Any love at all for Burton?

It is simply a risk assessment for him. Potential is top level, injury issues are significant.

It might depend on pick 9. If we get someone we are super confident will be a GUN, then could perhaps take the risk on Burton at 13. If not, then probably best to get 2 200 game players instead.

Wayne's-World

This will make your day!

Who knows at this point .....would be a fantastic get IMO but just 5 days he was a lock for pick 3 .....so everyone's guessing

Still have Francis, Milera, McKay and Curnow in the mix .....it just takes Carlton for example to take Curnow instead of McKay .....and do we grab then, McKay

What if GC takes Milera as has always been predicted ......my thoughts have been if Melbourne took Parish, Essendon would tale Milera .....so again it depends on the actions of so many clubs and nothing is a lock

Evasiveness and agility along with decent/above average pace is way more important than genuine straight line pace imo.

Look at Robbie Gray, he isn't quick at all, but he is so evasive and hard to catch. Milera would definitely have quicker straight line speed than Gray too.

Straight line speed can be a touch overrated unless they actually play fast. ie Brodie Smith didn't actually test that well in the 20m sprint but he plays fast because he takes off and has the willingness to take the game on. Where as someone like Hendo tests really quick, but he doesn't play quick so you rarely see it or benefit from it.

Dangerfield is an example of the other end of the stick.

Excellent straight line - looks almost slow in traffic.

What would be the chances of Curnow staying at the Crows if we picked him?

He is a Vic boy, his brother plays for Carlton in his home state and we burnt his brother by delisting him prematurely.

I know you take best available but if Milera is there, we have to take him over Curnow imo. The difference between the 2 is so marginal its not worth the go home factor which imo would be a near certainty with Curnow.

Plus I don't rate Curnow's field kicking at all.
I agree it's very close call between Curnow and Milera .......honest? ...i have no idea which way we'll go but either of about 4 players will be great gets

The big question unanswered is #13????

I doubt half the draft class would be stupid enough to drink and then get behind the wheel when it's made VERY clear that there's zero tolerance for any alcohol in your system as a red P plater.

I'm all for second chances and people make mistakes, but it's a pretty bloody stupid and selfish one to make.
And what % would have been already dabbling with recreational drugs other than alcohol ....20%?

Similarly on my Ps I got blind drunk and got behind the wheel of the car, dropped off mates at their place and went home. Woke up the next day sick a sa dog, terrible headache and not remembering much. Got up shit scared trying to recollect what happened the night before. First thing I did was crawl my way to my car to see if there is any damage on it. Luckily there wasn't and it all ended up well but could have been MUCH MUCH worse. Never again did I get behind the wheel of the car even after 1 beer.

That certainly had no impact on my career nor would anyone label me as a irresponsible prick because of it. We all do stupid things at young age, then we mature. I am sick and tired of all the goody two shoes that are quick to judge others but never look at themselves in the mirror. We all have done stupid things in life, some of much even do so at older age but never get scrutinized for it. Curnow did a stupid, stupid thing but I have probably done worse things than he did and it didn't have negative impact on my career. If anything some of the stupid things that I did smartened me up. I would be very comfortable with our environment around the footy club being a great catalyst in getting Curnow on the straight and narrow. Like I said, he did what majority of 18 year olds have done at some point in life. The only difference is that he got caught and he just happens to have some sort of media scrutiny on him. Hell if I had the media scruity on me I never would have gotten a fair go.
Curnow's issue doesn't perturb me at all .....great post Stiffy!

I'll answer if you don't mind

He is top 10% in this draft for repeat sprints and in terms of speed that is the most important test as how many times does a player run flat out 20m completely fresh ( basically never unless playing deep forward )

On top of that he is the sharpest thinker in this draft in traffic so when you combine those 2 features he is plenty quick enough
I think the Shaun Burgoyne comparison is a pretty good one .......hands up who would want him

Look no question we'll get a beauty at #9 ......has anyone any gossip on the link of Burton to #13?

The issue is not about wether it's morally wrong, god we'd all have to be complete hypocrites to judge someone else's morales. In fact there would hardly be a person on the planet who didn't do something as bad or worse than this as a kid, I certainly did. The problem is the total and utter stupidity of it timing wise. I mean this kid has been working his guts out all his life aimed at one day, draft day 2015, and to do this 1 week before that day just makes you wonder about his ability to make sound decisions. Anyway I followed Shane Ray in the NFL pretty closely through the NFL draft process and he was even more stupid and although it has cost him a lot of money he seems to be back on track now and let's hope that happens for this lad. Any other year I would be hoping he would slip to us and we would profit from it but this year he just isn't a need so good luck to him but let's hope he still goes high.

No idea but that's got nothing to do with not only drinking but then making the decision to get behind the wheel and drive.

Again, I have no issues whatsoever if we pick him, done my best to not make any preference at this stage to avoid the potential 'disappointment' when we pick someone other than I was hoping.

Just think some are letting him off lightly for a very stupid mistake to make in this day and age. It should be a very small minority of young adults that are stupid enough to drink and then drive and he should be copping it because of this stupid decision - something he hopefully learns from.

Collins coach pumped him up bigtime on SEN
Of course ....as has the Sth Aust coach of his players .....it's normal

Also the PR of delisted players coming out in the press to get coverage and a 2nd chance .......who says the media hasn't an influence on these matters and coaching appointments?

Getting off lightly ......how often have you been shamed on the front page of every national paper ....plus would hate to have been him facing his parents

Nah, he hasn't got off lightly .....he's been clubbed

Whie straight line speed is not the be all and end all, it has its importance. Evasiveness doesn't break lines and create the sort of ball movement that makes forwards' lives easy. Robbie Gray is a much less effective footballer without Polec and White creating havoc. We have the good in traffic types - I think we really need the line breaking types.

Also, when you don't have the ball, you need to be able to catch the opposition. Evasiveness doens't help you do that.

In terms of line breaking ability, Smith is the prototype in our team. Now I have no idea what his straight line speed is like, but one thing he does have is the timing of how to hit a contest to be moving more quickly than everyone else at the other end of it - more "footy fast" than actual fast - one of cmndstab's hobby horses over the years. This is something I see in Bonner as well which is part of what makes me keen for us to reach for him at 13. I don't really see it in Milera (admittedly on the strength of about 5 minutes of highlights).

This does make me feel better about Milera, thanks.
That is my exact point. Like Smith, Milera is "footy fast" to use your term. Plus he has definitely shown he can break lines.

Hey guys, long time no post.

Just some info I've had for a while, Crows offered pick 9 and pick 13 to Brisbane for Schache and a later pick. Brisbane seriously considered it due to their academy commitments and it almost got done, but Brisbane reneged at the last possible moment. :(

Anyhow, I'm liking what I'm hearing about who we're interested in tomorrow :)

I said some are letting him off lightly = the opinion of some on here such as your own when you suggested the majority of young adults do the same thing.

I'd be lying if I said I hadn't stalked your profile a few times to see if you'd been around, dead sight during the trade period!

Miss the late round draft picks we've had in the past and the speculation of who we might be interested in along with a few helpful hints from some on here in the past.

Welcome back CC ......that sounds like what we would do ....but it also DEFINITELY confirms we're chasing a KPF

Been following the draftees ? ......who do you like

I guess we are really hoping for McKay ......although Weideman is not absolutely out of the picture either

See, proves my point that most young adults get into some form of trouble.......here you are stalking :p:p

Great point .....there's athletic speed, and footy speed .......I've seen quick players only run straight lines get caught, and slower players who weave and run laterally, or sidestep who opposition players just can't lay a hand on

Was Nobes buying Curnow drinks by chance? ;)

Welcome back CC - you have been missed.

That would have been a GREAT deal. Schache would have been a spectacular get. Shame it didn't come off, but kudos to the Crows for having a real crack. I like hearing that.

I hope we get the guy your hearing about. If you like it, I like it!
