Would melbourne go for both Curnow and Francis? Both undersized...

The draft night revamp will see senior coaches announce their club's selections in the first round next week. Should be an interesting night

I couldn't see what this meant at first and then I realised it would be the coaches that announced the 1st round selections rather than the recruiters. Interesting change.

I'm still hoping for some NBA draft styled booing. Can we ask all Adelaide people attending the draft to BOO Buckley (just for old times sake) and Geelongs Scott just for the giggles.

It's a really good point. Both top talent, but both undersized and have no defined role. Francis - a 3rd tall/midsized defender hoping to play midfield. Curnow a 3rd tall/midsized forward hoping to midfield.

Pretty risky move to go for both.

I think yes, play at opposite ends of the ground. Complement what they have nicely already.
There's no doubting the talent... and they're both certainly worthy of those high picks...

Very interesting to see the strategies from the Dees and Bombers.

Anyone like Tom Baulch at the Roar's take on the draft??

Can't see us taking Balic with our 1st, especially over Oliver if we are going mids.

Can't really see this happening it all depends on how the cookie crumbles from pick 3 onwards.

It's all a bit hard to put any weight behind when the author isnt informed in the slightest.

You misinterpret my meaning. Grigg was dropped shortly after Walsh's passing and never returned to the senior team. At the end of the year he was given a 12-month "dead man walking" contract. All indications are that he is now the 39th or 40th ranked player on our team list (competing with Lowden for last spot) and is almost certain to be delisted at the end of 2016. In other words, Campo's decision to drop him not only ended his season - it appears that his entire career is now in jeopardy.

It's also worth noting that the decision to give him a 12-month contract was made after Pyke's appointment as coach. I wouldn't be making any assumptions about Grigg's fortunes being reversed due to a change in coach.

As for comparing him with Douglas.. they might be comparable if you're just looking at the number of disposals, but that's where the comparison ends. Grigg was drafted in 2011 and has played 20 AFL games. Douglas was drafted in 2005 and played 56 games in his first 4 years on the list - having forced his way into a much stronger side (one which contained Roo, Goodwin, Edwards & McLeod). Even at the same age Douglas was much, much better than Grigg - which is why he's played 171 AFL games and is still going strong, while Grigg is stuck on 20 games and his career is as good as over.

Griggs is overrated here. Am happy to see the club agrees with this only giving him a one year contract.

I think his ceiling is Chris knights. He's slower than knights (which is a massive issue) but has a slightly better kick. He could become a 150 game player in a mid tier side.

Knights was quicker (as you pointed out) and was better at finding the ball. He used to rack up some fairly high disposal counts, regularly getting 25+ disposals, particularly in 2007 & 2008. Grigg's ceiling is nowhere near as good as Chris Knights.

New Yorkers usually boo their own team. Not that they aren't justified in doing so, but I would not be taking cues from them.

I think we now know why Grigg went where he did in the draft. Would love to see him have a dominant preseason and put together a few very good SANFL games to get his confidence up, hasn't really done that since his second year with Norwood. There's still an opening for an inside mid with good footskills if he can prove he can get the ball 25+ times a game.

I know they do - its become a tradition.

I'd like to see a similar tradition, but rather than booing your own team you randomly boo others just for fun!

Be interesting to see just how much better a chance the future Grigg/Lyon/Kerridge etc etc get now that they won't be wearing green and playing for 20 minutes before going back into the SANFL for another month.

Strongly believe the green vest has really stunted the development of a number of young players.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...

He's talking about the kids we draft in the future, that are in the Grigg/Lyons/Kedge position (ie 23-25th ranked player)
Yeah, but that's not funny...

I know, but I can't pass up the opportunity to be a mildly amusing idiot.

There have always been fringe players and there will always be fringe players, who come in and out of the side depending on injuries to other players. If they were good enough then they would have forced their way into the best 21 and put themselves out of contention for the sub-vest, just like Knight and Matt Crouch did.

For those joining the party late, I have inputted 187 mock drafts and 23 player ratings into a complex computer program and the consensus is as follows;

Absolutely no chance;
Callum Mills - Inside Mid, Jacob Hopper - Inside Mid, Matthew Kennedy - Inside Mid, Eric Hipwood - Key Forward, Key Defender, Ben Keays - Inside Mills
Whilst 3 or 4 of these may be in the best 10 players available, they are all part of the AFL Mercy **** Program. Sydney, GWS and Brisbane are able to pick these lads up for the cost of a half eaten ham sandwich due to the new "fairer payment system" designed by an AFL rocket scientist.
What makes it even better is that the "chosen few" clubs have traded their top 10 picks thus pushing us even further down the pecking order. Our pick 9 is effectively pick 13 which may not be a bad thing since we have been clueless with single digit draft picks but sensational with picks 10-14.

Snowballs Chance in Hell
Jacob Weitering - Key Defender, Josh Schache - Key Fortward, Charlie Curnow - Marking forward, big arsed midfielder, Darcy Parish - Outside midfielder.
Almost everyone expects these guys to be gone before our first pick (unless they are picked up doing 150 kph snorting coke prior to the draft).

Fingers Crossed
Aaron Francis (SA) - Rebounding Defender
Wayne Milera (SA) - Small Forward, Outside Mid
Sam Weideman (Vic Metro) - Key Forward
Harry McKay (Vic Country) - Key Forward, Ruck
Clayton Oliver (VC) - Inside/Outside Mid
The good news is that at least one of these lads has to slip through to our first pick. The bad news is that it will probably be McKay or Oliver.

In the Mix
Keiran Collins (VC) - Key Defender
Harley Balic (VM) - Inside Mid/High Half Forward
Callum Ah Chee (WA) - Small Forward
Ryan Burton (SA) - One Legged Marking Forward, Big Arse Midfielder
Darcy Tucker (VC) - Rebounding Defender
Mitch Hibberd (Tas) - Rebounding Defender, Outside Mid

Outside Chance
Rhys Mathieson (VC) - Inside Mid
Jade Gresham (VM) - Inside Mid
Riley Bonner (SA) - Rebounding defender

My Predictions?
Harry McKay and Riley Bonner

Tell em their Dreamin
Aaron Francis and Wayne Milera.
