Gunston, though it's not always necessarily accurate.

Where did you hear this?
I still feel there will be a couple of surprises in the top 15
Read it on a link from one of the vic papers. I think richmond will take gresham over ah chee. No go home factor, small forward role that can push up into the midfield and theyve recruited yarran who gives them what ah chee couldve.
