Right. Well you clearly dont know how the bidding system works. All the picks before 44 which owned by Sydney/WBD/Port/Bris/Haw will dissipate once they are used to match a bid. Thats 10 picks before before 44 that will be used.

That means our pick will rise by 5 (10 picks lost through bid matches minus 5 bids made) if those above teams match bids before 44. 44 will not be sliding to 54
Mate they still have picks in the second round before 44 so it doesn't matter what you just said.......

Just spitballing...

Adelaide trade pick 1 to Essendon for 6+7 - They can get Thilthorpe at 6, Essendon will take McDonald.
Essendon also trade 8 to Collingwood for 14+16
Adelaide then trade 9 to Collingwood for their future 1st.

Ess - 1, 14, 16
Crows - 6, 7, 22, 23 + Pies 2021 1st
Pies - 8, 9 before Mcinnes

Perhaps there’s a belief that Adelaide might be able to get Thilthorpe at 7 if there’s an agreement Essendon doesn’t take him with 6 and he’s not linked to anyone else’s picks. Would make sense.
maybe
would be mighty hard to pass on Thilthorpe after securing McDonald though :P

What would be nice is Roos, Swans or Hawks take Thilthorpe & Cox/Reid, then we can line up Phillips at 6, and trade up for O'Driscoll (23 from Crows, 44, 2x F3's to Pies for 16 & F1)

couple of inside mids, a key forward and some KPP academy kids.
2x F1's next year.
Lovely

Yes, that's the point. Those players that get bid on will take out picks ahead of 44 thus moving it up the order.

Honestly? I would just rather stick with 3 picks inside the top 10. That in itself is an unbelievable hand when you think about it.

for what it's worth - ie not much - I do recall hearing Watson and Lyon interview Cox a month or so back, and I was struck by Watson's reaction afterwards. He seemed quite excited, and communicated that he believed that Cox wouldn't (or shouldn't) make it past Essendon's picks; and I remember looking him up in phantoms and thinking that was interesting given that, at that time, he was rated mid teens in many power rankings
I’ve had him top 10 for most of this year 😉

It kinda does... just a bit.

WB for instance when they match JUH. Sure, Adelaide's pick 1 become pick 2, but the Bulldogs will use up four or so picks before 44 matching that Adelaide bid meaning the net movement of 44 would be to 41.

For reference, this Gold Rocks guys is the same person posting this crap on the D & T board.

Essendon and crow's should think twice about bidding on reef as he doesn't want anything to do with essendon/crows or any other afl team after the interviews as apparently hes a real loyal type of kid who wants to repay the pies back for helping him with his injuries and developing him. I'm hearing from my afl team staff member that we're very interested in both essendon (NGA'S) Cody Brand and Josh Eyre with our second round pick or a future 2nd to replace some oldies as we love bidding on nga's hey Brisbane. There's also a handful of teams like the dees, roos, port, hawks, freo that are into cody and josh who most have second round picks before essendons pick 44.

For reference, Reef is an Essendon supporter.

He'd need some role that isn't defender.

Brand & Zerk will battle it out for FB
Reid into CHB (noting Eyre can play there, Stewart has gone back and i reckon Zerk is better suited there)
Cox added to that mix gives us 4-6 options for 2 positions. Seems overkill.

Tall winger would be interesting. Esp if he's got the boot on him to set sail for home from >50 out.

Langford & Cox patrolling the wings with Ridley/Reid/Francis intercepting & distributing out of defence.

The way I’m envisioning it working in my head is something like 2 of Hurley/Francis/Hooker/Ambrose/Zerk/Brand and then Ridley and Cox waxing as that floating 3rd tall peeling off and intercepting and causing match up problems because one of them will likely be playing on a smaller opponent.

I’m approaching Cox as if we’re getting a super boot distributor off a back flank, the bonus is he’s ruck height.

if we go future backline;

Redman Brand Francis
Ridley Reid Cox
?
Feels a little tall.

If it's a Mci

Hilarious thing is Tom Phillips was one of the Pies players who really helped him out. That trade period from the Pies is surly an eye opener...

the bonus is he’s ruck height.

199cm is small by ruck standards these days! 199cm is pretty much standard KPF / KPD height now.

The King & McKay brothers, Joe, Hipwood and Tom Lynch are all around 200cm.

Crazy to think Polly Farmer was 191cm, and Nick Reiwoldt 'only' 193cm. The land of the giants.

Well Francis would be the least mobile of that lot I'd think, the problem would be that Redman is our only ground level small, and as athletic as Ridley and Cox are, they probably couldn't play on a small.

I wouldn’t be taking Reid as well, but Ridley and Cox could in all likelihood hold their own against genuine smalls given their athletic profiles, it’s just not in their best interests to do that and wouldn’t maximise their skills.

You can throw Hind and Guelfi into the defensive mix. Guelfi's speed stats are quicker than you might think. He needs to improve defensively but we don't have many choices to put on good quick smalls like Cameron and that guy at Port with the funny name that is always injured...

Cox, Reid and Eyre/Brand seems like overkill to me.

Daniher is gone, Hooker is just about done, Hurley only a year or two left. BZT no guarantee to make it.

Leaving us with Bryan & Jones as untried talls.

Can easily see a need for 3 x talls, and given Cox running ability, he could play as a Blicavs type ultra-tall wingman, which we also definitely need.

Brand sounds a stopper-type, Eyre is a forward, Reid at CHB and Cox as a wingman / utility, plus Perkins.
